Background

The System accompanies Li Zi after her transmigration into a cultivation novel. It knows the original story and initially urges her to use that knowledge to survive and, if possible, save the Spirit Sword Sect. Li Zi instead considers fleeing to the Mortal World, where the System says gossip could supply it with energy and points 2.

At their first Sect gathering, the System spends points to unlock Mind Reading for Li Zi but apparently selects the wrong option. Rather than hearing other people’s thoughts, Li Zi’s thoughts and the System’s replies become audible to cultivators at the Golden Core Stage and above. The listeners keep this from her and begin acting on what they overhear 2 6.

Personality

The System eagerly hunts for scandal and often delivers revelations with theatrical excitement. Its gossip ranges from embarrassing relationships to crimes and threats to the Cultivation World 12 28 120. It also looks after Li Zi: it distracts her during difficult training, urges her to cultivate, and rebukes her when she considers leaving the consequences of a future invasion for Ran Zirou to solve 62 143 163.

Its confidence exceeds its knowledge at times. It admits that it is new to its job, misreads or incompletely explains information, and cannot always answer Li Zi’s questions immediately 2 169 177 180.

Abilities & Skills

Gossip and information retrieval

The System consults a book or files to investigate people, Spirit Beasts, places, and events 21 29 120.

• It exposes concealed histories and immediate dangers, including the Medicine Sect Master’s switched son and Ran Zirou’s planned spider ambush 28 29 109.
• It can follow Ran Zirou’s activities when Li Zi asks it to keep watch 58 111.
• Its information is not unrestricted: details may become available only after Li Zi reaches a location or encounters the people involved. Even then, the book may omit names or answers 208.
• The original novel is an imperfect guide. The System finds events that the book never covered and sometimes distinguishes a commonly accepted historical account from what actually happened 143 170 171 206.

Thought-hearing mode

The System’s mistaken Mind Reading activation allows nearby cultivators at Golden Core Stage or above to hear its conversations with Li Zi, including her thoughts. Hearing them depends on distance 2 6.

• Overheard warnings give others a chance to change course without telling Li Zi how they learned the information 10 16 131.
• Later, Li Zi can choose who hears her thoughts. In the Demon Realm, she uses the ability to influence the Snow Lion Beasts, then switches it so only Si Le can hear her 276 278.

Treasure and hazard guidance

The System’s information functions as a guide during expeditions 116 183.

• It identifies hidden Spirit Medicines and warns of dangerous beasts or traps in Secret Realms 116 183 184.
• In the Wasteland, its directions help Li Zi’s companions locate treasures while Spirit Beasts are distracted 192.
• It warns that entering the Immortal Forging Tower would trap the group inside 257 258.
• It cannot always produce information on demand; Li Zi worries when it cannot supply a Wasteland map before her journey 177.

Point exchanges

The System spends or saves points to obtain abilities for Li Zi 2 35.

• It initially cannot exchange for cultivation methods because Li Zi lacks enough points 8.
• It obtains the Seven-Orifice Exquisite Heart, enabling Li Zi to divide her attention between cultivation and other activities 35 39.
• Later, it exchanges for a divided consciousness that circulates Li Zi’s cultivation method while she attends to other things 251.

Relationships

• Li Zi — its host and constant conversation partner. The System supplies information, argues with her, and helps her pursue both survival and cultivation 2 35 143.
