Background and History

Ning Fengzhi brings his orphaned nephew Ning Wen into the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect because Wen’s father, Ning Tian, once saved his life. He regrets not doing more for Tian before his death and intends to give Wen a home. After discovering that he can hear a mysterious voice associated with Wen, Fengzhi hears its claims that his future decisions will betray Wen and bring about the sect’s decline. He does not accept those claims outright, but decides to investigate and act cautiously 1 2.

Wen’s awakening makes his protection an immediate priority. After confirming Wen’s level-twenty Innate Soul Power, Fengzhi orders the result concealed from outsiders and leads both Sect-Guarding Douluo on Wen’s first Soul Ring hunt. He later gives Wen a valuable Darkgolden Terrorclaw Bear External Soul Bone, strengthening Wen’s trust in him 8 9 15.

Fengzhi also changes his approach to his daughter Ning Rongrong’s upbringing. He hires Tang Yuehua to teach her etiquette, then abandons a plan to employ Yu Xiaogang as her theory teacher after hearing troubling claims about his instruction 9 23 26 32. When Wen sends him an Aromatic Silk Beauty capable of evolving the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, Fengzhi gives it—and an Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid—to Rongrong rather than using the opportunity to overcome his own Martial Soul’s limit 70 72.

Five years after Dugu Bo joins the sect, its three Sect-Guarding Douluo have substantially raised its standing. Fengzhi subsequently permits Wen, Rongrong, Dugu Yan, and Xiao Wu to go to Shrek, assigning Chen Xin and Gu Rong to protect them secretly while Dugu Bo guards the sect 75 77.

His treatment of Wen combines genuine care with an effort to earn the boy’s trust.
