Background / History

Xiao Wu grew up in the Great Star Dou Forest. After Spirit Hall killed her mother, she took human form and entered human society intending to grow strong enough to avenge her 39 41 57. At Notting Academy, she became Tang San’s sworn sister 38 39.

Ning Wen arrived at the academy claiming they had been promised to each other before birth. Xiao Wu initially denied knowing him. He supported his claim with knowledge of her identity and family and a pink scarf carrying her mother’s scent; the account of an arranged marriage was a deception he devised to win her trust 39 40 48. Xiao Wu could also hear thoughts associated with him. What she heard about a possible future sacrifice for Tang San—and about Tang Hao watching her—made her reconsider her safety and her bond with Tang San 39 41 42. She chose to leave the academy with Ning Wen and ended her sworn-sibling relationship with Tang San 43.

During their travels, Xiao Wu helped persuade Ning Wen to take the weakened Blue Silver Emperor, Ah Yin, out of Tang Hao’s hidden cave 53 55. At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, she claimed and consumed Lovesick Heartbreak Red. Its concealment of her Soul Beast aura removed an immediate danger of detection, while its other effects advanced her cultivation and evolved her Martial Soul 73 74. Five years later, she appeared alongside Ning Wen’s group as a five-ring Soul King 75 81.

Xiao Wu first appears at Notting Academy in a student uniform, with a long braid 39. Her transformed Martial Soul later gives her a sacred-looking aura 75.

Personality

Xiao Wu is affectionate and playful with Ning Wen, but she speaks firmly when making her own choices. She challenges Yu Xiaogang’s criticism, leaves Notting Academy without hesitation, and later insists on facing Dugu Yan before Dugu Yan can spar with Ning Wen 43 48 75. She is wary of threats to her Soul Beast identity, particularly Tang Hao and other Titled Douluo 43 48 60.

Her concern extends beyond her own safety. She asks whether humans and Soul Beasts can coexist without hunting one another, and asks Ning Wen to rescue Ah Yin after seeing the conditions in which she has been left 49 50 53 55.
