Geography
The Chaotic Star Sea is a vast oceanic cultivation region divided into the Inner Star Sea and Outer Star Sea. Its many islands and poor inter-island communication historically impeded complete political unification. 77 79 104
| Region / Location | Description |
|---|---|
| Inner Star Sea | Formerly ruled by the Heavenly Star Palace and considered largely peaceful for ten thousand years. Its islands include major ports where even Core Formation cultivators direct arriving ships. 79 133 |
| Outer Star Sea | Traditionally the domain of the Demon Race; it includes territories controlled by the Flood Dragon Clan and the Spiritual Turtle clans. 89 120 |
| Ten Thousand Zhang Sea | The Suanni Clan's ancestral territory and site of the Chaotic Star Sea's Sea Eye, whose spiritual energy is considered unmatched in the region. 117 187 |
| Spiritual Turtle Sea Domain | An Outer Star Sea territory divided among four Spiritual Turtle clans after Zhou Yi's consolidation. 120 |
| Earth Fire Island / Demon God Island | A volcanic spirit-vein island in the Spiritual Turtle Sea Domain. Centuries of development turned it into a major spiritual land and the center of Zhou Yi's power. 116 133 182 |
| Extreme Saint Island | The Wen Family's stronghold in the Inner Star Sea; it was destroyed amid Zhou Yi's conflict with the family. 137 |
| Chiming Island | Headquarters of the Chiming Sect, later the Chiming Hall of the Demon God Palace; it controls an ancient teleportation array to outer territories. 138 198 |
| Void Sky Hall | A secret land entered with a key, containing trials, vengeful spirits, and sought-after treasures such as the Void Sky Cauldron and Sky Mending Pill. 149 |
Inhabitants and Cultivation
Human Race
Human cultivators historically occupied the Inner Star Sea. The Heavenly Star Palace suppressed both the righteous and demonic paths, while independent sects, rogue cultivators, and merchant vessels operated across the islands. 74 104 139
- Core Formation cultivators are regarded as powerful in most of the Chaotic Star Sea, though they may serve merely as port personnel in the Inner Star Sea's major hubs. 133
- Rogue cultivators frequently compete and die over resources; disappearances of low-level cultivators often attract little attention. 77
- The cultivation system distinguishes Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, Nascent Soul, and Deity Transformation, dividing advancement into clearer stages than other known cultivation systems. 191 195
Demon Race
The Demon Race historically dominated the Outer Star Sea, led by powerful bloodline clans and long-lived great demons. 74 89
- The Suanni Clan, descendants of the Dragon Clan, ruled the Demon Race from the Ten Thousand Zhang Sea. 74 117
- The Flood Dragon Clan was one of the region's strongest forces and notably hostile toward human cultivators. 108
- The Spiritual Turtle Clan was considered a second-rate demon race despite possessing several eighth-level shapeshifted great demons. 121
- Demon cultivation relies on gradual accumulation of demonic energy and is generally slow; demon bodies and bloodlines provide substantial innate strength. 102 133
- Unlike human cultivators, demons generally require fire-attribute demon cores to produce Demonic Fire for alchemy and artifact crafting. 75
History
Dual Rule of the Star Palace and Suanni Clan
For ten thousand years, the Heavenly Star Palace dominated the Human Race and the Inner Star Sea, while the Suanni Clan reigned over the Outer Star Sea's Demon Race. The two powers formed the region's principal political order. 74 117
The Inner Star Sea remained comparatively stable under the Heavenly Star Palace, whereas the Outer Star Sea was divided among demon territories and clans. The Flood Dragon Clan, Spiritual Turtle clans, and other demon races held local dominions beneath Suanni influence. 79 89 120
The fall of a generation of Heavenly Star Palace's Twin Saints destabilized this order. Their deaths, caused when the aged Suanni King detonated his supreme treasure in an ambush, became the most significant event in the sea for centuries. 104
Sky Mirror Turmoil
Rumors that a Turtle Demon possessed a treasure connected to the Sky Mirror Hermit and a replica of the Void Sky Cauldron drove Nascent Soul cultivators throughout the Chaotic Star Sea into conflict. The Heavenly Star Palace's reward for information intensified the search through the Flood Dragon Sea Domain. 108
During this period, Zhou Yi rose in the Outer Star Sea. His Profound Yin Soul Gathering Banners and twelve Nascent Soul-level demon gods made his name known among both Human and Demon Race experts. 115 121
Rise of Zhou Yi and the Reverse Star Alliance
Zhou Yi unified the Spiritual Turtle Sea Domain, establishing control over Earth Fire Island and its surrounding clans. Though the domain itself was politically minor, his personal strength and demon-god forces elevated his reputation across the region. 120 121
In the Inner Star Sea, the righteous and demonic paths secretly formed the Reverse Star Alliance to overthrow the Heavenly Star Palace. The Chiming Sect joined the alliance under Zhou Yi's direction. 145
The alliance eventually killed the Twin Saints and destroyed the Heavenly Star Palace's long-standing rule. The Myriad Law Sect occupied the former palace and became the acknowledged overlord of the Inner Star Sea. 162 167
Demon King Era
After defeating rival Demon Kings at the Ten Thousand Demon Longevity Banquet, Zhou Yi was declared leader of the Chaotic Star Sea's demons by the old Suanni King, Xiao Yuan. 175
As the Baxia Demon King, Zhou Yi expanded his authority across both seas. He established the Myriad Treasures Pavilion to facilitate trade between humans and demons, gathering resources and strengthening his influence. 182
Demon God Palace Unification
Zhou Yi later sought to unite the entire Chaotic Star Sea under the Demon God Palace, intending to seize inheritances, ancient texts, and cultivation resources. The Suanni Clan offered submission and the Ten Thousand Zhang Sea. 187
The Ten Thousand Zhang Sea submitted, the Myriad Law Sect sealed its territory, and the Demon God Palace unified the Chaotic Star Sea. It became the sole regional power governing both the Human and Demon Races. 188
Political Powers
| Faction | Role in the Chaotic Star Sea |
|---|---|
| Heavenly Star Palace | Former ruler of the Human Race and Inner Star Sea for tens of thousands of years; destroyed by the Reverse Star Alliance. 74 167 |
| Suanni Clan | Former royal clan of the Outer Star Sea and rulers of the Demon Race from the Ten Thousand Zhang Sea; later submitted to the Demon God Palace. 117 187 |
| Flood Dragon Clan | Powerful Outer Star Sea dragon-blooded clan, second only to the Heavenly Star Palace and Suanni Clan in earlier eras. 108 |
| Reverse Star Alliance | Coalition of righteous and demonic Human Race factions that overthrew the Heavenly Star Palace. 145 167 |
| Myriad Law Sect | Successor power to the Heavenly Star Palace in the Inner Star Sea after the alliance's victory. 167 |
| Chiming Sect / Chiming Hall | A demonic sect established by Zhou Yi's Faceless Demon disguise; later reorganized as a Demon God Palace branch hall. 138 198 |
| Demon God Palace | The final unified authority over the Chaotic Star Sea, with branch halls for the Suanni, Flood Dragon, Chiming, and Myriad Laws factions. 188 198 |
Trade and Communication
- Message Jade Talismans transmit sound over roughly a thousand li but are single-use and vulnerable to interception by high-level cultivators. 94
- Ten Thousand Mile Talismans can communicate across far greater distances, but their forging method has been lost; surviving examples are controlled by major powers. 94
- Spirit Conchs are reusable communication magic treasures capable of transmitting messages over a thousand li. 133
- The Demon God Palace's Myriad Treasures Pavilion controls two ancient teleportation arrays leading to Great Jin and Southern Heaven, making the Chaotic Star Sea a trade hub with outside domains. 188
- High-grade pills, talismans, and magic treasures sold through the Myriad Treasures Pavilion were refined by Zhou Yi. 184
Notable Characteristics
- The Chaotic Star Sea possesses traces of Innate Spiritual Items, though Zhou Yi considers their karmic burden dangerous. 130
- Its artifact-crafting tradition emphasizes rare materials and naturally formed special abilities, rather than the restraint-focused methods used elsewhere. 191
- Its method of splitting the Nine-Layered Heavenly Tribulation into Core Formation and Nascent Soul stages lowers the threshold and weakens the eventual tribulation. 195
- Natural spatial rifts connected to the Spirit Realm have appeared in the Chaotic Star Sea; some are regarded as disasters, such as ghost fog linked to entrances to the Netherworld. 264 290
