A month later.

At the Yamanaka flower shop.

Today's tea gathering had grown considerably.

When Tsunade pushed open the door, Uchiha Mikoto followed her in.

The girl had changed into dark blue casual clothes and tied her long hair in a neat ponytail. She looked much more spirited.

A month of training was already showing results. There was a crisp confidence in her expression.

But faced with a roomful of women much older than she was, she was visibly nervous.

Her back was ramrod straight, and her fingers twisted together.

"Come on, let me introduce you."

Tsunade gave Mikoto a hearty pat on the back, nudging her half a step forward.

"My student, Uchiha Mikoto."

The room fell quiet for a moment.

Uchiha.

Everyone present knew the weight that name carried.

Tsunade of the Senju had taken an Uchiha as her student.

The news had already spread through the clan circles.

But seeing Mikoto in person was different.

Yamanaka Sora reacted first, rising with a smile to ease the tension.

"Miss Mikoto, Lady Tsunade has told us about you! Come in and have a seat."

Lola Akimichi waved warmly too.

"Come over here. Your teacher talks about you all the time. She says you train so hard."

Ria Nara smiled and nodded. "No need to be nervous. We're just getting together today. It's very casual."

Mikoto gave a small bow. "It's a pleasure to meet you all. Sorry to impose."

Her manner was proper, her courtesy impeccable.

Tsunade cast her an approving glance. Good. She's making her teacher proud.

But the main event was still to come.

Footsteps sounded outside the door again.

Yuri Inuzuka strode in, bringing a brisk gust of energy with her.

She swept her gaze around the room, spotted Tsunade, and grinned.

"I'm not late, am I?"

"Just in time." Tsunade tipped her chin toward the room. "Have a seat."

Yuri Inuzuka sat down beside Tsunade. Next to

her crouched a large, lively Ninja Hound.

It was Fuga.

His coat gleamed, and his muscles were full and strong.

He looked nothing like the sickly hound he had been a month ago.

"Fuga's recovered nicely," Tsunade remarked.

Yuri Inuzuka stroked Fuga's head, unable to hide the pride in her voice.

"He can eat, run, and fight. He's fiercer than he was before he got sick."

"The boys in the clan wanted to spar with him. Even three against one wasn't enough."

"No surprise. After going hungry that long, he had plenty of frustration to let out."

As the two of them joked, the last guest arrived.

Hoshina Hyuga.

She wore elegant Hyuga clan robes. Her cheeks were rosy, and her figure had recovered so well that no trace of childbirth remained.

An attendant carrying a baby followed her.

The moment she entered, her eyes found Tsunade.

"Tsunade!"

She couldn't keep the excitement from her voice.

"Hey, Lady Hoshina." Tsunade rose and took a couple of steps toward her. "How are you feeling?"

"Wonderful!"

Hoshina Hyuga hurried over and took Tsunade's hand.

"Hiumi is healthy too. She sleeps beautifully every day, and what an appetite she has!"

She paused, then lowered her voice.

"Sōwa almost wouldn't let me come out today. He said I'd only just finished my first month after giving birth and shouldn't tire myself out. I told him you invited me, and he shut right up."

Tsunade burst out laughing.

"So the head of the Hyuga clan can't get his way, but I can?"

"Of course." Hoshina Hyuga nodded as though it were obvious.

The other women laughed too.

The atmosphere warmed at once.

Tsunade looked around.

Yamanaka Sora. Ria Nara. Lola Akimichi. Yuri Inuzuka. Hoshina Hyuga. Uchiha Mikoto.

And Tsunade herself.

Ino–Shika–Cho. Inuzuka. Hyuga. Uchiha. Senju.

Seven people from six major clans.

They represented a good half of Konoha's ninja clans.

Add the Aburame, and Konoha's core clans would all be accounted for.

Tsunade held her teacup, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

The conversation flowed easily.

Put women together, and there was never a shortage of things to talk about.

They went from raising children to staying healthy, from recent clan gossip to discounts on ninja tools.

Although it was Hoshina Hyuga's and Yuri Inuzuka's first time there, Tsunade kept the conversation moving, and they soon grew comfortable with the others.

Hoshina was gentle and soft-spoken. She and Ria Nara got along especially well.

Yuri was straightforward and cheerful, and she hit it off with Lola Akimichi.

Their discussion of meat dishes nearly had them pounding the table.

Mikoto sat beside Tsunade. She said little, but listened attentively.

When someone occasionally asked how her training was going, she gave a brief answer.

"Master wakes me at four every morning to run. After that, I throw a hundred punches."

"...And after the hundred punches?" Yamanaka Sora asked curiously.

"I run another lap."

"..."

Everyone turned to Tsunade.

Tsunade paused with her tea halfway to her lips and blinked innocently. "It's just basic physical conditioning. Perfectly normal."

For now, she hadn't taught Mikoto Medical Ninjutsu. Instead, she was building up the girl's body.

Without a strong physique, any kind of training was an uphill battle.

She had even roped her younger brother Nawaki into training with them.

The women's expressions shifted from curiosity to sympathy.

Tsunade cleared her throat. "All right, all right. Enough about that."

She set down her teacup and looked around.

The time was right.

"Everyone."

Tsunade's tone shifted naturally.

"Besides catching up, I brought you all together today because there's an idea I'd like to discuss."

The room quieted, and all eyes turned to her.

"You've all seen what's happened lately."

Tsunade leaned against a cushion, looking relaxed, but her words carried weight.

"When Hoshina had trouble giving birth, things might have turned out very differently if I hadn't happened to be there."

Hoshina Hyuga's expression changed, and her hand went instinctively to her abdomen.

"And Yuri's Fuga. He went so long without anyone able to help him. A few more days, and he wouldn't have made it."

Yuri Inuzuka was silent for a moment, then nodded.

"And the three of you."

Tsunade looked toward the women of Ino–Shika–Cho.

"You've lived with problems left over from childbirth for years. Who ever took care of those?"

The three exchanged glances and smiled bitterly.

It was true.

In the ninja world, the men went to the front lines to fight and kill, and won all the glory.

Women held their homes together behind the lines. When childbirth left them injured, who looked after them?

Their clans' medical ninja?

Those ninja treated wounded fighters.

Back pain after childbirth, depleted strength and blood—what clan had someone specifically responsible for that?

None.

They endured it, made do, and carried on.

"So I've come up with something." Tsunade raised a finger.

"Let's form a mutual aid association."

"A mutual aid association?" Yuri Inuzuka raised an eyebrow.

"Right. Just us."

Tsunade gestured around the room.

"A women's mutual aid association. If something happens in one of our families—a difficult birth, a serious illness, or any other hardship—the rest of us help however we can."

"And not just with medical care."

"Connections, resources, information—anything we can share, we share."

"Put simply: when one of us needs help, the rest come through."

Yamanaka Sora was the first to catch on. "Like... an alliance?"

"Nothing that formal." Tsunade waved a hand. "Just women looking out for one another. We get together when we can and help when someone needs it."

She looked at Hoshina Hyuga.

"Hoshina, your clan has the best diagrams of the chakra network, and you're unmatched at diagnosis."

"If someone's child has a problem, we could ask your people to take a look."

Then she turned to Yuri Inuzuka.

"Yuri, the Inuzuka clan's hounds can sniff out rare medicinal herbs."

She looked at the others.

"And the three Ino–Shika–Cho clans speak for themselves. Intelligence, medicinal herbs, logistics—you're the best at all of it."

"As for me."

Tsunade pointed at herself.

"Leave the medical side to me."

The room was quiet for a few seconds.

Then Hoshina Hyuga spoke first.

"I'm in."

Her voice was soft, but her tone was firm.

"If we'd had an association like this then, I wouldn't have had to wait until the very last moment to find Tsunade."

She glanced at the attendant holding Hiumi.

"Hiumi and I are living proof of why we need it."

Yuri Inuzuka folded her arms and thought for a moment, then nodded decisively.

"All right. I'm in!"

Yamanaka Sora raised her hand with a smile. "Count me in."

Lola Akimichi slapped her knee. "Do I even need to think about it? Of course I'm joining!"

Ria Nara smiled faintly. "No objections here."

Finally, every gaze fell on Mikoto.

The girl blinked, then said earnestly, "I... I'm only a student. What could I do to help?"

Tsunade smacked her on the head.

"You're my student. What's mine is yours. Stop arguing and raise your hand."

Mikoto obediently raised her hand.

Tsunade looked around the room.

Six hands shot up in unison.

Satisfied, Tsunade slapped the table.

"Right. The Konoha Women's Mutual Aid Association is officially founded today."

"President—me!"

"Raise your hand if you object."

No one raised a hand.

Even Yuri Inuzuka gave a snort.

"Who else would it be?"

Tsunade picked up her teacup.

"Then let's toast our association with tea!"

Six teacups clinked together with a crisp ring.

After the meeting,

Tsunade walked home with Mikoto.

Golden evening light fell across the street, stretching their shadows long.

Walking half a step behind, Mikoto suddenly spoke.

"Master."

"Hmm?"

"You didn't bring everyone together today... just so we could help each other, did you?"

Tsunade kept walking and glanced over at her.

The thirteen-year-old girl's dark eyes were clear and keen.

Tsunade smiled.

"What do you think?"

Mikoto thought for a moment, then said earnestly, "I think... you're playing a much bigger game."

Tsunade turned back toward the road ahead.

The setting sun painted the roof of the Senju residence a warm red.

"Mikoto."

"Yes?"

"Remember everyone who was there today."

Tsunade's voice was mild.

"One day, you'll realize that the power to truly change this village isn't on the battlefield."

Mikoto didn't fully understand.

But she remembered.

Tsunade was already planning her next move.

The association was only a shell.

Behind those women stood the political clout of Konoha's entire ninja clans.

Hyuga, Inuzuka, Ino–Shika–Cho, Uchiha, and Senju.

She had only just woven the first layer of that web.

But before that...

Tsunade stretched.

There was something else she needed to settle.

Her eyes grew bright with anticipation.

She could already feel it.

Her Yin Seal was almost complete!
