Kumi is a pregnant captive when Lu Zeming frees her from a bandit stronghold. She had intended to travel to Kusagakure, but chooses to join his planned settlement after seeing his resolve. Her late husband had chosen Karin for their child if she was a girl 7.

Lu entrusts Kumi with the settlement’s daily management, and she later takes charge while he travels to Kusagakure. She teaches literacy, organizes housing and refugee resettlement, oversees supplies, and helps develop Flower Village’s trade 8 9 24 34 45.

Kumi gives birth to Karin after a difficult labor. She recovers fully within a week and returns to work, soon warning Lu that food supplies cannot keep pace with the arriving refugees 39 44.
