History

Yulong had led the Mind-Listening Clan for more than a decade when he met Lu Zeming. He arrived with Yuka’s parents and Haruki, who expected to bring Yuka home. After witnessing Lu rout a government force, Yulong instead proposed bringing the entire clan under Lu’s leadership. He judged that Lu’s strength could protect them as the Land of Grass grew more unstable 28 33.

Lu would accept the clan’s members only if they became Flower Village citizens: they had to establish separate households, divide clan property, and follow village law rather than clan rules. Yulong offered property, secret techniques, and even his position before agreeing to those terms after a sleepless night. He then sent for the rest of the clan 33.

More than 120 clan members arrived, but Yulong’s younger brother, Listening Yuhu, and several elders opposed the agreement. When Yuhu’s faction plotted to kill Lu, Yulong rallied younger clan members who stood to benefit from the reforms and confronted the conspirators. The brothers fought; Yuhu died after turning his own kunai on himself rather than killing Yulong 34 35 36.

Two days later, Yulong reported that the households and property had been separated. He accepted that the clan’s ninja would train under Flower Village rather than answer to him. Lu’s encouragement to keep ancestral rites and a genealogy reassured him that the family could retain its ties despite losing its independent authority 36.

Abilities & Responsibilities

• Ninja rank: Yulong is one of the Mind-Listening Clan’s two Jonin when its members arrive in Flower Village 34.
• Settlement work: He organizes groups to clear land and plant crops, and Lu later assigns him to coordinate the village’s new industry departments 34 43.
• Emergency response: He helps organize an evacuation when villagers mistake Ghost Lantern Vine for an attacking monster. Lu later gives him the village’s emergency drill manual 38 39.
• Village defense: During Lu’s seclusion, Yulong is put in charge of defenses, with orders to double patrols, extend the perimeter, and report any sign of Orochimaru rather than fight him 50.

Personality

Yulong is pragmatic about the clan’s survival. He changes his plans after seeing Lu’s strength, then accepts reforms that cost him authority because he believes joining Flower Village offers his people a future 28 33 36. His commitment does not make the loss of his brother easy: he grieves Yuhu’s death and later seeks a way to preserve the clan’s family traditions 36.

Relationships

• Listening Yuhu — His younger brother and fellow Jonin. Their dispute over joining Flower Village ends in a fatal duel; Yulong mourns him 34 36.
• Lu Zeming — Flower Village’s chief. Yulong accepts Lu’s conditions for the clan, takes on village duties, and remains loyal after the conflict with Yuhu 33 36 43 50.
