Chapters 51–75 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 51Domain Expansion

Mo Bai used Domain Expansion to empower his Shikigami against the president of the Remnant Star Society, revealing a Fusion Beast that could restrain and batter him. As the president attacked Mo Bai from behind, a second Fusion Beast emerged from the shadows and caught his arm.

  • Mo Bai’s domain thickened the shadows, allowing Tengshe and the Divine Dogs to attack the president, though they barely harmed his durable body.
  • The president smashed the Divine Dogs and charged Mo Bai, but Tengshe dissolved into shadow before his staff could hit it.
  • Mo Bai summoned a Fusion Beast made from the Divine Dogs, Nue, and Great Serpent, and it struck the president with lightning-charged blows.
  • The president appeared behind Mo Bai and attacked, but a second Fusion Beast reached from the shadows and seized his arm.

Ch. 52No Great Ambitions

Mo Bai defeated the President of the Remnant Star Society inside his domain and refused the President’s offer to recruit him. After returning to reality with his Cursed Technique burned out, Mo Bai encountered the Rover, who had rushed to check on him.

  • Mo Bai captured the President in his domain, learned that the New Federation also had influence at Star Torch Academy, and rejected the offer to join the Remnant Star Society.
  • Mo Bai explained that he had no grand ambitions and did not want to anger a friend, then crushed the President and his two bodies with the Fusion Beasts.
  • Mo Bai dispelled his domain, found the captured Remnant Star Society mole nearby, and noted that his Cursed Technique had burned out.
  • The Rover arrived as Mo Bai prepared to defend himself, and Mo Bai told her that he had won.

Ch. 53A Moldy Good Life

Mo Bai handed a Remnant Star Society mole over to the Academy and went with Rover and Lynae to the Infirmary for a checkup. Rover arranged to take charge of Mo Bai’s afternoon classes so she could train him against the danger posed by the society.

  • Rover warned Mo Bai about the Remnant Star Society, and he told her he had rejected its President’s offer to join.
  • Mo Bai returned to the Academy with Rover and released the captured mole for a teacher to take into custody.
  • Lynae joined Mo Bai and Rover at the Infirmary, where Lu Hess and N.A.N.A. checked Mo Bai and Lynae after the Voidmatter Magnetic Storm.
  • Rover asked Lu Hess to arrange for her to teach Mo Bai’s afternoon classes so she could train him herself.
  • Mo Bai realized Rover’s plan meant special training rather than sightseeing and worried about facing her in another fight.

Ch. 54Starting Now

Mo Bai arranged to borrow Moqu’s Blackstone Weapons for daily training with Rover, then met her at a scenic spot the next afternoon. Before their sparring, Rover asked to watch Mo Bai tame a Shikigami, and he began the summoning.

  • Mo Bai asked Moqu to lend him Blackstone Weapons, and Moqu agreed in exchange for Mo Bai reviewing his upcoming film.
  • Mo Bai tried the Academy’s new canned food and found its combination of flavors disgusting, but forced himself to finish it.
  • The next afternoon, Mo Bai collected the weapons from Moqu and rode his Motorcycle to meet Rover.
  • Rover greeted Mo Bai with Abu and explained that she wanted to watch him tame a Shikigami before they trained.
  • Mo Bai formed a hand sign, and the shadow on the ground took the shape of an elephant’s head.

Ch. 55Rules of Subjugation

Mo Bai subjugated Max Elephant, Rabbit Escape, and Piercing Ox while Rover trained his close-combat skills. After defeating Piercing Ox head-on with raw Cursed Energy, he prepared to continue subjugating the remaining Shikigami.

  • Mo Bai used Great Serpent to restrain Max Elephant, then defeated it with Animal-Form Fist and completed its subjugation.
  • Mo Bai told Rover and Abu that he could subjugate every remaining Shikigami except the last one, and Rover assigned him to subjugate the rest before fighting her.
  • Rover corrected Mo Bai’s striking technique and offered to ask an old friend to train him someday.
  • Mo Bai identified and defeated the original among Rabbit Escape’s endless copies, completing its subjugation.
  • Mo Bai faced Piercing Ox’s straight-line charge and, after reinforcing his body with Cursed Energy, lifted and slammed it to complete its subjugation.

Ch. 56Binding Vow

After subduing the deer and tiger, Mo Bai sparred with Rover using a Binding Vow that strengthened his Fused Shikigami at the cost of limiting how many he could summon. Their training ended when Rover heard someone calling for help.

  • Mo Bai reflected on the Shikigami he had subdued and credited his plentiful Cursed Energy to the Goddess.
  • Rover healed Mo Bai, then challenged him to another round of training with Blood Pact.
  • Mo Bai summoned Fei and Hun to attack Rover, using their speed and strength to keep her occupied.
  • Mo Bai explained that his Binding Vow let him summon fewer Fused Shikigami in exchange for making them stronger.
  • Rover blocked the Shikigami and destroyed the Swift Blades Mo Bai released from the shadows.
  • Rover heard a distant cry for help and stopped their training to investigate.

Ch. 57Good and Evil in Human Nature

Rover and Mo Bai responded to a truck driver being attacked by Drifters, and Rover asked Mo Bai to judge the robbers for himself. The chapter ended with Mo Bai saying they deserved to die.

  • Mo Bai followed Rover toward cries for help and wondered how she would respond to ordinary people’s wrongdoing.
  • Drifters stopped a cargo truck and threatened to kill its driver for refusing to hand over academy supplies.
  • Mo Bai summoned his Divine Dogs, which stopped the robbers from attacking the driver.
  • Rover and Mo Bai arrived, Rover treated the driver and sent him somewhere safe, then asked Mo Bai what he thought of the Drifters.
  • Mo Bai said the robbers deserved to die.

Ch. 58Twisted

  • Mo Bai said the Drifter leader deserved to die, frightening the leader and his men into dropping their masks and promising to stop being Drifters.
  • Rover drew the Blood Pact and warned the Drifters that the Deep Space Union would question them before she and Mo Bai walked toward the Academy.
  • Rover showed Mo Bai the interrogation report confirming the Drifters had stolen cargo but never killed anyone, and Mo Bai admitted he might have judged them too quickly.
  • Rover told Mo Bai not to be so quick to kill, and Mo Bai realized he had become unusually ready to kill after arriving in this world.
  • Mo Bai promised Rover he would work on his readiness to kill, and Rover said she believed in him.

Ch. 59Shadows and Light

Mo Bai reflected on his past and his bond with Mo Hei, then considered how to grow stronger and learn Reverse Cursed Technique. After Mo Hei and Round Deer helped ease his gloom and fatigue, members of the Remnant Star Society approached him.

  • Mo Bai walked back to the Academy alone and talked with Mo Hei about how they had changed since arriving in Solaris.
  • Mo Hei created warm lights to comfort Mo Bai, and they discussed their old memories and the Goddess who had given Mo Bai his Cursed Technique.
  • Mo Bai learned that Mo Hei knew only the reversed Ten Shadows Technique and had no memory of the Goddess.
  • Mo Bai summoned Round Deer, whose Positive Energy healed his fatigue, and considered learning Reverse Cursed Technique from it and Mo Hei.
  • Mo Hei retreated into the shadows, and Mo Bai spotted red-clad members of the Remnant Star Society approaching.

Ch. 60Thousand Faces and Hundred Forms, Playing with the World

  • The President spoke through a new persona, and Mo Bai summoned Max Elephant, Great Serpent, and Nue to trap and incapacitate the Remnant Star Society members.
  • The President revealed that she had come to test Mo Bai and urged him to examine the fallen members as examples of the Society’s work.
  • Mo Bai found that the members showed no real emotions and seemed to follow orders mechanically after being altered.
  • Mo Bai rejected the President’s claim that members joined willingly, citing Rover’s account of the Society’s atrocities.
  • Mo Bai had Great Serpent swallow and destroy the fallen members, and the President withdrew after noting his reaction.

Ch. 61Starry Sky and a Young Woman

After a difficult day, Mo Bai walked beneath the underground stars and reflected on the people he had overlooked. Back at Star Torch Academy, he found Professor Mornye troubled by a mole in the Research Institute and the approaching Day-Switching Ceremony, and approached her to discuss something important.

  • Mo Bai walked toward Star Torch Academy beneath the stars and thought about how he had failed to appreciate his friends, including Mo Hei.
  • Mo Bai read messages from Lynae, Moqu, and Rover, replying to Moqu that the Swift Blades were of poor quality.
  • Mo Bai concluded that the Academy's suspicions that he was a mole had mostly been cleared and headed for the dormitory.
  • Mo Bai overheard Professor Mornye worrying about a mole in the Research Institute and the upcoming Day-Switching Ceremony.
  • Mo Bai said Rover was there to get Mornye's attention, then told her he had come to discuss something important.

Ch. 62The Day-Switching Ceremony and the Mole

Mornye told Mo Bai that the device taken from the Remnant Star Society was made by Verlaine, but she lacked conclusive evidence against him. Mo Bai agreed to investigate Verlaine and the Academy’s mole before the Day-Switching Ceremony, with Mornye offering him a reward if he succeeded.

  • Mornye took Mo Bai to the rooftop and asked why Lynae had told him to keep the device secret; Mo Bai explained that he suspected she knew Rover.
  • Mornye said the device’s construction marks identified Verlaine as its maker, but she had no conclusive evidence against him.
  • Mo Bai volunteered to investigate Verlaine, citing his friendship with Rover and his grudge against the Remnant Star Society.
  • Mornye agreed to share what she knew about Verlaine and the Remnant Star Society and asked Mo Bai to find evidence before the Day-Switching Ceremony.
  • Mornye offered Mo Bai a reward if he succeeded, and he accepted.

Ch. 63The New Federation's Covert Operation

Mo Bai investigated Verlaine’s suspected role in a plot against Star Torch Academy’s Day-Switching Ceremony while keeping up with classes and training. He stole the encrypted data from Verlaine’s computer, killed a New Federation operative who tried to recruit him, and left the evidence for Mornye.

  • Mo Bai found that Star Torch Academy housed spies from the Remnant Star Society, the New Federation, and Roy drifters.
  • Rover noticed Mo Bai’s exhaustion during training, invited him to observe the Day-Switching Ceremony, and urged him to rest.
  • Mo Bai overheard Verlaine mention an accomplice and decided to copy the data from Verlaine’s computer using a modified Tacet Disc.
  • A hidden New Federation operative offered Mo Bai power in Solaris, then threatened to join forces with the Remnant Star Society when Mo Bai refused.
  • Mo Bai used Nue to kill the operative, took the copied data, and left to send it to Mornye over an encrypted channel.

Ch. 64The Death of Verlaine

Mo Bai helped Professor Mornye expose Verlaine as a Remnant Star Society mole, but Verlaine tried to implicate Mo Bai before the Academy. After Mornye defended him, Verlaine attacked Mo Bai, who shot him dead and left the conflict at Star Torch Academy unresolved.

  • Mornye sent Mo Bai the evidence against Verlaine and asked him to report Verlaine in person.
  • Mo Bai presented the evidence to the Star Torch Academy professors, and Verlaine accused him of breaking into his office and stealing files.
  • Mornye admitted she had instructed Mo Bai to investigate Verlaine, and the professors accepted her account.
  • Mo Bai and Mornye left the hearing, and she asked whether Verlaine's removal would help the Day-Switching Ceremony with Rover.
  • Verlaine broke free, drew a gun, and charged at Mo Bai, who let himself be shot before taking the gun and shooting Verlaine dead.

Ch. 65Mornye's Resolve

After recovering from his gunshot wound, Mo Bai refused Mornye’s request to investigate another device among the Roy and urged her to take responsibility for helping Rover. Mornye accepted his challenge and left the Infirmary with renewed resolve.

  • The Academy ruled that Mo Bai had killed Verlaine in self-defense, and Round Deer healed Mo Bai’s gunshot wound in Lu Hesse’s Infirmary.
  • Mornye told Mo Bai that a signal resembling Verlaine’s device had appeared among the Roy and asked him to investigate it.
  • Mo Bai refused, saying he had already achieved his goal of eliminating Verlaine and that Mornye could help share Rover’s burden herself.
  • Mo Bai told Lu Hesse that Mornye should not miss her chance to help Rover, then left the Infirmary.
  • Mornye reflected on Mo Bai’s words, resolved to prove herself, and left the Infirmary.

Ch. 66The Prelude Crumbles

Mo Bai spoke with Lynae, then confronted the Remnant Star Society’s President, who contacted him through a rabbit. The President acknowledged that Mo Bai’s Jade Rabbits had disabled the Society’s Voidmatter Devices in the Floating Light Forest, while remaining suspicious that Mo Bai still had hidden secrets.

  • Mo Bai learned that Mornye and Rover had left the Academy, then declined Lynae’s invitation to race because Rover had grounded her and he was keeping a low profile.
  • Mo Bai sprang at a rabbit that approached him, then halted his attack when it spoke in the Remnant Star Society President’s voice.
  • The President told Mo Bai that the Society had identified most of his abilities but still believed he had undiscovered secrets.
  • The President remarked that Mo Bai’s Jade Rabbits had disrupted the Society’s plans by purifying Void Matter frequencies in the Floating Light Forest.
  • Mo Bai dismissed the distant Shikigami after the Jade Rabbits had disabled the hidden Voidmatter Devices, then challenged the rabbit beside him with a look.

Ch. 67Furnace Core Mech Abomination

Mo Bai realized the Remnant Star Society had used a red portal to snatch something from the Tunneler’s Furnace Core and transported him to the desert to face the Voidworm. The stolen Furnace Core Mech Abomination fell from the sky and attacked the Voidworm, leaving Mo Bai to confront the threat to the Tunneler’s heart.

  • The President taunted Mo Bai, and Jade Rabbit vanished after she snapped her fingers.
  • Mo Bai spotted a red portal briefly opening beside the Tunneler’s Furnace Core and suspected the Remnant Star Society had taken something through it.
  • Rover urgently warned Mo Bai to get out, but a red portal transported him to the desert before the call could finish.
  • The portal vanished, and the Voidworm emerged from the sand to attack Mo Bai.
  • A Furnace Core Mech Abomination fell from the sky and struck the Voidworm, revealing what the Remnant Star Society had taken from the Furnace Core.

Ch. 68Ten Shadows Was More Than Just for Show

Mo Bai fought the Furnace Core Mech Abomination after it absorbed a Voidworm and attacked him. He broke its weapon and countered its fireballs before summoning his strongest Shikigami, the Ultimate Chimera Beast.

  • The Furnace Core Mech Abomination absorbed the Voidworm and charged at Mo Bai, who used Max Elephant to halt its advance.
  • Mo Bai decided to fight the giant himself rather than wait for Rover, and he blocked its flaming sickle with Wolf Claw.
  • Mo Bai used a forceful kick to throw the creature off balance, then snapped its sickle blade and extinguished its fireballs with Max Elephant's water ability.
  • Mo Bai summoned the Ultimate Chimera Beast, fused from Tiger Funeral, Round Deer, Great Serpent, Nue, and the Divine Dogs.

Ch. 69Dessert

Mo Bai defeated the Furnace Core Mech Abomination with Etu, but the Shikigami’s heavy Cursed Energy cost left him vulnerable to a portal that abducted him. He arrived in a desolate part of Sonoro and faced a scarred man in a red coat, sent by the President to push him to his limit.

  • Mo Bai summoned Etu, who battered the Furnace Core Mech Abomination, endured its fireballs, and punched through its skull before Mo Bai recalled him.
  • Communications briefly returned as the Void Matter Energy dissipated, and the Rover arrived, dusty and wounded.
  • A portal pulled Mo Bai away despite his attempt to escape through the shadows, and he exchanged a look with the shocked Rover as he vanished.
  • Mo Bai found himself in a desolate landscape of dead trees and purple-black terrain, where he could still control the shadows.
  • A scarred man in a red coat introduced himself as the President’s chosen opponent, and Mo Bai prepared to fight as shadows roiled beneath him.

Ch. 70Scar

Mo Bai fought Scar, a powerful Remnant Star Society member with spatial abilities, and struggled to conserve his dwindling Cursed Energy. Scar sought to break Mo Bai’s spirit, while Mo Bai resolved to land a Black Flash to survive.

  • Scar attacked Mo Bai with explosive playing cards, but Mo Bai used Rabbit Escape to shield himself and hide.
  • Mo Bai used a shadow-made copy and Max Elephant’s water to bind Scar, but Scar broke free and overwhelmed him with his strength.
  • Mo Bai used Nue’s electromagnetic force to guide Swift Blades at Scar, then was hurled through trees by Scar’s counterattack.
  • Mo Bai healed himself with Reverse Cursed Technique, leaving his Cursed Energy nearly depleted, and decided he needed to land a Black Flash.
  • Scar explained that he enjoyed destroying individuals by breaking their spirits, and the two introduced themselves as Scar and Mo Bai before facing off.

Ch. 71Black Flash

Mo Bai fought Scar with martial arts while searching for the elusive feeling needed to unleash Black Flash. He finally landed one as Scar’s kick nearly hit him, recovered some Cursed Energy, and challenged Scar to continue.

  • Mo Bai and Scar traded punches, with Scar overpowering Mo Bai despite the strange sensation he felt when their fists collided.
  • Scar tricked Mo Bai with an exploding playing card, then lost interest and surged forward with demonic energy.
  • Mo Bai kept searching for the feeling behind Black Flash as Scar vanished and launched a powerful kick at him.
  • Mo Bai struck Scar’s leg with Black Flash, knocking it down and matching the speed of Scar’s attack.
  • Mo Bai felt his Cursed Energy recover and invited Scar to begin round two.

Ch. 72Shadows and Demons

Mo Bai used shadows and shikigami to keep Scar guessing, while Scar analyzed Mo Bai’s improved abilities and prepared to unleash his full strength. As Scar transformed into a demonlike form, Mo Bai activated Domain Expansion.

  • Scar attacked Mo Bai, who evaded through the shadows and used decoys and a surprise claw strike to counter him.
  • Scar blasted Mo Bai with exploding cards and assessed his shadow movement, summons, and recovery.
  • Scar and Mo Bai resumed their fight, and Mo Bai summoned Yamata no Orochi to shield him and stall Scar while he approached through the shadows.
  • Scar recognized Mo Bai’s tactics and declared that he would use his full strength, then began transforming into a demonlike creature.
  • Mo Bai clasped his hands and activated Domain Expansion.

Ch. 73Disgust

Mo Bai remembered how his grandfather’s death taught him to value ordinary lives and reject treating life like a game. In the Chimera Shadow Garden, he recognized Scar as a Society Overseer of the Remnant Star Society and declared his disgust for the organization.

  • Mo Bai recalled that he had shown no grief when his grandfather died because he had not yet grasped that the loss was real.
  • Mo Bai realized that his grandfather’s ordinary life had left a lasting mark on him, and he began to treasure life.
  • Mo Bai expanded Chimera Shadow Garden as Scar grew larger, enveloping his enemy.
  • Mo Bai remembered Rover’s description of a Society Overseer and recognized the ram-horned demon as one.
  • Mo Bai thought of the President’s subordinates and said that everyone in the Remnant Star Society disgusted him.

Ch. 74Chimera Shadow Garden

Mo Bai expanded Chimera Shadow Garden against Scar and used its empowered shadows and fused Yamata no Orochi to attack him. As the two prepared to fight all out, they sensed someone outside disrupting the domain.

  • Mo Bai expanded Chimera Shadow Garden, and Scar dismissed its dark surroundings as a mere change in atmosphere.
  • Mo Bai sent an empowered Yamata no Orochi, fitted with Hun of the Divine Dogs' Wolf Claw, against Scar while the domain's shadows formed weapons.
  • Scar charged Mo Bai and severed his arm with a tiny portal, but Mo Bai refused to dismiss Yamata no Orochi to heal himself.
  • Mo Bai unleashed tens of thousands of shadow blades at Scar, who transformed into his enormous demonic form and welcomed the fight.
  • Mo Bai and Scar sensed that someone outside had disrupted the stability of the domain.

Ch. 75The Cunning One
