With so many eyes fixed on him, Aaron spoke calmly and confidently.

The manor was not particularly large by the standards of those near Suzail, but today it was positively crowded.

Several paladins stood to the left beneath the horseshoe-shaped steps. Some belonged to the Church of the Three Gods of Justice, others to the Church of Lathander, and still others to the less commonly seen Nature Pantheon. Their response to Aaron's arrival was muted: neither hostile nor enthusiastic.

Beside the paladins stood druids of the Emerald Enclave. They greeted Aaron far more warmly, since he had demonstrated Life Magic before them quite often lately.

The Harpers' reaction went without saying. There were whistles, cheers, and teasing remarks. One young woman with black hair and black eyes, dressed in a dancer's outfit and a tight miniskirt even in the depths of winter, actually winked at Aaron, much to Eleanor's displeasure.

Mother Selûne was the Harpers' patron goddess, and their leader Samir was a good friend of Aaron's. Their warmth was only natural.

To the right of the horseshoe-shaped steps stood a group of Cormyrean nobles, worshippers and clerics of Tymora, goddess of luck, and a group of mages from Waterdeep.

Milmantle Rhaur stood in the center of the steps, holding the hand of a lovely young girl. Unless Aaron was mistaken, she was Lady Laeral's adopted daughter, Christine.

Two noblewomen also stood behind Lady Laeral.

The first was rather tall, but so thin and frail that she looked sickly.

She was probably Evan Starlana, Arabel's guard commander and Lady Laeral's capable deputy.

That meant the second noblewoman must be... Aaron turned his gaze toward her.

She must be Irin, Lady Laeral's former adventuring
