Background and History

Karin’s parents wandered after Uzushio’s destruction. Her father died while her mother was pregnant; her mother sought refuge in Kusagakure, where the Grass Ninja imprisoned and repeatedly used her bite-triggered healing until she died. Karin witnessed that exploitation growing up and feared the village would eventually treat her the same way 206 213.

Karin became a Kusagakure ninja to survive, but received little training. She admired Naruto after seeing him at the Chunin Ninja Exams. When a copy of his Diary appeared to her, she learned he was coming to rescue her. Soon afterward, Grass Ninja shackled her and took her to a dungeon to use her healing ability; she did not resist because she expected Naruto to arrive 206 207 211.

Naruto found Karin after attacking Kusagakure, tested her healing ability, discarded her Grass forehead protector, and declared her a Konoha ninja. The village’s destruction left Karin grieving for her mother, but also feeling that her death had been avenged. Naruto subsequently gave Karin a summoning contract and brought her to Konoha, where the other Diary holders welcomed her into the Uzumaki Clan Compound 208 209 211 214.

Although the bodies at Hozuki Castle disturb her, she chooses to stay and confront the scene rather than remain someone who can only hide behind others 206 211. She is openly affectionate toward Naruto, while the welcome she receives in Konoha eases her anxiety about finding a place to belong 212 214.
