Background

Li Mo originates from a technologically developed world and transmigrated into the Nasuverse after falling asleep in front of his computer. Because neither the Clock Tower nor the Atlas Institute's Hermes Trismegistus can find any record of his existence, he concludes that he is not native to this world. His overriding goal is to return home without abandoning the people he comes to care for in his new life 3 24 79.

After reaching the Clock Tower, Li Mo attaches himself to Lord Brishisan of the Department of Lore. His rare Average One aptitude and extraordinary learning speed convince Brishisan to take responsibility for him; Brishisan eventually calls him his adopted son and names him the intended future Monarch of the Department of Lore 3 16 24.

Li Mo's encounter with the Withered Lotus changes the course of his development. Transported into a world containing a sun, he survives an overwhelming infusion of power by turning his body's meridians into additional Magic Circuits. He returns with 365 circuits and golden magical power, but initially lacks the knowledge and control needed to use that power effectively 25 26 27.

A later expedition sends him into the Sea of Stars, where time passes differently. Although he experiences only a short period away, two years pass at the Clock Tower. There he meets Little Sun, receives Star Essence, and gains the foundations for the Silent World within his soul 53 59 77 79.

Li Mo is a young man with shoulder-length black hair, which he leaves uncut after arriving in this world. His eyes can shine gold after reinforcement, and his aura becomes markedly oppressive following the Lotus transformation 26 59 112.

Personality

Li Mo is intensely curious about magecraft and pursues new knowledge with unusual speed. He is inventive rather than conventionally disciplined, repeatedly adapting magecraft for unexpected purposes—such as reinforcing his tongue to accelerate incantations or using Projection Magecraft to manifest a sun 17 35.

Despite his arrogance and frequent shamelessness, he remains deeply attached to the people he considers family. His desire to return to his original world is tempered by his determination to bring Brishisan, Touko, and Sakura with him rather than leave them behind 67 110. Sakura's suffering under the Matou family is a particular line he refuses to tolerate 65 68.

Li Mo can be manipulative when he believes the result is justified, such as exploiting Shirou Emiya's ideals to remove him from Fuyuki or maneuvering Zouken Matou into his own trap 66 68. However, he rejects the idea that lives in Lostbelts should simply be sacrificed for Human Order and seeks to relocate their inhabitants instead 175 179.
