(Everyone, the picture above is of Pato. This little animal appeared in the movie, not the anime. If you don't know him, you can watch the movie. I won't say more about him here ︿( ̄︶ ̄)︿.)
Chapter 9
Creak~~
The wooden door slowly opened with a crisp sound.
The Palace was spacious, bare of decoration and almost empty.
At the far end stood a rectangular stone table about a meter tall, with two wooden boxes on it.
"Boss, there's a sword on the table, and a Devil Fruit."
Pato leaped onto Chris's shoulder and explained with a grin.
Baccarat looked at Pato with her beautiful eyes and asked with a charming smile, "Little guy, how do you know so much about it?"
Pato grinned, delighted. "There were two Devil Fruits here. I ate one, so of course there's only one left."
"An animal eating a Devil Fruit? Now that's something."
Cigarette between her lips, Belo Betty looked Pato up and down, trying to figure him out.
"Anything really can happen on the sea. Wi-hahahaha..."
Hearing Pato's explanation, Chris understood.
So the Mythical Zoan Tanuki Fruit had been found on this Island.
What could the other fruit be?
The group reached the stone table and stopped to inspect it.
The long box held the sword. The short one had to hold the Devil Fruit.
"Hope it isn't a Zoan. Cough, cough~~"
A hopeful look appeared on Doc Q's weathered face.
Burgess laughed. "Logias are too rare. A Paramecia would be plenty."
Chris didn't hesitate. He opened the small wooden box.
Inside was a blue, apple-shaped Devil Fruit.
"Captain, what type is it? Is it a Logia?"
Burgess had never eaten a Devil Fruit and knew nothing about them.
Baccarat frowned slightly. "A blue Devil Fruit... What kind of power could it have?"
"Probably a Paramecia."
Chris tossed the fruit to Burgess, then opened the other wooden box.
A red gleam flashed.
A fierce aura burst out at once.
Even the air seemed to grow a little colder.
"Boss, there's something strange about that sword. I didn't even dare touch it."
Sitting on Chris's shoulder, Pato swept his tail back and forth, fear written all over his face.
Baccarat shook her head gently. "That aura is so fierce that an ordinary person could never wield it. It might even curse them."
"I'm curious what grade of sword it is."
Belo Betty studied the red blade and said gravely, "It's a Great Grade Sword at the very least. It might even be a Supreme Grade Sword."
Chris watched it in silence for a moment, then gripped the hilt.
Buzz~~
The red sword trembled. Its fierce aura surged, rushing into Chris's body.
It was trying to control him.
"Captain..."
"Chris..."
Burgess and the others watched him anxiously, afraid something would happen to him.
After all, the red sword was deeply unsettling.
Chris's gaze hardened as he stared at the blade.
"Submit to me!"
Conqueror's Haki erupted from him and slammed into the red sword.
Buzz, buzz, buzz~~
The blade shook violently, struggling to break free of Chris's grip.
A few seconds later, its fierce aura withdrew and the blade fell still.
It had submitted.
It had chosen Chris as its master.
"Very nice."
Chris raised the sword at an angle and nodded, praising it without reservation.
He was more than satisfied with this sword!!
"The captain's incredible! Wi-hahahaha..."
Burgess was thrilled to see Chris grow even stronger.
Doc Q smiled faintly. "That makes our crew even more formidable."
Belo Betty and Baccarat said nothing. As they looked at Chris, something shone in both their eyes.
For the former, it was admiration; for the latter, love.
Just then, a subordinate reported in.
"Captain, we searched the entire Palace. There's nothing else."
Chris turned and walked out with the sword in hand.
"Everyone, let's go."
"Yes, Captain Chris!"
The group filed out of the Palace and headed toward the shore...
Five days later.
White clouds drifted across a blue sky. The sun blazed, and gulls cried overhead.
It was a beautiful day.
Out on the open sea, a large ship cut through the water at speed.
Inside the Training Room.
"Chris really pushes himself. He doesn't even know how to rest."
Honey Queen leaned back in her chair with her legs crossed, watching the man ahead of her with a sweet smile.
Two days earlier, the Chris had entered the West Blue and landed at Kanaro Town.
It was there that Chris had invited Honey Queen aboard, making her a member of the Chris Pirates.
"I'm used to Chris being obsessed with training."
Belo Betty leaned against a table, cigarette between her fingers, her expression calm.
Baccarat brushed her dark red hair back from her forehead. A gentle, composed smile lit her exquisite face.
"On this ship, the strong rule!"
"If Chris doesn't work hard, he might lose his place as captain once more crew members join."
Baccarat looked at the two women and warned them, "If you want to become division commanders, you'll have to train hard too. Otherwise, you won't stand a chance."
(Everyone, the picture above is of Honey Queen. She's also from a movie, so you might not know much about her. I suggest watching it. I won't go into detail here and pad the word count ︿( ̄︶ ̄)︿.)
Chapter 10
"Division commander?"
Honey Queen waved a hand and smiled ruefully. "With my strength? I could never be a division commander."
"Honestly, I still don't understand why Chris made that rule for the ship."
Belo Betty flicked her cigarette butt into the sea as she spoke.
"There's no other reason. Chris believes in his own strength. That's all."
"No matter how often the division commanders change, his position as captain won't be affected. He's that confident."
After speaking, she looked ahead, where someone was training.
Chris stood in position, gripping Blood Red with both hands and swinging it again and again.
Chris had identified it as a Supreme Grade Sword and named it Blood Red.
Whoosh~~
Chris finally completed ten thousand swings, finishing his task for the day.
Then Blood Red shrank until it became a tiny red sword, which Chris hung around his neck.
"Every time I see that sword, it amazes me."
Watching Blood Red shrink, Honey Queen couldn't help marveling at it.
"I still can't quite believe a weapon can eat a Devil Fruit."
Belo Betty shrugged. "No need to be amazed. The sea's full of mysteries. You'll get used to it."
Suddenly, an alert sounded outside.
"Report..."
"Town ahead! Town ahead..."
As usual, the announcement repeated several times.
Honey Queen stood and smiled. "Let's buy some makeup in Town, and some pretty clothes too."
"Chris will surely keep training. He won't leave the ship, so let's go."
Belo Betty glanced at Chris. He was lifting a barbell and clearly had no plans to go ashore.
"Not this time. He'll get off the ship."
Baccarat watched him moving through his training and smiled. "Chris, luck's on our side again."
"Then let's go."
Chris dropped the barbell to the floor and headed straight for the door.
Honey Queen blinked at Baccarat and asked curiously, "Baccarat, did you get that feeling again?"
Baccarat nodded gently and smiled without saying more.
"More good luck. I wonder what it'll be this time?"
A rare look of anticipation appeared on Belo Betty's face.
The group soon reached the deck outside.
"Boss, will you teach me how to fish?"
Before you continue
