Gangzi's conduct was so outrageous that his sentence came down quickly. He was not sentenced to death, though.
Useless as Gangzi was, he still had a few connections in Nuoding City. In the end, he received three years in prison.
"Three years?!"
Gangzi felt as if the sky had fallen.
If he spent three years behind bars, how was he supposed to teach his prized disciple?
Without the guidance of his master of Invincible Theory, how would Xiao San ever become a Titled Douluo?
All Gangzi could do now was hope Flender would hurry over and get him out. He even felt a little resentful toward Tang Hao. Why wasn't he trying to help?
Tang Hao, meanwhile, was delighted. He had held off on killing Gangzi for so long only because he remembered Gangzi had some connection to Bibi Dong, Spirit Hall's current Pope. She possessed Twin Martial Souls, and Tang Hao hoped to learn how to cultivate them through Gangzi.
Tang Hao had no respect for a useless man like Gangzi, but he could not kill him. Now Gangzi was headed for three years of suffering in Prison, and Tang Hao's precious son would be spared his lies. Of course he was pleased.
Tang San could barely eat or drink. He was so distracted during a sparring match with Hei Ranbai that he let his guard down, and the Divine Dogs scratched his backside.
"Bruce, what did you do?" Looking at Tang San's torn trousers and the claw marks on his backside, Hei Ranbai fought back a laugh. He glared furiously at Bruce, then gave him a kick. "You stupid dog!"
Divine Dog: Totality looked aggrieved. If he could have spoken, he would have protested, "Come on, you're the one who told me to scratch his backside!"
Of course, even if Bruce could speak, Hei Ranbai would have denied it to his dying breath.
"Xiao San, are you all right?" Hei Ranbai turned back to him with a look of concern.
Tang San covered his scratched backside and shook his head. "I'm fine."
He did not blame Hei Ranbai. Petty as he could be, injuries were inevitable in a fight, and he had failed to dodge in time. He was not quite petty enough to hold that against him.
Tang San was still thinking about his beloved teacher.
"Don't worry, Xiao San. Gang... ahem, Grandmaster will be fine. Didn't the headmaster say he has a Soul Saint friend? Once that friend gets here, everything will be all right."
Tang San rallied a little at those words. Yes, his teacher would be out soon.
He did not think his teacher had done anything wrong. If someone spent every day following him around and insulting him like that, he would want to kill them too. Plenty of rules in the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record made it clear: if someone was an enemy, kill the bastard.
In less than a week, Gangzi's case had been settled, and he was behind bars.
He was eating at the state's expense now. No, wait—more accurately, he was paying for the privilege of being imprisoned.
Did anyone think this was the modern world? If Prison really provided free food and lodging, who knew how many commoners would volunteer to go in?
With his Soul Power sealed, Gangzi entered the Prison, his face contorted with resentment. "Damn Spirit Hall. Damn Su Yuntao... Just you wait. Once Xiao San and Ranbai become Titled Douluo, they'll avenge me!"
"What are you muttering about? Keep moving!" The Prison Guard heard him, snorted, and struck him hard with his baton.
Gangzi sucked in a sharp breath and stumbled. He hurried into his cell.
The cell was cramped. Including Gangzi, it held eight people.
One man sat at ease on a bed. He was built like a bear, with a face full of stubble and eyes as fierce as a tiger's. One look told Gangzi he was a hardened killer.
"Wang Hu, you've got a new man in your cell. Make sure you 'educate' him."
"You got it." Wang Hu grinned at Gangzi.
A chill ran through Gangzi. He had a bad feeling about this.
He carefully sat down on the only empty bed.
Beside Wang Hu, a man with a scar across his face stared fixedly at Gangzi and swallowed.
"What's this, Scarface? Interested?" Wang Hu grinned with wicked amusement. He was, of course, one of Bai Ranmo's Clones.
Scarface gave him a fawning smile. He had once been the boss of this part of the Prison, but Wang Hu had come in a few days ago, beaten him up, and taken his place. Now Scarface could only act as meek as Hakimi. "Heh, of course, Brother Hu. He's a little old, but look how smooth and delicate his skin is. This is exactly my type."
Wang Hu's mouth twitched. The lecherous look on Scarface's face reminded him of a line that was wildly popular in Douluo fanfiction: The Douluo come and go, but Scarface remains.
It seemed that no matter the parallel universe, Gangzi could never escape Scarface's clutches!
That suited him just fine.
Three more Infinite Points Cards had appeared in the Shop recently. This time, each lasted half an hour and cost 20,000 Emotion Points. Fortunately, Bai Ranmo had been reaching the daily cap of 8,000 Emotion Points, so he had managed to buy them.
Bai Ranmo had bought them without hesitation. Now it was time for Gangzi to suffer!
Gangzi had heard Scarface and Wang Hu too. He was a Soul Master, after all. Even with his Soul Power sealed, his five senses were sharper than an ordinary person's.
His mind might have been a little off, but he still understood what they were implying.
When he saw Scarface's moon-crater face and sausage-like lips, he nearly threw up. He was so frightened he fell off the bed.
"You're up." Wang Hu grinned and patted Scarface beside him.
"Oh, how did you manage to fall? Come on, let me help you. What's your name?" Seeing Gangzi on the floor, Scarface rushed over enthusiastically and pulled him up.
His rough hands lingered on Gangzi, his eyes full of affection.
Gangzi snatched his hand away. "I'm fine... I'm fine. My name is Yu Xiaogang."
He retreated onto the bed, as though it offered some measure of safety.
"Oh, Xiaogang? That's a nice name, Xiaogang... Heh heh heh." Scarface rubbed his hands together, barely able to restrain himself.
"Wait." Just as Gangzi sank into despair, Wang Hu stopped Scarface.
Scarface looked at Wang Hu in confusion. "What is it, Brother Hu? Do you want to try this little crew-cut guy first?"
"I'm not into that. I just think you should wait until bath time to teach him how to pick up soap!" Wang Hu grinned and patted Scarface on the shoulder.
He had two reasons for stopping Scarface. First, no one else in the cell was particularly interested in Gangzi, so doing it now would not earn him as many Emotion Points as possible.
Second, he slept in this cell too. He had no desire to lie awake at night surrounded by strange smells.
