In the Minister's Office at the Ministry of Magic, Will settled the unconscious Scrimgeour into a chair, then used Apparition to leave the Ministry and return to his study in the High Tower.

He was a little disappointed. Scrimgeour was rather hidebound in some respects; Will had thought the man really would stop at nothing to move forward.

Using dark wizards as test subjects struck Will as positively benevolent-humans considered insects that killed pests beneficial, so surely eliminating harmful people made him a good person, too.

Ever since his third year, Will had held firmly to one boundary: he would not harm the innocent.

That afternoon, Will chose to attend class rather than remain absent. That way, no one would suspect he had left Hogwarts that morning.

The afternoon's class was Defense Against the Dark Arts.
