Jerry watched the circular pattern appear on the coffee table. When his name emerged at its very center, his breathing unconsciously quickened. This was hardly a mark of the Apostles anymore—it was one outrageously grand promise of pie in the sky!

Catherine's tone was filled with indifference toward those billions of Muggle lives. It was as though, in her eyes, whether they lived or died mattered less than a slight frown or a moment of displeasure from Jerry.
