Place Fürstenberg was a small square in Paris's sixth arrondissement. It looked unremarkable, but the headquarters of the French Ministry of Magic lay beneath it.
Ministry staff stood beside the Wallace Fountain at the center of the square and coughed twice. Tree roots would rise from the ground and form a birdcage elevator around the visitor, carrying them down to the Ministry headquarters.
In a Muggle café not far from the square, Jerry cast a Muggle-Repelling Charm on himself after entering and sat there all day. Through the window, he watched staff come and go from the Ministry entrance.
Jerry had spotted his target, Vincent Martin, but the old man was far too cautious. Whenever he left the Ministry, three or four Aurors accompanied him.
Jerry had secretly watched him for three days without once catching him alone! Every time Vincent appeared, a crowd followed right behind him!
Jerry had no chance to ambush him!
Should I sneak into the Ministry and strike there?
The thought flashed through Jerry's mind, but he quickly dismissed it.
Even if he managed to deal with Vincent Martin, he would have no way out. Apparition was prohibited inside the French Ministry of Magic, and Jerry had no intention of putting himself in danger for that old man.
Over those three days, Jerry had considered other underhanded ideas, such as poison, but rejected them all. Getting poison would be easy. He could barely get near his target, though, let alone poison him.
Last night, Jerry had secretly met the Apostles' leader in Paris as Blackwing. He had also learned that they had someone planted inside the French Ministry of Magic. He could have the Apostles handle the poisoning!
The Pure-Blood Party was another headache. They respected Jerry, but only because of Grindelwald.
