Background / History

Qingyun Sect was founded by Patriarch Qingyunzi more than two thousand years ago. Qingyunzi originally accepted ten disciples, but disasters, vendettas, and disappearances reduced the surviving inheritance to Tongtian Peak alone. The sect later returned to prominence under True Master Qingye, who established the Seven Meridians, created the Taiji Xuanqing Dao cultivation system, passed down the Four Great Sword Techniques, and strengthened the sect’s foundations with a grand formation. 229 257 305

Tongtian Peak serves as the sect’s central peak and is surrounded by the other six peak lineages. Yuqing Hall is its principal meeting hall, while the Illusory Moon Cave is a restricted cultivation site that houses the Immortal Slaying Sword. A protective formation ordinarily forbids flight above Tongtian Peak, even for lineage leaders. 1 107 258

After the Caomiao Village massacre at the foot of Qingyun Mountain, the sect investigated the atrocity and accepted surviving children—including Ji Changfeng, Zhang Xiaofan, and Lin Jingyu—as disciples. The decision also prevented the massacre from becoming a public disgrace to the sect. 1

Under True Master Daoxuan and later Ji Changfeng, Qingyun Sect’s influence expanded sharply. It supported Jin Ping’er’s restoration of the Hehuan Orthodox as the Xuanzha Sect, mobilized against the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect, became the central force in successive crises, and eventually stood as the undisputed leader of the righteous path. 148 163 262 322

New disciples are taught twelve sect rules and twenty-four precepts, centered on respecting one’s master, honoring the Dao, and opposing evil. The Taiji Xuanqing Dao is treated as a protected core inheritance; disciples must swear not to transmit it outside the sect. 3

Cultivation Heritage

Taiji Xuanqing Dao

Qingyun Sect’s foundational cultivation method has three major realms: Jade Purity, Supreme Purity, and Grand Purity, each divided into nine layers. It was refined by True Master Qingye and remains the basis of the sect’s traditional cultivation system. 3 107 257
