Background / History

Jin Ping'er was raised from childhood by Immortal Fairy Sanmiao as her personal disciple in the Joyous Union Sect. Though the sect had fallen into heretical practices after losing its inheritance, Sanmiao believed Jin Ping'er's exceptional talent and special constitution were suited to the orthodox Joyous Union path instead. 114 115

After Sanmiao was gravely injured using the incomplete Love Curse, she ordered Jin Ping'er to recover the Lovesick Bell from Ji Changfeng. The bell was needed to open the sect's legacy site, recover the orthodox inheritance, and possibly find medicine capable of extending Sanmiao's life. Jin Ping'er was instructed to obtain it through seduction or theft, while keeping her Joyous Union Sect identity hidden. 114

Using the identity of “Miss Miao,” she hosted poetry gatherings at Xiaoxiang Pavilion in Crimson Water City and drew Ji Changfeng's attention. Her early attempt to seduce him was ineffective, and she eventually revealed the truth about her sect, the inheritance, and its knowledge of the Ancient Witch Script. Ji Changfeng agreed to help her claim the inheritance. 127 130 136 137

Jin Ping'er returned to the Joyous Union Sect with Ji Changfeng, obtained its legacy, and left the sect behind. Her departure and the loss of the inheritance led Immortal Fairy Sanmiao to brand her a traitor and issue a bounty against her. Sanmiao subsequently failed her attempt to transcend and perished, leaving Jin Ping'er sorrowful and regretful. 142 143

With Qingyun Sect's support, Jin Ping'er reestablished the Hehuan Orthodox under the new name Xuanzha Sect. She was formally recognized as its sect master, and Miaoyin Peak west of the Qingyun Mountain Range was selected as the sect's location. 146 148 149

Jin Ping'er is deeply loyal to Immortal Fairy Sanmiao, whose care and upbringing shape her willingness to undertake the dangerous mission against Ji Changfeng. Early in the story, she is comparatively inexperienced, hesitant, and unable to fully conceal her intentions despite her training in seduction. 114 115 126

She is also pragmatic and self-aware. After witnessing Ji Changfeng's overwhelming strength, she abandons any thought of stealing from him and chooses honesty as her only viable path. When meeting Lu Xueqi, she recognizes their disparity in cultivation and status, deliberately yields, and addresses her as “Sister Lu” rather than provoking a direct conflict. 136 153 154
