Background / History

Xiaobai was born around the same era as Qingyun Sect patriarch Qingye. She had only barely attained human form while Qingye had already become unmatched in the world. Her own slow advancement left her envious of humans’ comparatively rapid cultivation. 186

As the Fox Tribe’s chieftain, Xiaobai maintained good relations with members of the Ancient Witch Tribe. She later led her clan against Incense Valley to reclaim the tribe’s sacred Profound Fire Mirror, fulfilling a promise rather than pursuing the artifact for herself. The campaign nearly destroyed the Fox Qishan Fox Tribe, and Xiaobai was ultimately sealed beneath Incense Valley’s Profound Fire Altar for more than three centuries. 184 186 199

Ji Changfeng rescued Xiaobai by infiltrating Incense Valley, destroying the Eight Fiends Profound Fire Array, and taking her from the altar. Since she had been isolated for centuries and did not know him, Xiaobai initially feigned drunkenness and tested whether he harbored designs on her; his decision to leave her safely to rest earned part of her trust. 185 187

She accompanied Ji Changfeng to the Demon Suppressing Ancient Cave, where she revisited the legacy of Witch Maiden Linglong and learned the Beast God’s origins and destructive intentions.
