Voyage and Suppression of the Rebellion

Jaeger was the Kronos Kingdom’s crown prince and Bane’s elder brother. When the kingdom became trapped in a stalemate with the World Government-backed Chronos Kingdom, he went to sea to hone his abilities and seek a way to end the conflict. He traveled under a false identity and became famous as the “Grim Reaper” 3 4.

After more than a decade of deadlock, Jaeger returned and killed the opposing Army General in a direct clash. His intervention broke the rebellion: nearly half of its approximately 500,000 soldiers were slaughtered, the remaining army was captured, and the lost territory returned to Kronos 3 4.

The intervention exposed his royal identity to the World Government, but he did not remain to inherit the throne. His connection to the royal line was never publicly announced, and most outsiders knew him only as a pirate associated with Kronos by birthplace 4 8.

Pirate Career and Founding Organizations

Before the Rocks Pirates existed, Jaeger secretly founded Dark Night, an organization combining intelligence gathering and assassination. He concealed both his identity and his control of it 41.

Jaeger met Rocks D. Zebek during his adventures and became one of the Rocks Pirates’ founding members. His attacks inflicted heavy losses on the World Government and Marines, including the destruction of two New World Marine fortresses with no survivors 4.

He commanded the renowned Death Fleet, which included another top-tier fighter and numerous formidable pirates. At the time of his death, his faction was the strongest force within the Rocks Pirates 5 23.

As crown prince, Jaeger recruited many followers with the intention that they would eventually serve the Tartarus Family. Some could have entered the kingdom’s army or Underworld Prison, while others could have remained at sea to protect Kronos. A few followed him before the Rocks Pirates were founded 74.

Hades was born in the first year after the Rocks Pirates’ founding. Jaeger was nearly forty, while Nyx was not yet twenty 4.

Final Battle

Eight years before Sea Era 1469, Jaeger was ambushed during an operation to destroy a nation. A CP0 agent wielding the Barrier-Barrier Fruit enclosed Jaeger and roughly one-third of his pirates inside an apparently impregnable barrier, preventing the remaining followers from joining them 4 23.

The battle lasted two days and nights and destroyed the entire island. Rocks attempted to reach Jaeger, but Fleet Admiral Black and Admiral Kong delayed him until rescue was impossible 4.

Jaeger was not fighting alone: the Death Fleet and its second top-tier fighter participated. Later accounts exaggerated the battle into a solo stand, obscuring the fleet’s contribution 5.

Repeated Marine attacks exhausted him. He refused capture because imprisonment would cost him his freedom and allow the World Government to use him against the Kronos Kingdom 29.

Aftermath and Legacy

Jaeger’s death also cost Kronos the exceptional fighter who had accompanied him to sea and was considered a candidate for Hell’s commander-in-chief. The loss of two top-tier fighters was unprecedented in the kingdom’s thousand-year history; the royal family considered retaliation but restrained itself because Hades remained 4 5.

The Rocks Pirates retaliated by destroying ninety percent of the Marines’ New World strongholds and threatening G-1. The Marines’ casualties and financial losses prevented them from containing the crew, and the war ended in a Rocks Pirates victory 26. During the retaliatory war, Rocks personally killed a Celestial Dragon; the World Government suppressed news of the killing 151.

Jaeger’s legacy remained active through several surviving assets and conflicts:

• Inherited power: The reborn Death-Death Fruit was recovered by the Kronos Kingdom and given to Hades 5.
• Inherited knowledge: Bane passed Jaeger’s notebook to Hades, preserving his experience with Devil Fruit development, Haki, and Body Techniques 6 33.
• Surviving followers: More than half of his pirates survived the ambush. Many retained admiration or debts of gratitude toward him, although loyalty to Jaeger did not automatically extend to Hades 23.

Jaeger was ruthless toward his enemies. His reputation as “Death God” rested on devastating attacks, including the annihilation of two Marine fortresses without survivors. Few pirates who had crossed him survived his strength and authority 4 23.

He valued freedom and refused to surrender even when worn down. His decision also reflected concern for Kronos: he feared becoming leverage through which the World Government could threaten or destabilize the kingdom 29.

His approach to the Death-Death Fruit prioritized destruction above all else. Hades regarded that path as powerful but incomplete and sought to develop a stamina-restoring alternative rather than simply reproduce his father’s methods 29.
