Background / History

Service to the Tartarus Family

Titan was born with monstrous strength, an unusually powerful physique, and an appetite large enough to consume food for a hundred people at each meal. He and Zoro were regarded as the finest talents of their generation and prospective pillars of the Kronos Kingdom 4.

His potential made him a possible future commander-in-chief and leader of Hell, Underworld Prison’s military branch. That path was abandoned because his personality did not suit work in the shadows, and Hell already had a promising successor. Instead, the royal family assigned him directly to Hades to cultivate his loyalty 4.

Titan was already serving Hades during Nyx’s last period in the kingdom. Hades later explicitly counted both Titan and Zoro as family, despite placing the greatest trust in blood relatives. After choosing to follow Hades, Titan was granted the Tartarus surname 6 20 104.

Departure and Training

Titan first appears watching Hades fight a gigantic elephant, reassuring Zoro that the prince is unharmed. When Hades decides to leave the kingdom, Bane chooses Titan to accompany him while Zoro remains behind to train 1 4.

During the departure, Titan stores the party’s provisions, training equipment, and wealth inside his devouring space. He travels with Hades to meet Nyx, then trains aboard the Kuja Pirates’ ship under Nyx and Shakky. Although he witnesses the Kuja’s killing and plundering, he does not participate 19 20 32.

On Rusukaina, Titan initially overwhelms ordinary beasts through toughness, endurance, and consumption. His confidence collapses when he encounters two fighting Beast Kings: their projected Armament Haki injures him before he can approach, forcing him to flee. Nyx subsequently directs him to challenge Beast Kings every few days, turning repeated defeats into a sustained training regimen 36 37.

Over two years, his recovery lets him return to opponents that had beaten him the day before. The Beast Kings eventually recognize him and sometimes cooperate against him, but he grows strong enough to defeat them. His victory over the fire-wielding lion ends with the animal lowering its head in submission 39.

Kent Island

Shakky provides Titan and Hades with navigation aids and sends them toward Hachinosu to earn admission to the Rocks Pirates independently. On Kent Island, Titan wears a conspicuous gold pouch at Hades’s instruction, baiting pirates into a confrontation intended to publicize their arrival 42 43.

At Hades’s command, Titan attacks with his enormous hammer, devastating two streets. He then uses his twin hammers to kill wounded and fallen enemies while Hades immobilizes would-be escapees with Conqueror’s Haki. Some victims had merely been caught in the designated area rather than participating in the confrontation 45 46.

The destruction makes auction attendees wary of approaching them and contributes to the Marines’ assessment that the pair require a substantial encirclement operation. Their local opponents do not retaliate; Nyx’s warning and the Kronos Kingdom’s influence also deter the island’s Underworld powers 47 48.

When Marines attack on Kent Island, Titan kills Rear Admiral López and Vice Admirals Henry and Casillas. Sensing Hades’s anger, he resolves to kill every Marine in his path. After the battle, he conceals his beast form in poisonous mist and swallows Navy warships at the port. Hades has him reveal and launch only a small boat for their escape, keeping the extent of his storage ability secret 57 58 60 61.

Rocks Pirates and Family

On the way to Hachinosu, Titan kills pirates who test or provoke Hades. More than ten pirate crews fall to his twin hammers. Once among the Rocks Pirates, he continues training under the pressure of being surrounded by exceptionally strong fighters 69 76.

By seventeen, Titan’s powers and reputation have earned him the name “Taotie.” After growing familiar with Charlotte Linlin through shared missions and time on Hachinosu, he is subjected to a scheme that leaves him feeling deeply humiliated. Their twin sons are later born: Titan takes the younger, Tyr Tartarus, to raise with Hades’s side, while Linlin names and raises the elder, Typhon Charlotte 100 101 102 103 104.

Titan names Tyr in the hope that he will become a mighty warrior for the Tartarus Family. The brothers later meet and repeatedly clash at Swordsmanship Tournaments, pursuing a rivalry without hostility despite their different homes 104 287 1231.

War and Later Service

As a leading fighter for Hades’s Pluton Pirates, Titan transports extensive war supplies inside his devouring space. During the war against the Allied Forces, he destroys the garrison and nearby supply lines at G-38 Fortress while the principal battle draws attention elsewhere. He later raids Marine Branches, using poisonous mist to kill their personnel and swallowing valuables and ships. His theft of warships and transports helps cripple Allied troop movement and supply deliveries 123 136 140 144.

Titan also diverts the flying Army General Storm Dragon to let the Farazul escape. Storm Dragon, who has fought him before, concludes that he cannot defeat Titan in a sustained battle. At G-5 Fortress, Titan attacks the assembled Allied Forces in beast form and carries Newgate into the assault 143 144 160.

After Hades’s return to the Kronos Kingdom, Titan remains one of its foremost fighters. He earns Elbaf’s respect by fighting through its warriors while delivering a royal invitation, though one powerful giant swordsman stops him. Years later, he receives Prince Loki’s diplomatic delegation and agrees to a future spar 234 244 339.

Titan accompanies Hades to Paros Island when Tyr and Typhon fight publicly. As a stray cannon blast threatens the island, Titan stands ready to devour it, but Kasa redirects it first 1232 1237.

• Human form: Initially a burly, somewhat plump youth approaching five meters tall. After Rusukaina, he exceeds six meters and has thick black hair falling past his shoulders; at seventeen, he stands over seven meters tall 1 4 19 39 100.

Personality

Titan’s loyalty centers on Hades personally. He considers protecting him his duty and treats his orders as absolute. Hades’s rapid improvement worries him—not because he objects to his lord becoming stronger, but because falling too far behind might leave him unable to remain at Hades’s side 36.

He is straightforward and prone to overconfidence. Early victories on Rusukaina lead him into danger beyond his strength, while his extraordinary recovery later encourages increasingly reckless challenges. Nevertheless, he persists through repeated defeats rather than abandoning his training 36 39.

Titan is comfortable with gruesome violence. While finishing off enemies on Kent Island, he feels excitement rather than disgust. His fruit-enhanced appetite also makes eating beasts raw seem ordinary to him; he needs only seasoning and suffers no digestive discomfort 46.

Though his education was deliberately limited, Titan has sharp combat instincts and becomes a practiced raider. He feels Hades’s fury as his own and will attack those Hades marks as enemies without needing an explanation 57 69 140.
