| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Observation Haki awakened at birth | 6 | Born able to sense emotions, with an unusually extensive detection range. |
| Conqueror’s Haki already awakened | 6 | Established as an existing ability before his Armament awakening; its original awakening is not dated. |
| Death-Death Fruit acquired | 5 | Eats the fruit given to him by Bane. Ashen-gray Power of Death immediately manifests around his body. |
| Basic Power of Death control | 6 | Restricts the power to a small area, retracts it into his body, and avoids damaging his clothes while corroding nearby tiles. |
| Life Return and Inch Power mastered | 17 | Documented as existing accomplishments developed through earlier training. Gains precise bodily control and concentrated, internally destructive strikes. |
| Improved Observation and Conqueror’s control | 17 18 | Taijiquan sharpens his internal awareness and “God’s-eye view.” His Observation Haki can cover the capital and detect approaching hostile agents. |
| Armament Haki awakened | 32 | Awakens after a day of repeated Haki-infused blows from Shakky, deliberately withholding his Devil Fruit and Body Techniques. |

| Emission barrier demonstrated | 46 | Protects himself from Titan’s destructive attack with an Armament Haki barrier. |
| Top Combatant-level strength and refined fruit combat | 108 | At sixteen, defeats numerous powerful pirates and draws with stronger opponents who are also holding back. His Power of Death erodes Haki, vitality, and incoming attacks. |
| Independent Haki interference integrated | 133 148 | Controls flowing Haki like invisible tendrils to disrupt attacks, target joints, and hinder movement. Its effectiveness grows as his body and Haki mature. |
| Conqueror’s Haki Coating mastered | 147 | Coats his Death Scythe and combines the coating with his auras of slaughter and death against the head of CP0. |
| Life-force plunder demonstrated | 161 | Drains a bound CP0 agent into dust and absorbs the resulting life force. |
| All Things Are Impermanent developed | 198 | His ultimate combat stance combines all three types of Haki, Body Techniques, and the Death-Death Fruit into overlapping oppressive domains. It offers precise counters and sustained attrition at increased Haki cost. |
| Kingdom-spanning Conqueror’s Haki displayed | 247 | At his coronation, his presence affects the weather before he releases Conqueror’s Haki across Kronos and its surrounding waters. |
| Extreme-gravity bodily mastery | 492 | Years of gravity and targeted Haki conditioning give him severalfold greater combat ability and the control to deliver maximum destructive force through ordinary movements. His private room can reach 300 times normal gravity. |
| Future Sight confirmed | 964 | Later reflection identifies Future Sight among advanced techniques he mastered at a young age; the chapter does not date its acquisition. |
| Kingdom-wide Observation demonstrated | 994 | Can monitor the entire Kronos Kingdom with Observation Haki. |
Background / History
Royal Heir and Inherited Conflict
Hades retains memories of a privileged previous life, including knowledge of martial arts, psychology, technology, and future figures in the pirate world. He initially expected a comfortable existence in Kronos, but his father’s death and the World Government’s interference turn strength and revenge into personal priorities 4 17 21 22.
His father, Jaeger, helped found the Rocks Pirates and died eight years before Hades’s departure, after a prolonged battle against Marine and CP0 forces. The loss of Jaeger and another exceptional kingdom fighter devastated Kronos. The Tartarus Family restrained its desire for immediate retaliation because Hades remained its future heir 4 5.
The World Government supports a rebellion against Kronos, which has repeatedly refused membership. It also targets Hades personally, fearing that Jaeger’s son may become another major threat. A Cipher Pol infiltrator kills a trained double in his place, demonstrating that even the palace’s defenses cannot guarantee his safety 2 4 14.
Hades decides to leave and seek protection and growth among the Rocks Pirates. Bane initially objects to the crew’s brutality but eventually accepts the decision, assigns Titan to accompany him, and keeps Zoro in Kronos for military training. Before Hades leaves, Bane gives him Jaeger’s recovered Death-Death Fruit and research notebook 2 4 5 6.
Intelligence Leadership and Kingdom Development
The royal family introduces Hades to the Underworld Prison at eight. By twelve, he has nearly taken control of its worldwide intelligence network; formally assuming leadership makes him, in practice, one of the kingdom’s rulers. He receives reports on Government agents, Marine deployments, and the growth of major pirate crews 7 14.
Hades treats commerce, technology, and military modernization as foundations for his eventual rule. He establishes the Royal Academy of Sciences behind the scenes, supports weapons development, and seeks talented researchers from across the seas. Arms production is intended first to strengthen Kronos’s military, with export profits providing additional resources 8 10 12 15.
His development plans include mechanized agriculture and a maglev network with separate passenger, freight, and underground military services. He also directs the treasury, Royal Trading Company, and Underworld Prison to acquire Devil Fruits, particularly to strengthen the royal family. Bane oversees the long-term construction and reforms during his absence 6 7 14 20.
Departure and Two-Year Training
Hades permits Ananke, his cousin and fiancée, to accompany him after initially refusing out of concern for her safety. Her ability to reverse recent injuries—and potentially a death only seconds old—makes her an unusually valuable protector. Bane also secretly assigns Dove, the Underworld Prison’s strongest fighter, to guard Hades without interfering with his independence 18 19.
At the coast, Hades reunites with his mother, Nyx, after six years apart. Seeing the scar inflicted on her by Vice Admiral Vic, he resolves to avenge her. Nyx persuades him to postpone Hachinosu and undergo two years of training first, warning that his identity would attract dangerous attention before he was ready 20 21.
After identifying suspected spies aboard Nyx’s ship and briefly stopping at Night Island, the group leaves under cover of her darkness and joins the Kuja Pirates. Shakky’s sparring helps awaken Hades’s Armament Haki, while Nyx forces him to confront his dependence on Observation Haki 21 22 29 30 32 33.
On Rusukaina, Hades advances through progressively stronger opponents while maintaining his Taijiquan practice. He learns to defeat the island’s giant ape through precision, internal damage, and force redirection rather than superior physical strength. Nyx leaves six months before the training period ends, having judged him safe and recognized that a powerful hidden protector is watching over him 34 37 38 41.
Public Debut on Kent Island
In early February of Sea Era 1471, Hades and Titan reach Kent Island with maps, intelligence, and Eternal Poses supplied by Shakky. They plan to earn their own places during the Rocks Pirates’ March recruitment. Hades becomes interested in an auction offering a Devil Fruit and a Famous Sword 42 43.
Hades deliberately has Titan display gold to lure attackers and create a public spectacle. Wearing the Tartarus crest allows observers to identify him; he hopes to attract and defeat a Marine Vice Admiral before reaching Hachinosu. When the confrontation escalates, he orders Titan to kill the hostile crowd and uses Conqueror’s Haki to prevent escape 43 45 46.
Nyx has already warned the island’s underworld backers against interfering with him. Marine intelligence nevertheless identifies Hades quickly, and Fleet Admiral Black organizes an encirclement involving Vic, nearby Marine forces, and Admiral Davis. Black suspects that Vic is Hades’s intended target, but considers the opportunity to eliminate Jaeger’s son worth the risk. The Rocks Pirates learn of the operation and choose not to intervene because they have another priority 47 48 49.
Rocks Pirates and the Formation of the Pluton Pirates
After Kent Island, Hades and Titan continue toward Hachinosu, killing pirate crews that challenge or test them. Hades defeats Rayman there with Armament Haki and Inch Power. He then withstands Rocks D. Zebek’s overwhelming will without submitting, earning a place in the Rocks Pirates for himself and Titan 69 73.
Hades opens an Exchange House on Hachinosu, using his wealth and underworld connections to establish a profitable foothold. He befriends Newgate and begins gathering Jaeger’s surviving followers, but insists that they follow him for his own ambitions rather than treat him as their former leader’s replacement. Karthus pledges himself to Hades; Hades later defeats and recruits Bar, Callaway, and Edge 74 75 76 108.
As his strength grows, Hades defeats and recruits other formidable pirates, including Cowens, Stumann, and Anselde. He challenges many of Hachinosu’s strongest fighters, remaining undefeated in encounters that include draws with opponents who, like him, do not fight to the death. His influence and officer corps expand until he becomes a core Rocks Pirates officer 107 108 109.
Hades eventually leaves Hachinosu aboard the Farazul and formally founds the Pluton Pirates, choosing “Pluton” as an identity of his own rather than inheriting Jaeger’s “Grim Reaper” title. He sets out to establish a base on Iskanbel Island. Ananke, then expecting their first child, advises him on the island’s rulers and its powerful Rocks Pirates master 106 114.
During the ensuing war, Hades commands a group that includes Newgate and targets the Marines’ supply network. He fights Fleet Admiral Black alongside Newgate and later helps Shiki occupy the head of CP0 while Rocks battles the Allied Forces’ leaders. His role extends beyond combat to reconnaissance, logistics, and planning 122 133 134 140 147 847.
Kingship and Long-Term Strategy
After years away, Hades returns to a rapidly industrializing Kronos Kingdom and meets his many young children. Bane later passes him the ancient royal scepter and sword; Hades takes the Throne and becomes king of Kronos and head of the Tartarus Family 169 247.
Hades continues developing the kingdom’s military, research, trade, and intelligence networks. He uses its growing power selectively, at times preferring a public military demonstration to exposing secret technology. Daily government is handled largely by the Cabinet and General Staff, while Hades retains final authority and monitors the kingdom through his Observation Haki 768 994.
He also cultivates forces beyond Kronos. Hades secretly arranges training, support, and opportunities for Marshall D. Teach, hoping to make him a powerful opponent of the World Government. He believes Teach’s unusual constitution could eventually accommodate numerous Devil Fruit abilities, but initially plans to eliminate him and claim those fruits after Teach serves his purpose. Later, Hades describes himself as a father figure to Teach and continues to regard the Black Emperor Pirates as useful to Kronos’s interests 338 792 1042.
Hades engineers or influences wider conflicts to weaken the World Government without placing Kronos openly at their center. His plans include using the scattered gold around Jaya to draw pirates and the Government into conflict, and strengthening the Revolutionary Army with the blueprints for Pluton. He remains skeptical that any successor to the World Government could end conflict at sea 1015 1082.
By the end of the story, Hades directs a broader institutional search for talent across the seas as Kronos develops into a superpower and devotes more resources to space exploration. He senses a shift in the planet’s consciousness and destiny toward an era of expansion beyond the world 1281.
Appearance
- Hair and eyes: Purple hair and regal purple eyes; his hair reaches his shoulders after the Rusukaina training period 1 42.
- Build: Already 1.9 meters tall at twelve, with a powerful physique. At fourteen, he has a muscular chest and has grown taller; by nineteen, he stands over three meters tall 1 42 138.
- Features: Handsome, with an innate noble bearing and a strong resemblance to Jaeger 1 42 48.
- Clothing: Wears an open black coat when reuniting with Shakky; on Kent Island, wears a purple robe trimmed with gold and displays the Tartarus Family crest 42 43.
- Distinguishing presence: His inherited Fierce God constitution produces a savage, intimidating aura 19 21.
- Later appearance: Still looks young at forty-six 994.
Personality
Hades is fiercely devoted to his family and distrustful of most outsiders. His experiences across two lives lead him to regard blood relatives as his most reliable foundation, though he also counts trusted retainers such as Titan and Zoro as family. He intends to expand the Tartarus bloodline and build a force whose loyalty he can trust 6.
His ambition combines personal supremacy with practical state-building. He wants to surpass Jaeger rather than become a second version of him, but understands that potential is not present strength. He accepts Nyx’s warning about Hachinosu, patiently develops his Haki foundation, and recognizes that his age still limits his physique 21 29 33 38.
He is disciplined and methodical in training, pursuing control as seriously as destructive power. Taijiquan helps him settle his emotions and refine bodily awareness. In combat, he studies opponents and adapts his techniques instead of depending solely on brute force 17 35 36.
Hades is also proud, elitist, and capable of calculated cruelty. He considers the Kent Island criminals beneath him, orders their slaughter, and treats the resulting destruction as a means of establishing his reputation. He recognizes his growing attraction to violence, while maintaining a personal rule against attacking genuine civilians 45 46. Later, he is willing to manipulate both allies and enemies for strategic ends, including grooming Teach without his knowledge and engineering a conflict over Jaya’s gold 338 1015.
His gentler side is most visible with Ananke and Nyx. He is protective of both, trusts his mother’s judgment, and reacts strongly to her injury. His exchanges with Shakky become flirtatious, but he postpones pursuing that attraction until he has established himself among the Rocks Pirates 18 20 21 42. As a father, he guides his children’s development while acknowledging that they need increasing independence as they mature 273 993.
Though his position eventually distances him from some former comrades, Hades maintains familiar ties with Newgate, Shiki, and Linlin. He remains committed to training and seeks opportunities beyond the seas rather than accepting stagnation 675 994 1281.
Abilities & Skills
Fierce God Physique and Aura
Hades perfectly inherits Jaeger’s exceptional Tartarus constitution, known as the Fierce God physique 21.
- Possesses innate monstrous strength, steel-like muscles and bones, and extraordinary vitality 21.
- At twelve, catches and overturns a gigantic elephant, withstands its trunk strike, and knocks it unconscious 1.
- Endures extreme weighted training and recovers rapidly from demanding sparring 16 32.
- Combines his savage aura with Armament Haki to increase defense and destructive power, or with Conqueror’s Haki to intensify its mental assault 39.
- Remains physically less durable than Rusukaina’s strongest beasts at fourteen; his potential has not fully matured 37 38.
- Later conditions individual parts of his body with Haki under extreme gravity. His control lets ordinary movements deliver his maximum destructive force 492.
Death-Death Fruit
The fruit produces an ashen-gray Power of Death that erodes life and matter without harming Hades himself 5 6.
- Decays living flesh and drains life; physical toughness alone cannot withstand it 5 29.
- Corrodes inanimate objects, weakening them into dust and eventually erasing them 6.
- Can be confined around his body or compressed at his fingertips 6 29.
- Can be resisted by Haki or a counteracting power 5.
- Develops enough destructive reach to leave a section of Rusukaina completely lifeless 39.
- Later erodes opposing Haki as well as vitality. Hardening or Coating alone offers insufficient protection; opponents must maintain stronger, more active defenses, draining their stamina. His deathly energy can also weaken incoming attacks 108 198.
- Death Plunder: Initially proposed as a way to steal life force and replenish his stamina. Hades later demonstrates life-force absorption by draining a CP0 agent into dust 29 36 161.
- Planned combination: Hades considers driving the Power of Death directly into an opponent with Armament Internal Destruction; the supplied chapters do not establish a distinct completed technique under that description 5.
- Death Domain: Surrounds an opponent with deathly energy that steadily wears away their Haki. It forms part of All Things Are Impermanent 198.
Observation Haki
Awakened at birth, Hades’s Observation Haki combines extensive detection with emotion sensing 6.
- Detects hostility and emotional inconsistencies, helping identify infiltrators and suspected spies 18 22.
- Uses knowledge of psychology from his previous life to interpret emotional clues and infer intentions; this is not established as direct mind-reading 22.
- Provides a developing “God’s-eye view,” with enough range to cover the capital 17 18.
- Allows him to inspect his own body and make minute corrections to his techniques 34.
- Helps anticipate attacks and sense airflow; Taijiquan also develops his awareness of nature and the “breathing of all things” 33 37 38.
- Its range later lets him locate targets near concealed supply depots, keep an island under surveillance, and eventually monitor the entire Kronos Kingdom 140 295 994.
- Later reflection confirms that he mastered Future Sight at a young age, without specifying when 964.
- Limitation: Early reliance on it leaves him stiff and vulnerable when Nyx seals it during training 33.
Armament Haki
Hades’s physical foundation and bodily control allow unusually rapid mastery after awakening Armament Haki 32 33.
- Hardening and Coating: Reinforces his body and attacks 32.
- Emission: Creates a defensive barrier against Titan’s destructive impact 46.
- Internal Destruction: Damages opponents internally and works alongside Bajiquan’s Inch Power 37 38.
- Flowing-Haki redirection: Uses the yielding properties of controlled Haki to weaken incoming attacks and disperse their force 38.
- Haki interference: Directs flowing Haki like invisible tendrils to disrupt strikes, target joints, impede movement, and bind opponents 133 148 161.
- Precise reinforcement: Concentrates Haki on the area about to be struck rather than wasting it on full-body coverage; later uses Haki to condition bones, muscles, blood, and other parts of his body during training 132 134 492.
- Limitation: Advanced applications still require sufficiently powerful Haki; technique alone cannot overcome stronger Haki defenses 33 38.
Conqueror’s Haki
Hades develops firm control over Conqueror’s Haki through mental discipline and training 17.
- Immobilizes fleeing enemies during the Kent Island massacre, enabling Titan to finish them 46.
- Can combine it with his Fierce God aura for a more intimidating mental attack 39.
- Masters Conqueror’s Haki Coating, applying it to his Death Scythe against the head of CP0 147.
- Forms an oppressive Conqueror’s Domain that attacks an opponent’s body and mind as part of All Things Are Impermanent 198.
- At his coronation, projects his will across Kronos and surrounding waters, causing people and beasts to kneel 247.
Martial Arts and Body Techniques
Hades builds his personal style from Bajiquan, Taijiquan, the Six Powers, and other techniques collected by Kronos 16 17.
| Technique | Function |
|---|---|
| Life Return | Mastered bodily-control technique that supports his precise command of his physique 17. |
| Inch Power | Concentrates force into a difficult-to-detect burst at a single point, damaging an opponent internally 17. |
| Burst Step | Shave-inspired explosive movement that produces rapid displacement and afterimages 16. |
| Sheath Breaker | Finger Pistol-inspired thrusts that use his fingers like stabbing blades 16. |
| Sword Flash | Combines Finger Pistol with swordsmanship to create cutting attacks with finger swords 16. |
| Thunder Flash | Fires concentrated air attacks from his fingertips. Powerful, but initially difficult to aim accurately at long range 16 35. |
| Sky Pursuit | A development of Geppo that lets him run rapidly through the air without his training weights 16. |
| Wandering Dragon | Combines Kami-e and Taijiquan principles for evasive movement and force dissipation on land and in the air 16 37. |
| Eight Extremes: Hurricane | Uses the Pteranodon’s gale to assist a kick to its vulnerable neck 35. |
| Eight Extremes: Falcon Hunt | Named attack used during beast training and the giant ape battle 36 38. |
| Bajiquan: Whale Strike | Named Bajiquan attack used against the giant ape 38. |
| Bajiquan: Dragon Fang | Named attack used during the giant ape battle 38. |
| Eight Extremes: Mountain-Crushing | Elbow strike used when meeting Newgate’s Tremor-Tremor Fruit attack 96. |
| All Things Are Impermanent | Ultimate stance uniting all three types of Haki, Body Techniques, and the Death-Death Fruit. Its overlapping domains weaken and hinder an opponent while Hades evades and counters with exceptional timing; it consumes Haki faster than his ordinary fighting style 198. |
- Centers his offense on claws, punches, and kicks, with less frequently used elbow and shoulder strikes 38.
- Uses Taijiquan to calm his mind, improve internal awareness, and reduce unnecessary force and stamina expenditure 16 17.
- Studies beasts’ movements to refine his own combat techniques 36.
- Unites trained responses with instinct, allowing fluid evasion, immediate counters, and defensive bracing when an attack cannot be avoided 133.
- Later attains such precise control that he relies less on named techniques and can bring out maximum force in ordinary movements 492.
Intelligence and Statecraft
- Leads the Underworld Prison and uses its advisory reports to monitor domestic threats and international developments 7 14.
- Coordinates Devil Fruit acquisition through royal finances, trade, and underworld connections 6 7.
- Sponsors scientific research, weapons development, agricultural reform, and transport infrastructure 10 12 15 20.
- Engineers his Kent Island debut to turn criminal greed and Marine attention into opportunities to establish his reputation 43 45.
- Builds an Exchange House on Hachinosu, recruits powerful followers through combat and wealth, and uses the Pluton Pirates to advance both his own and Kronos’s interests 74 107 108 114.
- Plans attacks on enemy supply and reconnaissance networks, and covertly cultivates or supports other forces to weaken the World Government 122 140 792 1082.
- Delegates routine government to the Cabinet and General Staff while retaining authority over major decisions. Near the end of the story, establishes a broad talent-recruitment policy to support the kingdom’s growth and space ambitions 994 1281.
