Year 56 of Konoha, at the Ninja Academy.
The evening sun slanted into the classroom, turning the dust in the air gold.
Iruka stood at the lectern and clapped his hands for quiet.
"After school today, we're holding a small party here tonight," Iruka said. "So you'll all be going home late."
The classroom fell silent for a second.
"Wow!!!"
Then the whole room erupted.
"Lord Hokage has already notified your parents."
Iruka scratched his head as he added that. Even he didn't know why Lord Hokage had suddenly arranged a party.
By the time he finished speaking, the students had gone wild.
"A party! The school's throwing a party!" Naruto was the first to jump up. He stood on his desk, waving both arms. "There's gotta be good food! Think Ichiraku Ramen will be there?!"
"Don't get so excited, dead last," Sasuke said coldly. He leaned against the window, his expression indifferent.
"What did you say, Sasuke?!"
Hinata sat quietly in the corner. She thought of someone, and her face suddenly turned crimson.
Ino grabbed Sakura's hand, her eyes shining. "A party! Do you think there'll be dancing?"
"I don't know..." But Sakura's gaze kept drifting toward Sasuke.
"Tch. What a drag." Shikamaru slumped over his desk, looking listless. "And we have to go home late..."
"Shikamaru! Parties are great!" Choji already had his mouth full of snacks. "There'll definitely be lots of good food!"
"Choji's right!" Kiba stood on his desk while Akamaru barked atop his head. "Maybe there'll even be a competition!"
Shino silently adjusted his sunglasses and said nothing, though a small circle had already cleared around him.
Tenten stood with Neji, excitedly talking about something. Neji had his arms folded and wore a calm expression that gave nothing away.
Rock Lee clenched his fists, tears welling in his eyes. "This is youth!!!"
"..."
The classroom buzzed with noise. Several girls whispered among themselves, glancing toward Sasuke from time to time.
At last, a girl with a ponytail gathered her courage and walked up to Sasuke.
"S-Sasuke-kun... Do you want to hang out at the party later?"
Sasuke didn't even lift his eyes.
"Childish."
With that, he turned and left.
The ponytailed girl's smile froze. Several friends hurried over to comfort her.
Ignoring the commotion behind him, Sasuke walked straight out of the classroom.
The corridor was much quieter. Sasuke turned a corner and headed for the restroom.
He pushed open the door and found someone inside.
The person leaned by the window, dressed in the Uchiha Clan's attire. The sunset cast a dark red sheen over his black hair. He looked twelve or thirteen, with the faintest hint of a smile on his face.
Sasuke recognized him.
"Uchiha En?"
Sasuke frowned.
He remembered this man. Uchiha En had become a ninja the same year as his brother, Uchiha Itachi.
His brother Itachi was already a jonin, while that good-for-nothing Uchiha En was still a Genin.
And despite his age, he hadn't even awakened the Sharingan.
Deep down, Sasuke looked down on him.
"What are you doing here?" Sasuke asked coolly.
Uchiha En didn't answer.
He simply watched Sasuke in silence.
Suddenly, his eyes changed. His black pupils became Taiji Patterns, slowly spinning.
Sasuke went rigid.
His consciousness plunged into darkness in an instant, and his body went limp.
Uchiha En caught him.
He gently laid Sasuke on the floor, then formed Hand Seals.
Shadow Clone Technique.
With a soft pop, white smoke dispersed, revealing an identical copy of Uchiha En beside him.
"I'll leave the impersonation at school to you. You know what to do," Uchiha En told his clone.
"Don't worry, original. No one will realize I'm not Sasuke Uchiha. All I have to do is act cool and keep my mouth shut, and nobody will spot the fake..."
With that,
The shadow clone formed a seal too and instantly took on Sasuke Uchiha's appearance.
"I'll head back to the classroom, then."
The shadow clone, now disguised as Sasuke Uchiha, waved goodbye to Uchiha En.
Looking down at the unconscious Sasuke Uchiha beside him, Uchiha En let out a mocking chuckle.
"Uchiha Itachi, I wonder if you'll go mad when you realize you killed your little brother Sasuke Uchiha with your own hands!"
Just imagining what state Uchiha Itachi would be in put Uchiha En in an excellent mood.
That bastard Uchiha Itachi had slaughtered his entire clan for the so-called good of the village, sparing not even his own parents and family.
A man like that couldn't be allowed a quick death. He needed to know the pain of losing family too. He wanted to protect Sasuke, didn't he? Then he could kill Sasuke with his own hands.
"Heh, heh, heh!"
As for the other Uchiha, Uchiha En could only leave their fate to chance. However many survived tonight would survive.
Right now, all he wanted was to stir up trouble, earn system rewards, and grow stronger.
Once he was invincible, he could play Qin Shi Huang of the ninja world and unite it.
And if the Uchiha really were wiped out,
He could always marry a few more wives, have plenty of children, and bring the Uchiha Clan back to prominence.
Yes.
Uchiha En was a transmigrator.
After his birth, his brain had been too underdeveloped for the memories of his previous life to awaken.
It wasn't until he was ten, when he learned that his parents had died on a mission,
That every memory from his previous life came flooding back.
At last, he knew who he was.
In his previous life, he had been an ordinary office worker who died from overwork. Then, by a stroke of luck, he had arrived in this world of ninjas.
In this world, his talent was mediocre, and he had never managed to awaken the Sharingan.
His strength had remained at the Genin level.
As the night of the clan massacre drew closer, Uchiha En grew more and more anxious.
He had even considered deserting the village and hiding somewhere far beyond its reach.
Then one snowy day, while passing a small grove, Uchiha En heard a commotion.
He went closer to look.
Three little brats had surrounded a young girl.
The girl had pure white eyes. She stood there timidly, her face streaked with tears.
"White-eyed freak!"
"Get her!"
The three children scooped up snowballs and threw them at her.
Uchiha En stopped in his tracks. A voice suddenly sounded in his mind.
[Ding!] [God-Level Choice System activated!] [Choice One: Leave that girl alone. She's mine—drive off the three little brats and bully the girl yourself. Reward: Dead Demon Consuming Seal.] [Choice Two: Out of sight, out of mind—turn around and leave, pretending you saw nothing. Reward: one Kunai.] [Choice Three: Hero saves the beauty—drive off the three little brats and rescue the innocent, pitiful, adorable white-eyed girl. Reward: Mangekyō Sharingan.]
At that moment, Uchiha En's heart began to race.
His cheat ability.
It had finally arrived.
Without a second thought, he chose the third option. Only an idiot would pick the first or second.
He charged forward and drove off the little brats.
Then he crouched before the girl and wiped away her tears with his sleeve.
"Don't be afraid," he said. "It's over now."
The girl raised her head and looked at him with her pure white eyes.
"Th-thank you..." she whispered. "My name is Hinata Hyuga."
Uchiha En froze.
Hinata Hyuga.
The girl Naruto had rescued in the original story, who had never stopped thinking about him afterward.
So it was her.
He escorted Hinata back to the Hyuga Clan's compound.
Then he hurried home to claim his system reward.
The Mangekyō Sharingan.
After testing his eyes, Uchiha En discovered that their powers involved time and space.
His left eye controlled time: it could speed time up, slow it down, or even reverse it by up to ten seconds.
His right eye controlled space: he could instantly move anywhere within sight or teleport to any place he had visited.
It was even more powerful than the Flying Thunder God.
But his eyes had a fatal flaw: every use consumed a great deal of ocular power.
Use them too much, and he would go blind.
That was why he hadn't dared reveal his strength.
Uchiha En picked up the unconscious Sasuke Uchiha. His right eye shifted, and they appeared inside a commoner's home in the Uchiha Clan compound.
He laid Sasuke Uchiha on a bed and covered him with a blanket. That way, Uchiha Itachi wouldn't know it was his brother.
"Whether you live now depends on whether your brother recognizes you."
"Heh, heh, heh!"
Uchiha En vanished from the room in a flash.
