History

The Uchiha and Senju founded Konoha together. The Uchiha once lived near the village center, but their compound was later moved to Konoha’s outskirts. Their former neighborhood fell into disrepair 38 47.

On Clan Massacre Night, Itachi killed much of the clan while Obito prevented Military Police officers from reaching the compound. Some Uchiha survived. In the aftermath, they blamed Fugaku for failing to stop Itachi, removed him as clan head and police chief, and chose twelve-year-old En to lead them because he possessed the Mangekyō Sharingan 2 13 14.

Under En, the survivors challenged proposed restrictions on their movement, weapons, and missions. En’s confrontation with Danzō over Shisui’s stolen eye helped secure Danzō’s suspension. The clan later regained its former compound and returned there 16 17 20 34 53.

Abilities & Institutions

Sharingan

• The Sharingan is the clan’s inherited eye ability. En uses it to place opponents under genjutsu 2 3 72.
• En, Itachi, Fugaku, and Shisui are identified as Mangekyō Sharingan wielders. En’s abilities include time and space manipulation, but repeated use damages his eyesight 1 6 12 17 64.
• En can manifest Susanoo, an armored chakra giant equipped with a sword and shield 44 45.

Konoha Military Police Force

• The force was traditionally controlled by the Uchiha. En opened recruitment to civilian-born shinobi and other clans, despite opposition from members who feared losing that authority 20 53.
• The reorganized force operates across five districts, with Uchiha captains and deputy captains drawn from outside recruits 72.
• En permits officers’ children to train at the Uchiha Training Ground and learn non-forbidden ninjutsu, while describing the Sharingan—not exclusive control of ninjutsu—as the clan’s foundation 22.

Relationships

• Uchiha En — elected clan head after the massacre; leads the clan’s political and Military Police reforms 14 20 53.
• Uchiha Yashiro — surviving elder who backs En’s appointment and advises him 12 14 20.
• Uchiha Fugaku — former clan head and police chief, removed by the survivors after the massacre 13 14.
• Uchiha Itachi — killed many clan members; the survivors condemn him for the massacre and Sasuke’s death 2 7 10.
• Hyuga clan — publicly supports the Uchiha by sending two jōnin to the reformed Military Police Force 60 61.
• Konoha High Command — attempts to impose collective restrictions on the clan; En’s challenge to Danzō intensifies the dispute 16 17 20.

Story Role

• Political recovery — En rejects abandoning Konoha or launching an immediate coup. He instead seeks allies and public support while weakening the High Command’s influence 47.
• Return to the village center — the clan reclaims its former compound and uses open police recruitment to change its relationship with civilians and other clans 34 53 57 61.
• Rise to village leadership — En becomes the Fifth Hokage, the first Uchiha whose likeness is carved on Hokage Rock 99.
