Power Progression

Background and History

Thor comes to Earth searching for his brother Loki. A cosmic storm from Russell and Captain Marvel’s battle diverts his Bifrost journey to the Moon, but he resumes his search rather than enter their fight. At S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Helicarrier, Nick Fury persuades him to deliver the Tesseract to Captain Marvel in exchange for S.H.I.E.L.D.’s help locating Loki. The mission stalls when the Tesseract is found missing 83 85.

Thor finds Loki with Russell and apologizes for his brother’s conduct, asking Russell to spare him 89. Later, he stays at Peter Parker’s home while looking for a way to help Peter with the effects of Russell’s genetic alterations 181 182.

A thousand years earlier, Thor struck down a black dragon with Mjolnir. The dragon was Knull’s host; its eventual arrival beneath Arctic ice and disturbance by S.H.I.E.L.D. bring the old conflict back to Earth. Thor initially expects another straightforward victory, but Knull’s psychic attacks overwhelm him and encase him in Symbiote matter 185 187 190.

At Odin’s request, Russell frees Thor from Knull’s control. Thor acknowledges that he cannot defeat Knull at his current strength and chooses to attempt the dangerous Rune King path. Russell obtains World Tree Rune Power for him and gives him the Necrosword. Thor fights Knull with both, though Russell ultimately captures their enemy in his Divine Kingdom 191 194 195 197 199 203.

Afterward, Thor learns from Odin that he has an older sister, Hela, whose existence Odin had concealed. He is also caught in Odin’s proposed bargain with Russell: Thor would retain the Rune Power while Asgard opens its resources and routes to the Mutants 204 205.

Appearance

Thor is tall and broad-shouldered, with long blond hair and golden eyes. He wears thunder armor and commonly carries Mjolnir 83 85.

• Battle-worn armor — His dark-gold armor is damaged and burned when he reaches the Helicarrier after the cosmic storm 85.
• Corrupted form — Under Knull’s control, he emerges in black armor with black hair and markings; these recede when Russell frees him 192 194.

Personality

Thor is proud and eager to fight, but he can recognize a battle beyond his capabilities: he initially refuses Fury’s request to enter Russell and Captain Marvel’s cosmic clash. His concern for Loki ultimately changes his decision 85. He defends Loki before Russell and later resents needing Russell to finish the fight against Knull, even while appreciating the help 89 203.

Thunder and Divine Power

• Wields lightning through Mjolnir and can surround himself with divine power for protection and flight 83 85.
