Background / History

Kakarot arrived on Earth as a Saiyan child when his spacecraft crashed in the Primeval Mountains. Hungry and feral after the crash, he killed a beast for food before being captured by the blue dragon Little Kaka. Gohan found him, recognized his Saiyan tail and battle suit, and learned that a head injury had erased his memories. Gohan named him Son Goku and took him to Mount Paozu. 326 328

Goku’s parents, Bardock and Gine, later reunited with him on Earth. Mu Yang proposed that he retain both names: Kakarot as his Saiyan name and Son Goku as his Earthling name. Bardock and Gine entrusted Gohan with Goku’s cultivation instruction, while Bardock focused on practical combat training; Gine and An Ning jointly cared for him. 328 329

His initial progress was unusually slow for a Saiyan, rising only from 4 to 7 Battle Power over several months and reaching 10 after about a year. Mu Yang nevertheless identified him as a rare martial-arts prodigy whose potential would emerge after building a foundation. 329

Goku later trained alongside Chi-Chi under Master Roshi. Roshi’s Kame Style regimen—milk delivery, field cultivation, dinosaur chases, weighted turtle shells, and rock pushing—developed both his body and his martial-arts philosophy. Roshi regarded Goku’s pure heart, diligence, and obedience as exceptional qualities, and gave him a Flying Nimbus. 368 369

After joining Bulma and Chi-Chi on a Dragon Ball search, Goku fought pterodactyls, robbers, and Yamcha while helping collect four Dragon Balls.
