The Dugu Family’s serpent poison backlash had tormented three generations. Although Dugu Bo cultivated poison arts throughout his life, he could not prevent his own Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor Poison from corroding his body. The condition afflicted him for twenty years and resisted treatment by both the Heaven Dou Imperial Family’s chief physician and Spirit Hall’s apothecaries 66 67.

He discovered the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well in Sunset Forest and guarded it for twenty years. Its extreme temperatures helped suppress his symptoms, while its surroundings supported rapidly growing medicinal plants. However, he could not identify many of the garden’s rare herbs and avoided consuming them for fear of fatal consequences 68 71.

Confrontation at Heaven Dou Royal Academy

After Su Chen cured Dugu Yan, Dugu Bo examined her and discovered unfamiliar Pure Yang Dragon Qi within her meridians. Suspicious of Su Chen’s intentions, he planned to test the youth rather than immediately surrender access to his medicinal garden 60 65.

When Prince Xue Xing’s guards aimed their crossbows at Dugu Yan following Xue Beng’s death, Dugu Bo descended to protect her. Xue Xing’s accusations then convinced him that Su Chen might have used a sinister seal to control his granddaughter, prompting him to threaten Su Chen 64 65.

Su Chen countered by identifying Dugu Bo’s hidden symptoms, his reliance on the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, and his estimated remaining lifespan of three years. Dugu Yan then offered her wrist for examination. On confirming that her poison had genuinely been removed and her Martial Soul transformed, Dugu Bo struck Xue Xing, severed his ties with Heaven Dou Royal Academy, and apologized to Su Chen 66 67.

Treatment and Allegiance

In a secluded chamber behind the academy, Dugu Bo offered his service in exchange for saving his life and freeing his family from poison backlash. Su Chen demanded unrestricted access to the medicinal garden, promising treatment, help reaching level 92, and future Soul Bones for Dugu Yan. Dugu Bo accepted 68.

His doubts resurfaced during the journey to Sunset Forest. At the garden’s entrance, he challenged Su Chen to cross the Jade Phosphorous Ten Thousand Poisons Grand Formation. Su Chen’s effortless passage through the fully activated formation finally convinced him that the promised treatment was possible 69 70.

After Su Chen returned from tempering himself in the spring, Dugu Bo surrendered his Wishful Treasure Pouch as a consultation fee. Su Chen then used four Dragon Emperor Spears as needles, combining fire to drive out the poison with ice to protect the organs and block its escape routes. The treatment forced the accumulated toxins into the Medusa Head Soul Bone and restored Dugu Bo’s meridians in roughly a quarter of an hour 72 73.

Freed from his chronic suffering, Dugu Bo knelt and pledged the Dugu Family’s allegiance to Su Chen. He subsequently guarded the garden while Su Chen harvested its immortal herbs and descended beneath the spring, breaking through to level 92 during this period 73 74 75 77.

Service in Heaven Dou City

Dugu Bo returned to Skywave Villa with Su Chen and declared himself the Dragon God Team’s chief guest elder. Alongside Yue Guan, he received orders to protect the villa and kill unauthorized imperial intruders. He also delivered Xue Qinghe’s secret warning about Xue Xing’s planned dawn assault 77 78.

When Xue Xing arrived with three thousand Royal Knights and the imperial guardian Shi Qing, Dugu Bo offered to destroy the force with poison. Su Chen instead defeated Shi Qing himself. Dugu Bo then publicly proclaimed his allegiance and threatened retaliation against the imperial clan if it attacked the villa again 79.

During the subsequent palace crisis, Su Chen summoned him away from the villa. Dugu Bo entered Tai Chi Hall with Su Chen and Yue Guan, poisoned enemy death soldiers, and was ordered to carry the wounded She Long and Ci Xue during the attempted southern breakout 81 83 84.

Dugu Bo is reclusive, suspicious, proud of his poison arts, and sensitive about losing face. Even after agreeing to Su Chen’s terms, he questions whether a twelve-year-old can truly treat a Titled Douluo and devises another test before admitting him to the garden 60 69.

His strongest attachment is to Dugu Yan, whom he cherishes as much as his own life. That protectiveness makes him vulnerable to Xue Xing’s claim that Su Chen has controlled her, but he reverses his position decisively once he personally confirms her recovery 65 67.

His gratitude becomes explicit loyalty after treatment. He pledges his family to Su Chen, accepts a subordinate role despite his Titled Douluo status, and openly confronts imperial forces on his behalf 73 77 79.
