History
Arrival at Blue Tyrant Academy
Ma Hongjun accompanies the Shrek group to Blue Tyrant Academy and initially supports renaming it Shrek Academy. He mutters that Shrek is a good name, prompting Ling Yun to argue that the academy’s existing students should not have another institution’s identity imposed on them 1.
He initially trusts Tang San’s combat tricks to overcome Ling Yun’s higher Soul Power, defending Tang San against the Blue Tyrant spectators. Watching Ling Yun’s Water Shuriken cut through a training stake surprises him, while Dai Mubai’s subsequent defeat leaves him visibly uncomfortable 2 3 5.
When the naming dispute returns, Ma Hongjun prepares to defend the Shrek name again but holds back after Ling Yun asks the group to consider the existing academy community’s perspective. Liu Erlong ultimately retains the Blue Tyrant name while allowing the Shrek group to live and teach there 18.
Captaincy Challenge
After Dai Mubai loses the contest for captaincy, Ma Hongjun objects that Ling Yun merely exploited Dai Mubai’s inability to catch him. He challenges Ling Yun with his Evil Fire Phoenix, intending to test the water-based fighter against Phoenix Flame 19.

He remains reluctant to endorse Ling Yun aloud, but after witnessing the successive defeats, he can no longer find grounds to oppose his captaincy 26.
Seven-on-One Team Battle
Ma Hongjun joins the other six Shrek members in a coordinated match against Ling Yun. Positioned behind the forward attackers, he follows Tang San’s instructions and uses Phoenix Fire Line at selected points to block Ling Yun’s escape routes 27 28.
Ling Yun deliberately targets him with Water Shurikens. Ma Hongjun’s fire evaporates the attacks, and one shuriken threatens Oscar behind him, forcing him to counter again to protect his teammate.
