Background / History
Xiao Wu grew up alongside Tang San. Their shared history extends from Holy Soul Village through Nuoding Academy to Shrek. As children, she frequently used unusual tricks to beat him in practice fights 22 23.
Appearance
- Scorpion braid: Her braid sways behind her as she prepares to challenge Ling Yun alongside Zhu Zhuqing 21.
Personality
Xiao Wu is fiercely protective of Tang San. She protests when Ling Yun injures him during a spar and immediately searches the woods when he disappears after Dugu Bo’s attack. Remarks about Tang San provoke her more readily than criticism directed at herself 4 8 22.
Her competitive pride makes defeat difficult to accept, especially when Tang San is watching. During her fight with Ling Yun, she wants to prove that she can help Tang San rather than appear powerless. That frustration leads her to feign an injury, surrender, and then launch an ambush—an act that both Tang San and Zhu Zhuqing acknowledge was wrong 22.
Abilities & Skills
Teleportation
Xiao Wu’s third Soul Skill allows her to cross intervening distance instantly, bypassing ordinary movement paths 22.
- Surprise attacks: She appears behind Ling Yun to attempt a grapple and teleports close again to kick his shoulder, pushing him back two steps 22.
- Range limitation: The target position must be within the skill’s range; no exact maximum distance is stated 22.
- Predictability: Ling Yun learns to anticipate her arrival after she repeatedly teleports behind him following his changes of direction 22.
Waist Bow and Close Combat
Xiao Wu uses kicks, leg holds, and the strength of her waist to grapple and throw opponents 22.
- Waist Bow: By locking her legs around an opponent and combining waist strength with a burst of Soul Power, she can fling a grown man away 22.
- Distance requirement: She must get close enough to secure the hold. Without Zhu Zhuqing’s support, she cannot catch Ling Yun 22.
- Counter vulnerability: Her post-surrender attempt fails when Ling Yun catches her ankle before her legs can lock around him 22.
Coordinated Combat
Xiao Wu works with faster teammates to create openings for her close-range attacks 22 27.
- With Zhu Zhuqing: Zhuqing forces Ling Yun to change direction while Xiao Wu teleports into the resulting opening. Their combination initially puts him under pressure 22.
- Within Shrek’s formation: She and Zhuqing restrict Ling Yun’s movement while Dai Mubai attacks from the front and Tang San controls the field 27.
- Aerial positioning: Using Oscar’s Flying Mushroom Sausages, she attacks from above to limit Ling Yun’s changes of direction 28.
Equipment / Items
- Oscar’s Recovery Sausage — Together with rest, restores her sufficiently after Ling Yun’s counterattack to move without difficulty and rejoin combat 27.
- Oscar’s Flying Mushroom Sausage — Produces transparent wings on her back, allowing her to take an aerial position during the team battle 28.
Relationships
- Tang San — Childhood companion whom she calls “Brother,” “Brother San,” and “Third Brother.” He identifies himself as her brother and defends her after she is injured, while still admitting that her ambush was wrong. Their attachment is presented as deeper than ordinary companionship, but is not explicitly defined as romantic 4 8 22 23.
- Ling Yun — Sparring opponent and source of persistent provocation. Their rivalry escalates when she attacks after surrendering and he responds with a forceful counterattack 21 22 28.
- Zhu Zhuqing — Teammate and partner in the two-on-one challenge. Zhuqing cooperates effectively with her but later states that Xiao Wu broke the rules 22.
- Ning Rongrong — Looks after Xiao Wu following her injury while Tang San returns to the training ground 22 23.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Tang San’s Defeat and Disappearance
Xiao Wu helps Tang San after his first loss to Ling Yun and objects to the severity of his injuries. Ling Yun invites her to avenge him, but Dai Mubai takes the next match instead. Later, after Dugu Bo abducts Tang San and Ling Yun, she runs into the woods calling for Tang San 4 8.
Two-on-One Challenge
After Ling Yun defeats Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Zhu Zhuqing, Xiao Wu proposes fighting him alongside Zhuqing. Their coordinated attacks briefly challenge him, but he adapts to Xiao Wu’s Teleportation and eliminates Zhuqing first 21 22.
Unable to catch him alone, Xiao Wu pretends to twist her ankle and admits defeat. She then teleports behind him to attempt a Waist Bow. Ling Yun catches her ankle, slams her into the ground, and strikes her into the stone railing. Tang San confirms that her injuries are not life-threatening 22.
Tang San’s Retaliation
Xiao Wu’s injuries prompt Tang San to challenge Ling Yun. She cheers when Tang San initially controls the fight, then becomes increasingly anxious as their exchanges intensify. Ling Yun’s insinuations about their relationship embarrass her, and she urges Tang San not to listen 23 24.
Tang San ultimately reveals his Clear Sky Hammer, but still fails to defeat Ling Yun. Liu Erlong confirms Ling Yun’s victory 25 26.
Seven-on-One Team Battle
After recovering, Xiao Wu joins all seven Shrek members against Ling Yun despite Tang San’s initial reluctance to let her fight. She helps restrict his movement and later takes to the air alongside Zhu Zhuqing 27 28.
Ling Yun repeatedly invokes her false surrender to provoke her, while Tang San urges her to stay disciplined. The battle remains unresolved when Ling Yun fills the field with Mist Veil 28.
