Background and History

Ling Yun and Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village and entered Nuoding Academy together. Yu Xiaogang accepted Tang San as a disciple but judged Ling Yun’s unfamiliar Martial Soul unworthy of cultivation. Ling Yun challenged the contradiction between that judgment and Yu’s claim that no Martial Soul is worthless. After the dispute, Nuoding revoked Ling Yun’s work-study eligibility. He refused Yu’s offer to intervene if he apologized and left 1 2.

Liu Erlong found him near the Soul Hunting Forest and brought him to Blue Tyrant Academy. Over the next seven years, he earned his standing there by defeating students who had once been stronger than him. When Yu Xiaogang and Tang San arrived with the Shrek group, Ling Yun was thirteen and newly at Level 40. He opposed replacing Blue Tyrant’s name with Shrek’s, arguing that the change would abandon the academy’s commitment to ordinary Soul Masters 1 2 18.

After Dugu Bo injured Liu Erlong, Ling Yun fought the Titled Douluo and was taken with Tang San to Dugu Bo’s Medicine Garden. There he negotiated access to medicinal plants by diagnosing Dugu Bo’s poison and treating his granddaughter Dugu Yan. Dugu Bo later helped him obtain the Darkwater Shadow Leopard ring 6 8 9 12 13 15.

Appearance

Greninja first appears as a dark-blue figure with long limbs, three-fingered hands, two-toed feet, backward-pointing horns, and a long pink tongue wrapped around its neck. When it merges with Ling Yun, the tongue becomes a Soul Power scarf behind his shoulders 1 3.

Personality

Ling Yun is outspoken and reluctant to defer to authority he considers inconsistent. He frequently taunts opponents, but his remarks can also serve a tactical purpose: he tries to unsettle Tang San and influence the Shrek team’s decisions during combat 2 23 26 28.

He is fiercely protective of Liu Erlong, confronting Dugu Bo despite knowing the gap in their strength. His dealings with Dugu Bo also show a practical, opportunistic side: he turns a medical consultation into both an immediate reward and continuing access to the Medicine Garden 7 8 9 12.
