After the principal and the teachers left, Tang Ziran and Lang Yue were beside themselves with excitement.
One million Federation Credits! Their entire family could not earn that much in a year.
"Na'er, have you really decided not to go to the Spirit Pagoda and to stay at Red Mountain Academy instead?"
"Red Mountain Academy offered quite a lot, but it's nothing compared to the Spirit Pagoda."
"I like Red Mountain Academy. I can go to school with Wulin."
The couple could see that Na'er did not seem to be acting out of impulse or ignorance.
Lang Yue nodded. "All right, then. You can attend Red Mountain Academy. Once you graduate in three years, you can reconsider whether you want to go to the Spirit Pagoda."
Tang Ziran added, "Once we receive that million, I'll go with you to the Spirit Pagoda to get a Soul Spirit."
Standing beside them, Tang Wulin was filled with envy when he heard that Na'er would soon have her own Soul Spirit. He wanted his first Soul Spirit, too.
But his family did not have enough money to buy one for him. He could only earn the money himself through forging.
Still, that was all right. In a few more years, he would have saved enough to buy a Soul Spirit himself.
"Dad, didn't you say before that a Soul Spirit only cost thirty thousand Federation Credits? Why would it cost a million?" Tang
Wulin suddenly asked.
Tang Ziran explained, "Thirty thousand can only buy a ten-year white Soul Spirit, while a million Federation Credits can buy a hundred-year yellow Soul Spirit."
"Oh, so that's how it works."
Understanding dawned on Tang Wulin. He had never known that Soul Spirits were divided into so many different ranks.
Ah, I really want a yellow Soul Spirit, too. Unfortunately, there was no way he could come up with that much money.
Na'er's enrollment at Red Mountain Academy caused a stir at school for a while, but everyone soon calmly accepted it.
They discovered that innate full-level Soul Power did not seem all that special. She was merely a few levels ahead of them. They believed they would catch up before long.
Once the academy's money arrived, Tang Ziran took Na'er to the Spirit Pagoda to help her obtain her first Soul Spirit.
Tang Wulin wanted to take a look as well, so he went with them.
Holding Tang Wulin's hand, Na'er walked into the Spirit Pagoda with him. After spending these past few days together, Tang Wulin had grown accustomed to some of her affectionate gestures.
Tang Ziran and Lang Yue noticed, but did not say much.
At first, they had thought it would be nice to have Na'er as their daughter-in-law someday.
But after learning that Na'er was a Soul Master with full-level Soul Power, they knew the two children would eventually stand on entirely different levels. There was no chance of them ending up together.
Even though Tang Wulin was their own son, they had to admit that he was not worthy of Na'er.
Tang Wulin had also noticed that ever since Na'er arrived, his parents seemed to love him less. This was probably the only downside to having a little sister.
The Spirit Pagoda was an organization founded ten thousand years ago by Spirit Ice Douluo Huo Yuhao. Once its research produced artificial Soul Spirits, it instantly became the most important organization to Soul Masters, as well as one of the most powerful leading organizations in the Sun Moon Federation.
The Spirit Pagoda's Aolai City branch stood in the city center, a three-story, tower-shaped building.
A three-story Spirit Pagoda was the lowest-ranking branch. Even so, for the vast majority of Soul Masters, it remained a sacred place.
After entering the Spirit Pagoda, they found hardly anyone inside. After all, a small place like Aolai City did not have many Soul Masters to begin with.
And for some Soul Masters, a single Soul Spirit was enough to last a lifetime, so very few people visited.
The three of them approached a counter, behind which sat a Spirit Transmitter in gray robes.
"Hello. How can I help you?"
Tang Ziran stepped forward and said, "Greetings, honored Spirit Transmitter. I've brought my daughter here to obtain a Soul Spirit."
"What rank of Soul Spirit would you like?"
"A yellow Soul Spirit."
"A yellow Soul Spirit costs one million Federation Credits. Have you brought enough money?"
The Spirit Transmitter looked the three of them over. Judging by their clothing, they did not look as though they could afford a million Federation Credits.
Tang Ziran handed over a silver card.
A little surprised, the Spirit Transmitter checked it. Finding that the card did indeed contain a million Federation Credits, he immediately became somewhat friendlier.
"All right, child, come inside with me. The others can wait outside."
"Go ahead, Na'er. We'll wait for you outside," Tang Wulin called.
Na'er nodded and followed the Spirit Transmitter into a room to the side.
"Come sit here." The Spirit Transmitter walked over to a chair.
Na'er walked up and sat down.
"Next, we'll test your spiritual power. Its strength determines what level of Soul Spirit you can fuse with. Don't be nervous during the test. Just relax."
Na'er nodded.
Seeing no trace of emotion on her face, the Spirit Transmitter silently marveled at her composure. Other children who came here were either too excited to sit still or trembling with fear. This was his first time seeing someone as calm as Na'er.
The Spirit Transmitter placed a white helmet on Na'er's head, then began the test.
When he saw the readings on the screen, he froze for a moment.
"Is it done?" Na'er asked expressionlessly.
"Oh, yes. Your spiritual power reading is sixty-nine. Very strong. Yours is the strongest spiritual power I've ever seen among Soul Masters at your level. You've already reached the advanced stage of the Spirit Origin Realm."
The Spirit Transmitter gave a wry smile. "My own spiritual power is only eighty-seven."
"Does your Martial Soul have something to do with the mental attribute?"
Na'er shook her head without saying anything more.
The Spirit Transmitter did not press her. He could tell that she was probably a very unusual Soul Master with a significant background.
"With your spiritual power, even fusing with a three-hundred-year Soul Spirit would be no problem. Follow me."
"We have eleven kinds of yellow Soul Spirits to choose from here. Aolai City is rather remote, so this is all we have."
"That's fine. Whatever Soul Spirit I get, it's all the same to me," Na'er said indifferently.
The Silver Dragon King's bloodline flowed within her. Any Soul Spirit that joined her would undergo a bloodline evolution.
Hearing her words, the Spirit Transmitter hurriedly said, "That won't do. You must choose the Soul Spirit best suited to you. This is something that will affect your entire life."
Na'er said nothing more and followed him into another room.
Inside stood a huge machine divided into twenty compartments. Some held spheres the size of a human head. Presumably, the Soul Spirits were contained inside them.
The Spirit Transmitter explained, "These are Soul Spirit Balls. They contain all sorts of Soul Spirits. Beside them are descriptions and their ages. You can take a look."
Na'er leaned closer for a look. Wind Baboon, Gale Wolf, Ironclad Vine—they were all fairly common Soul Beasts, with both plant-type and animal-type Soul Spirits available.
Na'er still wanted to find one that suited her a little better. At the very least, it needed to look good. If it was too ugly, she would be embarrassed to bring it out.
This one, then.
Na'er pointed at a plaque that read: Golden-Eyed Silver Snake.
The Spirit Transmitter smiled. "You have an excellent eye. The Golden-Eyed Silver Snake is arguably the Soul Spirit with the strongest bloodline we have here. At its peak, it can evolve into a ten-thousand-year Soul Beast, so it has tremendous potential for growth. Are you sure you want it?"
"That's the one. Please get one for me."
The Spirit Transmitter opened the compartment, revealing three Soul Spirit Balls. "There are three here. You can choose one of them."
Na'er reached out and carefully sensed them, identifying the Soul Spirit with the strongest bloodline.
"This one!"
She reached out and took the Soul Spirit Ball.
"This Soul Spirit is only two hundred years old. The one beside it is three hundred years old. Why not choose that one instead?"
Na'er shook her head. "I want this one."
"Then I need to make this clear: once you choose, you can't change your mind."
Na'er nodded.
"Then let's head outside now."
