Ch. 341Xiao Bai
Plot points
- Tang Wulin follows Dong Qianqiu into the Demon Soul Great White Shark clan’s protected territory, guarded by an ancient barrier created by Sea God Tang San.
- He meets Dong Qianqiu’s parents, who reveal that her real name is Bai Xiuxiu. “Dong Qianqiu” is a grand title she chose for herself as a child.
- Her parents recognize Tang Wulin’s connection to Sea God Tang San and the powerful aura of his Golden Dragon King bloodline. He explains that he is undertaking the Goddess of Life’s trial.
- The clan warns that the Evil Spirit Orcas, led by the Evil Orca King, are threatening the sea’s balance and intend to destroy its life. Tang Wulin decides that stopping them would be an act of protection, not improper favoritism.
- Bound by his trial, Tang Wulin says he cannot kill or directly join the fighting, but can defend the sharks and heal the wounded. Xiao Bai explains how Tang San once helped her clan while remaining impartial and avoiding needless slaughter.
- As the Evil Spirit Orcas arrive, the clan prepares for battle. Tang Wulin takes his Golden Dragon Spear and goes to the front, reaffirming that he will protect rather than initiate killing.
Character developments and interactions
- Tang Wulin grows more confident in understanding his trial: neutrality does not mean passively watching life be destroyed. His promise to protect Xiuxiu also shows his growing personal attachment to her.
- Bai Xiuxiu / Dong Qianqiu is revealed as a spirited, somewhat boastful but kind-hearted young shark. Her affectionate reunion with her parents highlights her vulnerable, playful side.
- Xiao Bai is grateful to Tang Wulin and trusts his judgment. She shares her painful history with the Evil Orcas and uses Tang San’s example to reassure him that he can help without abandoning impartiality.
- Uncle Bai initially studies Tang Wulin’s unusual power, then approves of his resolve and invites him to witness the coming conflict.
Significant themes
- Impartiality versus protection: Remaining neutral need not mean refusing to defend innocent life.
- Restraint and responsibility: Tang Wulin must help without letting the trial become an excuse for vengeance or unnecessary killing.
- Legacy and continuity: Tang Wulin’s actions echo his father’s past conduct, while the Sea God’s barrier and the sharks’ duty preserve his legacy.
- Family, identity, and affection: Xiuxiu’s imposing self-chosen name contrasts with the affectionate identity her parents cherish.
