The next day.
Before the morning dew had evaporated, Liu Feng led his sizable group toward the Residential Camp.
White City Camp No. 28, which Yu Guangqi had worked so hard to build, became a "ghost town" thanks to Liu Feng's arrival.
As for the remaining three men and two women, Liu Feng took them all in. After all, each of them had some value to offer.
Liu Feng knew that if he wanted his group to keep growing, he needed more people first. Everyone mattered, including those two provocatively dressed members of the "vulnerable population."
White City Camp No. 28 was roughly seven or eight kilometers from the Residential Camp. Liu Feng had barely closed his eyes when he felt the pickup stop.
Liu Feng slowly opened his eyes and saw the Residential Camp's tightly shut gates. Uncle Ge, who had been assigned a special task before their departure, had not appeared on the platform as promised.
"Han Bing, what's going on? Why aren't the gates open?"
Hearing his boss call, Han Bing hurried over to him, his face grim. He hesitated for half a minute without saying a word.
"Han Bing, what happened? Why is everyone staying outside when we're already at the gates?"
"Uh..." Han Bing swallowed several times before finally blurting out, "Brother Feng, it's not that we don't want to go in. The gates are locked from the inside!"
"Locked from the inside?"
Disbelief filled Liu Feng's face.
What's going on? Are they planning a revolt? But there's only Uncle Ge and a few idle women inside. How could that be possible?
Knowing Uncle Ge's personality, he would never make such a stupid decision.
Then it must be...
In an instant, a face surfaced in Liu Feng's mind.
"Fuck, Ge's in danger!"
Before the words had even left his mouth, Liu Feng jumped straight out of the truck. His feet seemed to skim over clouds as he raced toward the Residential Camp gates.
Behind him, the others stared in bewilderment as Brother Feng streaked away like a gust of wind.
Just as Liu Feng activated the Iron-toothed Insects, preparing to have them chew through the gates, a familiar figure suddenly appeared on the platform above them.
"Gene Warrior, I trust you've been well."
Looking at that ugly, acne-scarred face, Liu Feng's dark eyes burned with fury.
"Long Tai, I showed you mercy a few days ago. I felt sorry for you and decided to spare your worthless life. But it looks like you still haven't learned your lesson!"
One corner of Long Tai's mouth lifted into a disdainful smile.
"Heh, did you really think I ran away?"
"What else would you call it?"
Long Tai chuckled and said smugly, "I never left at all. Let me tell you the truth. I started that fire a few days ago. And I was the one who let that Big-Headed Zombie out!"
Everyone was shocked by his words.
"Fuck, so you set all of this up!"
"Long Tai, you bastard! You made everyone suspect me for days for no damn reason!"
"He unleashed a zombie on us! He doesn't have a shred of conscience. He's not even human!"
"Exactly! I trusted him so much back then, but the moment things went wrong, he drove off and abandoned us."
"Yeah, if we hadn't met Brother Feng, we'd probably have become zombie food ages ago."
"Long Tai, you son of a bitch! Open the damn gates!"
According to Long Tai's plan, his first step was to turn his former men against Liu Feng. Only then would he use his aunt's husband's supreme authority to force Liu Feng into submission.
But judging by the situation, Long Tai's plan had died at the first step. He had never expected Liu Feng to establish his own authority in the few short days since Long Tai had left the Residential Camp.
This man seemed even more frightening than he had imagined.
Long Tai glared viciously at Liu Feng, his icy eyes like those of a wolf that had gone hungry for a long time.
"Liu Feng, you have numbers on your side now, so of course I'm no match for you. If you just kill me this easily, the squad bosses around here will laugh their heads off!"
At those words, Liu Feng's thin lips slowly curled into a mocking smile.
"All right, then. What do you suggest?"
"That's simple." Long Tai smiled and raised his clenched fist. "If you're a man, come up here alone and accept my challenge to a fight. We can only attack each other with our fists. Using anything else counts as cheating!"
As soon as Long Tai finished speaking, protests erupted from the people outside the gates.
"Bare fists? That's the most unfair part of all!"
"Long Tai's got all those muscles, while Brother Feng looks as ordinary as anyone could be. I'd say Long Tai's just trying to rig the fight!"
"Brother Feng, you don't have to fight him. We can all rush him together. Hell, we could drown him in spit!"
"That's right, Brother Feng! There's no need for this!"
Hearing the concerned voices around him, Liu Feng's thin lips slowly curved into a mocking smile.
He loosened his wrists and neck, stopping only after a series of cracks rang out.
Although Liu Feng had no fighting experience whatsoever, he still had to put on a good show.
Using a ladder formed by armored beetles, Liu Feng climbed gracefully onto the platform and stood opposite Long Tai.
Han Bing watched Liu Feng anxiously and said quietly, "Brother Feng, watch out for Long Tai's legs. They're powerful enough to kick down a tree."
At Han Bing's words, Liu Feng inwardly scoffed. He didn't say whether it was a hundred-year-old tree or an incredibly tough locust tree. If it was a freshly planted sapling, even Uncle Ge could kick it down.
As the voices below gradually faded, Liu Feng raised his head and fixed his eyes on Long Tai.
To be honest, Liu Feng was nothing more than a skinny, ordinary college student. How could he have any experience fighting in front of a crowd? But now that he was standing here, he couldn't lose the battle of confidence.
As the saying went, even a master could be beaten to death by wild punches.
Liu Feng refused to believe that he, a Gene Warrior, could lose to an ordinary man.
"Liu Feng, you're dead!" Long Tai stared at Liu Feng as though he were a helpless little lamb.
The two stood on the platform, their eyes unwavering, neither distracted in the slightest by their surroundings.
Suddenly, Liu Feng clenched his fist and charged at Long Tai.
Liu Feng believed that when two opponents met head-on, the braver one won! After all, he had to fight sooner or later. If he attacked first, he might be able to seize the initiative!
But dreams were beautiful, and reality was brutal.
Long Tai saw right through Liu Feng's attack. With a sharp tilt of his head, he easily dodged Liu Feng's incoming fist.
Bam!
Long Tai suddenly struck back, and Liu Feng flew backward as though he had been hit by a car.
