| Heavenly Dao Saint | 34 | Co-established the Western Sect with Jieyin and issued the Forty-Eight Great Vows, proving the Dao through merit. 34 |
Background & History
Zhunti was born in the barren Western lands alongside Jieyin. He later attended Hongjun’s teachings at Zixiao Palace, where he was among the six beings still able to comprehend the lingering meaning of the Dao after the sermon. Hongjun accepted Zhunti and Jieyin as nominal disciples. 2 20 21
Hongyun yielded his seat at Zixiao Palace to Zhunti, an act that ultimately allowed Zhunti and Jieyin to gain the opportunity for sainthood while also creating resentment from Kunpeng toward Hongyun. 61
Zhunti and Jieyin founded the Western Sect on Mount Sumeru to prosper the West and enlighten living beings. Their Forty-Eight Great Vows supplied the merit needed for both to become Heavenly Dao Saints. 34
Appearance
Zhunti’s true form is a colossal Bodhi Tree. When revealed above Mount Sumeru, its radiance illuminates the surrounding directions. 167
- His Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree was refined from a branch of his original Bodhi Tree body. 45
- While establishing Buddhism, he manifested the Bodhi Tree behind him while seated upon the Nine-Rank Merit Golden Lotus. 167
Personality
Zhunti is calculating and ambitious, consistently seeking ways to expand Western influence. He helped establish first the Western Sect and later Buddhism, openly spreading cultivation methods to gather followers, Destiny, and Fortune in the West. 34 167 168
He is also willing to manipulate others to advance larger plans. He released the ten young Golden Crows through an avatar, setting in motion the disaster that killed Kuafu, and later recruited the Three Demons of Xuanyuan Tomb to undermine Great Shang. 77 109
Despite his ambition, Zhunti is conscious of the gap between his strength and stronger opponents. He panicked when Minghe eliminated the three demons carrying out his plan, and he was repeatedly treated as the weakest target among the Saints in battles against Minghe and Nuwa. 45 110 145
