Ch. 141Pinsir
Key plot points and events
- Lickitung, already pierced by Cloyster’s Spike Cannon, tries to use Body Slam, but Cloyster blocks it with Protect.
- Fang Jin sends out Pinsir, whose strong stats, Bug-type attacks, and powerful Close Combat make him the opponent’s final major threat.
- Pinsir and Poliwhirl trade blows: Waterfall meets X-Scissor, then Poliwhirl fires Ice Beam as Pinsir charges with Close Combat. Pinsir pushes through the beam and knocks Poliwhirl out.
- Zhang Cheng sends out Pidgeotto, whose Flying type gives it a strong advantage over Pinsir. Fang Jin recognizes the matchup is unfavorable.
- Meanwhile, Lickitung and Cloyster are both close to defeat. Lickitung uses Rock Slide as Cloyster fires Water Pulse; the chapter ends before the attacks’ results are shown.
Character developments and interactions
- Zhang Cheng remains tactical, intending to wear Pinsir down before using his healthier Flying-type Pokémon. Pinsir’s unexpected knockout of Poliwhirl disrupts that plan.
- Poliwhirl fights with determination but is overwhelmed by Pinsir’s Close Combat.
- Fang Jin relies on Pinsir’s strength and commits to an all-out attack, while becoming discouraged when Pidgeotto enters the fight.
- Xiao Wei avoids exposing Cloyster to Lickitung’s Body Slam by using Protect, then chooses to risk a direct exchange because he still has Ninjask in reserve.
- The battles run in parallel: Zhang Cheng’s side faces Pinsir, while Xiao Wei and Fang Yin’s Pokémon approach a decisive clash.
Significant themes
- Tactics and adaptability: Type advantages and planned substitutions shape both battles, but unexpected power can overturn a strategy.
- Risk versus reward: Close Combat’s immense force comes at the cost of defense, while the trainers weigh whether to preserve or expend weakened Pokémon.
- Persistence and courage: Poliwhirl presses on against a formidable opponent, and both sides continue fighting despite their Pokémon’s low remaining strength.
