Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Qi Furnace or Blade-Binding Realm 992 Retrospective account of her unsuccessful application to join the Floating Beam Kingdom’s expedition against a Demon King Palace. She cannot remember which of the two realms she had reached.
Divine Ignition Realm — eventually confirmed at its peak 889 890 1046 Already attained when she fights Zhang Yuan in White Tree City. The Nether Annihilation Heaven Palace temporarily suppresses her outward qi-blood manifestations to approximately Blade-Binding combat strength, without reducing her eighth-realm physique. Her peak cultivation is explicitly confirmed later; subsequent fluctuations reflect injuries and recovery rather than new breakthroughs.

Background / History

Xie Jingxin once volunteered for a Floating Beam Kingdom expedition against a Demon King Palace. The expedition rejected her, and she lost its trail when she tried to follow. She later remembered little about the incident, including whether she had been at the Qi Furnace or Blade-Binding Realm 992.

She subsequently entered the Underworld-Penetrating Soul-Severing Palace alone. By her own account, she became lost, cut down enemies, and escaped through empty space. When its ruler, the Heavy Spring Spirit-Commanding Demon King, pursued her outside, she severed one of his arms. This feat established her reputation as the Sword Saint throughout the Crimson Firmament Roselight Realm 879 890 987 1026.

Later reports credited her with returning to Demon King Palace territory and killing several Ghost Deities. The Wei Household offered her a Guest Elder position teaching swordsmanship to its direct descendants, but she ignored the invitation and remained unaffiliated. Her reputation also made her an aspirational figure among disciples of the sword-focused White Family 879.

Appearance

  • Eyes: Repeatedly described as pure, clear, and unblemished, including during fierce combat 893 958 974.
  • Clothing: Wears a plain gray dress or robe 974 1011.
  • Bearing: Often expressionless; stands with a straight, striking posture compared to a pine 890 958 974.
  • Signature weapon: A broad, five-foot steel sword that develops intricate blood-gold inscriptions when she releases her cultivation 893 943.

Personality

Xie Jingxin is quiet, blunt, and guided strongly by instinct. Zhao Lian finds her difficult to communicate with because of her simple and unpredictable temperament. She often answers with a nod or a few words, but is straightforward about her limitations: when Zhang Yuan asks her to navigate a realm she has visited before, she admits that she knows nothing about its routes 880 943 1010.

Her simplicity coexists with a strong moral sense. She attacks Zhang Yuan after hearing him threaten to slaughter everything within sight, and later questions the destruction they cause while looting a treasure-filled small world. She also restrains her destructive qi-blood when fighting alongside him to avoid injuring him 889 944 1005.

In battle, she is fearless, persistent, and quick to retaliate. After the Black-Robed Demon King sends her crashing through the Scripture Pavilion, she immediately returns and repays the blow. Even when an overwhelmingly powerful Demon King’s hand descends, she chooses to meet it head-on rather than retreat 974 975 1026.

She dislikes unnecessary social distance. After traveling with Zhang Yuan, she asks him to stop calling her “Sword Saint” because it makes them sound like strangers, accepting “Miss Xie” instead. Her memory is not intrinsically poor; she simply dislikes committing unimportant matters to it 992 1031.

Abilities & Skills

Swordsmanship

Her swordsmanship earned recognition across her home realm and remains dangerous even when her cultivation’s outward manifestations are suppressed 879 890 891.

  • Uses largely plain, unadorned techniques rather than elaborate flourishes 891.
  • Adapts during prolonged exchanges; Zhang Yuan finds her increasingly difficult to repel as she begins unraveling his basic sword techniques 891.
  • Can deliver tens of thousands of slashes in an instant during close combat 944.
  • Cleaves apart Zhang Yuan’s Netherworld Spirit God-Slaying Finger and severs the Black-Robed Demon King’s arm 930 943.
  • A full-force slash carves a ravine a million meters long, although the intended Demon King target evades it 943.

Divine Ignition Physique and Qi-Blood

Her cultivation centers on physical strength, qi-blood, and a personally nurtured life-bound weapon 890 1001.

  • Retains a physique comparable to Celestial Person Perfection even under the Nether Annihilation Heaven Palace’s suppression 890.
  • Moves so quickly through physical acceleration that she appears to teleport without using a spatial Escape Art 891.
  • Manifests blood-gold qi-blood as a protective shield and as destructive power coating her sword 893 974.
  • Burns Xie Guan with her qi-blood when he catches her blade 1046.
  • Forces heavy water away with a ring of qi-blood, though the method lacks the precision of a true water-repelling art 1011.

Perception

She has no divine sense or spiritual sense, relying instead on extraordinarily keen physical senses 1046.

  • Estimates Zhang Yuan’s approximate strength through Divine Ignition Realm perception 899.
  • Detects the power and killing force of a sword that has not left its sheath 894.
  • Notices subtle changes in Xie Guan’s expression during their confrontation 1046.

Vitality and Recovery

Her survival exceeds the normal limits of her cultivation tradition. Damage to a Blood Furnace Lantern-Lighting cultivator’s life-bound object would ordinarily be fatal, yet she survives repeated breakages of her sword 1031.

  • Recovers through external nourishment, particularly heavenly materials and earthly treasures 1031 1038.
  • Partially heals when her sword absorbs a Pre-Heaven Spirit Treasure sword 1003.
  • Regains most of her strength after three days of recuperation and treasure-based soup 1038.
  • Remains vulnerable to qi-blood depletion, internal injuries, and renewed damage to her incompletely repaired weapon 1026 1031.

Combat Limitations

  • Needs a weapon to unleash her full fighting power; her shattered Life-Bound Sword substantially reduces her effectiveness 989.
  • Injuries leave her wielding only Nether Void Realm power during one infiltration and approximately middle Spirit Withering Realm power during a later attack 993 1023.
  • Can sever intrusive thoughts produced by Zhang Yuan’s Beholding Demons, but must divide her attention to do so 892.
  • Cannot overcome the enormous gap separating her from the figure appearing as the Death-Severing Baleful Fiend King, who catches her sword barehanded and destroys both blades 1056.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Gazing into the Netherworld — Her five-foot steel Life-Bound Sword. Its broad blade channels her qi-blood and displays blood-gold inscriptions when empowered 893 943.
    • Shatters into three pieces in Roselight Capital; Zhang Yuan retrieves it and temporarily binds the pieces with magic power 989.
    • Absorbs a Pre-Heaven Spirit Treasure sword, repairing itself and helping heal her injuries 1003.
    • Breaks again under the Heavy Spring Spirit-Commanding Demon King’s attack and receives another temporary repair from Zhang Yuan 1026 1033.
    • Is shattered once more by the figure appearing as the Death-Severing Baleful Fiend King 1056.
  • Illuminating Netherworld — A separate, four-foot-seven-inch steel sword used as a backup after Gazing into the Netherworld breaks during the later confrontation. The same opponent destroys it from tip to hilt 1056.

Relationships

  • Zhang Yuan — Initially an opponent after his indiscriminate slaughter threat; later a trusted traveling and combat companion. She repeatedly protects him, while he repairs her sword, finds nourishment for her recovery, and directs their exploration. She eventually asks him to address her less formally 889 943 959 989 1031.
  • Zhao Lian — A princess who admires her and owns a sword modeled after hers. Xie Jingxin protects Zhao Lian while she installs White Tree City’s defensive formation and transports her back toward Roselight Capital 894 906.
  • Heavy Spring Spirit-Commanding Demon King — An enemy whose arm she severed outside his palace. He remembers the humiliation and later deliberately inflicts severe injuries on her as punishment 890 1026.
  • Black-Robed Demon King — A recurring opponent in Roselight Capital and the Upper Nether Academy. She severs his arm, withstands his attacks, and pursues him in hopes of extracting the location of the Underworld-Penetrating Soul-Severing Palace 943 974 977.
  • First God Cult Master — Clashes with her after attacking Zhang Yuan, then withdraws. She acknowledges his strength but states that she is stronger 958 959.
  • Returning God — A Ghost Deity she had killed on an earlier visit to the Underworld-Penetrating Soul-Severing Palace. He recognizes her during their renewed confrontation and treats her as the greater immediate threat 1022 1023.
  • Liu Yihong — A companion through the Prison-Warden Soul-Pitying Palace and Thirty-Six Hells. Supplies healing ointment for Xie Jingxin’s injured hand through an agreement with Zhang Yuan 1034 1038.
  • Xie Guan — An opponent empowered by Black-Yellow Qi. He finds her face familiar but cannot explain why; no connection between them is established 1046.

Story Role / Major Arcs

White Tree City

  • Arrives with Zhao Lian and agrees to help protect the city from its disasters 879.
  • Attacks Zhang Yuan after his threat to slaughter everything in sight, then tacitly allies with the Azure-Robed Daoist against him. The Nether Annihilation Heaven Palace limits the confrontation to physical combat, swordsmanship, and Escape Arts 889 890.
  • Continues fighting after tens of thousands of exchanges. Once the palace departs and her full cultivation returns, Zhang Yuan feints with the Three Calamities Gourd and escapes 892 893.
  • Later stops a sword strike an inch from Zhang Yuan at Zhao Lian’s gathering, triggering his demand for an explanation from the Bright Dawn Kingdom 898.
  • Protects Zhao Lian during the installation of a formation intended to keep White Tree City safe from ghost deities for ten years, then leaves with Zhao Lian, Zhang Yuan, and Bai Fu 906.

Roselight Capital

  • Intercepts Zhang Yuan’s attack on Miao Tianwu after Zhang declares himself the Seventh Sun-Eroding Demon King 930.
  • Saves Zhang Yuan from the Black-Robed Demon King and fights the demon while Zhang gathers remnant souls from the surrounding Corpse Tide 943 944.
  • Protects Zhang Yuan from the First God Cult Master, then requests passage to a Demon King Palace as her reward 958 959.
  • Battles the strengthened Black-Robed Demon King at the Upper Nether Academy and blocks a Purple-Black Beam aimed at Zhang Yuan, sustaining minor wounds 974 977.

Yin Net Tranquil-Illumination Palace

  • Travels with Zhang Yuan while severely injured, agreeing to follow his instructions and hide from a Hundred-Eyed Ghost Deity they cannot safely confront 987.
  • Enters the palace disguised as a powerful humanoid demon, with Zhang Yuan posing as her subordinate 993.
  • Helps search for treasure when formations obstruct Zhang Yuan’s divine sense. Her choice of a sword-filled room leads to the Pre-Heaven Spirit Treasure used to restore her Life-Bound Sword 999 1003.
  • Instantly kills the crimson flood dragon guarding an earthcore treasure lotus tree, but questions the damage caused by stripping the small world of its resources 1004 1005.

Underworld-Penetrating Soul-Severing Palace

  • Admits that her previous visit has left her with no useful knowledge of the routes, leaving Zhang Yuan to manage their navigation 1010.
  • Finishes a cursed True Dragon after Zhang Yuan creates an opening, and later helps kill powerful demons associated with the Soul-Summoning Office 1016 1022.
  • Fights Returning God and cuts through rivers and pursuing Ghost Deities as the pair race toward a spatial rift 1023 1024.
  • Meets the Heavy Spring Spirit-Commanding Demon King’s descending hand head-on. The impact breaks her sword again and ruptures her internal organs 1026.

Prison-Warden Soul-Pitying Palace and Thirty-Six Hells

  • Recovers under Zhang Yuan’s care and asks him to abandon the distant title “Sword Saint” 1031.
  • Regains most of her strength through recuperation and nourishing soup, becoming the strongest fighter in the traveling trio 1034 1038.
  • Kills Stomach Yama with one strike while Zhang Yuan distracts him; the hell’s ruler subsequently revives 1038.
  • Shields Zhang Yuan from the empowered Xie Guan, severing his casting arm and later his legs despite his rapid regeneration 1046 1047.

Nether Void Death-Inscribing Palace

  • Falls into the palace after a sword-qi attack tears through the upper layer. She asks Zhang Yuan to compare her swordsmanship with that of the Heavenly Army Night-Cutting Goddess, prompting a carefully qualified compliment 1054.
  • Attacks the figure appearing as the Death-Severing Baleful Fiend King after he wounds Zhang Yuan. Her strike brushes the Divine Ignition Realm threshold, but he destroys both Gazing into the Netherworld and her backup sword, blasting her back toward Zhang Yuan 1056.

Trivia

  • Despite her title, she does not fly on a sword. To transport three passengers, she carries Zhao Lian and Bai Fu by their collars and holds Zhang Yuan’s collar in her teeth 906.
  • She later catches Zhang Yuan with her teeth again when their carriage is destroyed, having forgotten that he can fly 1022.
  • She admires Zhang Yuan’s glittering Golden Carriage and asks to learn the ability, but he explains that it cannot be taught 988 1010.
  • Her skill with a sword does not extend to cooking: she can burn roast meat and initially needs instructions to prepare lotus root 1031 1033.
