Background / History

Introducing Minghui to the Royal Academy

Situ Hao owns extensive herb gardens and personally planted Blue Star Dream, a Golden Thorn Tree. When the plant began growing rapidly and attacking anyone who approached, he sought help from wood-element cultivators. Dongfang Minghui instead discovered that it was lonely and frightened by its previous treatment. Situ Hao promised to help her enter the Royal Academy in exchange for keeping the plant well, then secured her a medicinal-apprentice position in the Pharmacy Institute 24 26.

His care initially made Blue Star Dream’s condition worse: he watered it daily with specially refined spirit liquid, causing an excessive buildup of spiritual energy. He resisted Minghui’s proposal to move it to the academy because it had never left his side. Eventually, he agreed to entrust it to her care 26 28.

Love Flower Expedition and Return Town

Situ Hongying assigned Situ Hao to accompany Minghui and Dongfang Wanyu in retrieving Love Flower seeds for Nan Fei’s treatment. He provided transport on his Lightwing Flying Fox and helped Wanyu subdue a Skeleton Bone Soldier. During the expedition, a fear-based illusion showed him and other Light Spirit Masters overwhelmed by the Undead Legion’s death aura 40 43.

Later, he joined Wanyu’s academy teammates and worked with Minghui on medicine to suppress the Living Dead infection. In Return Town, he supported the fighting with light-based techniques, while Bai Rou pushed him to fight with a sword as well. He also treated the severely injured Qin Mu under Wanyu’s supervision 114 120 128 130.

Blade Mountain and the Qian Family Trials

Blade Mountain separated Situ Hao from his companions and placed him among uncanny beauties. Bai Rou found him and cut them down; afterward, he repeatedly fought a dark-type tiger that nearly killed him. Wanyu drove it away and gave him one of Minghui’s death-aura-suppressing pills 147 149.

Bai Xuan later found Situ Hao unconscious and brought him out of the mountain. Ordinary examinations failed to wake him. When Minghui investigated, a powerful light-type force inside him rebounded against her; her Heart-Guarding Mirror reflected it back and jolted him awake. He could not explain his unconsciousness afterward 152 153 154.

During the Qian Family qualifiers, Situ Hao forfeited his match to attend to Bai Rou after Meng Yixiao gravely injured her. He subsequently entered the Back Mountain expedition, where he and Li Yunan hoped to obtain the rumored Lifespan-Extending Pill 155 158 165.

Exorcist Guild and Estrangement

Situ Hao reunited with Minghui while his Exorcist group was fighting Meng Ruoyu. He accepted her battlefield judgment and accompanied her toward Snow Capital. At the guild, he repeatedly discouraged her from joining, arguing that its members could not reliably protect a Potion Master. He nevertheless helped Little Chubby enter and requested her assignment to his team 486 487.

Their relationship fractured when Qian Wanyu openly revealed dark-type power. Situ Hao froze, his Flying Fox attacked Wanyu, and Minghui accused him of never trusting either of them. He tried to send Minghui away from the danger, but she rejected his interference and defended Wanyu 503.

The guild’s treatment of ordinary victims and children with newly awakened dark powers subsequently disturbed him. He refused an assignment he could not fulfill without Minghui’s specialized potion, questioned the guild’s moral authority, and became furious at Yin Cheng’s cruelty toward a child and the child’s parents 505 508 509.

Acknowledging His Mistakes

When Situ Hongying arrived to bring him home, Situ Hao admitted that he had misjudged people, failed to distinguish right from wrong, and betrayed Minghui’s trust. His great-grandfather gave him an opportunity to make amends. Still wearing his Exorcist uniform, he was initially kept waiting outside the Qian estate with the other visitors 522.

He later participated in activities around Wanyu’s training grounds, used purification against animated skeletons, and healed the injured Little Light 524 531.

Personality

Situ Hao is flippant, boastful, and fond of teasing Minghui. He enjoys attention from beautiful women and claims that many girls pursue him, but his bravado often collapses under Bai Rou’s threats. His Blade Mountain encounter with a crowd of alluring women likewise leaves him torn between desire and the urge to flee 43 110 145 147.

His attachment to Blue Star Dream initially expresses itself as possessiveness: he spends heavily on its care but struggles to accept that keeping it close may harm it. His eventual agreement to move the plant shows that he can reconsider his behavior when challenged 26 28.

Despite his comic complaints, Situ Hao is protective of those close to him. He abandons a competition for Bai Rou, worries about Minghui entering dangerous guild work, and agrees without hesitation to assist her during a rescue crisis even after five days without rest 155 487 501. His later remorse marks a change from judging people by their spiritual attribute to questioning the Exorcist Guild’s claims of righteousness 503 508 522.
