Background / History
Wei Junlan is a transmigrator who knows the world as an unfinished novel. She worries that the author’s abandonment leaves everyone’s eventual fate uncertain, and initially avoids acting rashly for fear of disrupting the plot. Nevertheless, she intervenes to save Wei Junyi, whose survival differs from the original story 91 99 105.
Within the Blood Fiend Alliance, Junyi is the intended successor, but his poor health leaves Junlan responsible for shouldering many duties. Her authority is substantial but limited: even she cannot enter the Alliance’s Forbidden Grounds without unanimous approval from its elders 141.
Her early plans revolve around befriending Qian Wanyu and returning the heroine’s romantic storyline to its original course. She contacts Rose House to establish goodwill and later seeks cooperation with Dongfang Minghui, whom she recognizes as another transmigrator 91 105.
Appearance
- Human appearance: Fair, delicate skin, slender hands, and elegant fingers; she maintains a male disguise 89 108 153.
- Early transformation signs: Facial scales and blue eyes. The scales eventually deepen to match her eyes 225 272.
- Beast Transformation: Blood-red eyes, beastlike hands, and sharp Eaglefolk-like claws; the visible changes disappear after she regains consciousness 229 233 241.
- Merfolk form: A vivid, seawater-blue tail, later enlarged following the Holy Ancestor inheritance. Its unusually pure coloration resembles the vanished Ancestor’s 292 295.
Personality
Junlan combines playful irreverence with political calculation. She teases Minghui, complains about being surrounded by affectionate couples, and continues joking even when gravely ill. When attacked by Qian Family servants, however, she turns the incident into public leverage against Qian Zhuoqian and accepts a negotiated settlement rather than prolonging a damaging feud 153 154 225 281.
She is protective of those she considers her own. Her concern extends from Junyi to Alliance members such as the Grand Elder and Bai Xuan. At Blade Mountain, she also worries that Minghui lacks the heroine’s protective “halo” and urges her to survive 97 152.
Her attachment to the original novel initially makes her an intrusive matchmaker. Learning that Wanyu and Minghui are lovers shocks her because it overturns her expectations for the heroine’s male harem 105 142 229.
Although she describes herself as selfish and resents being pressured into remaining with the Merfolk, she ultimately chooses to help them. Gratitude to the Holy Ancestor and concern for the clan outweigh her desire to leave 297.
