Ning Fengzhi leads the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect as a calculating patron of talent, resources, and theory. When Han Tao arrives seeking admission, Ning Fengzhi first rejects him to test his response, then has the coachman return him to the sect after Han Tao remains sincere and resilient. He assigns Manager Ning to handle the boy's entry. 9

He continues to evaluate Han Tao through staged tests: the mountain-gate interview, the interaction with the coachman, Han Tao's use of his fifty-Gold Soul Coin stipend, and the exchange of the Distraction Control Method for valuable research. Han Tao's repayment of his debts and support of others convince Ning Fengzhi that he may be worth cultivating. 10

Ning Fengzhi formally accepts Han Tao as a disciple on the same day that Xue Qinghe becomes his first disciple. He explicitly prevents Xue Qinghe's imperial status from being used to pressure Han Tao within the sect. 20
