Lu Yangong and Bai Hengqiu had come to Connors Star together for one purpose: the Spirit-Devouring Beast.
Lu Xuanqing had been responsible for transporting the Spirit-Devouring Beast back to the Heavenly Demon Sect. When she failed to arrive within the expected time, Lu Yangong knew something must have happened to her.
After investigating carefully, Lu Yangong learned that Lu Xuanqing had vanished near Connors Star. To be safe, he had invited Bai Hengqiu to accompany him.
Upon reaching Connors Star, Lu Yangong used his Nascent Soul Realm cultivation to sweep his Divine Sense roughly over the entire planet. Sure enough, he detected Lu Xuanqing's spiritual energy. More fortunately still, the formidable enemy he had anticipated was nowhere on Connors Star.
Lu Yangong and Bai Hengqiu therefore locked onto Lu Xuanqing's location and brought their fleet straight over. As long as they took Lu Xuanqing away from Connors Star, they would eventually be able to uncover the Spirit-Devouring Beast's whereabouts.
Since Lu Xuanqing knew what was good for her and was willing to come along obediently, Lu Yangong did his best to avoid creating fresh complications. Otherwise, to leave his adversary no clues to follow, he might well have killed Liu Xing to silence him.
Lu Yangong had already decided that once the fleet reached outer space, it would immediately split into four groups, each returning to the Ice Phoenix System by a different route. Then, no matter how capable his adversary was, he would never catch up.
Lu Yangong brimmed with ambition and had long chafed at remaining subordinate to the Heavenly Demon Sect. Now, he could foresee the entire universe plunging into an age of great chaos. As long as he held such a rare and precious Demon Beast as the Spirit-Devouring Beast in his hands, he would have the means to rise wherever he went.
Pleased with himself, Lu Yangong was considering how to bargain with the Bai Family next when he suddenly sensed an immense Divine Sense rushing toward Connors Star from outer space.
This is bad! Lu Yangong thought. That immense Divine Sense belonged to the very adversary he had been worrying about.
A spaceship needed a considerable amount of time to break out of the atmosphere, accelerate to light speed, and pass through a wormhole. With his adversary's abilities, he could easily intercept the entire fleet during that time.
Lu Yangong sighed inwardly, knowing that what was coming would come regardless. His only option now was to fight his adversary head-on and settle who was stronger. He still had a final trump card hidden away, so there was no way he could lose. His only regret was that using it now would cost him something he could otherwise rely on in the future.
Still, as long as he could get the Spirit-Devouring Beast into his hands, why should he fear a lack of even greater benefits in the future?
Having made his decision, Lu Yangong swept both hands outward. The current of air continued carrying Bai Hengqiu and Lu Xuanqing toward the spaceship, while he remained hovering in the air.
"Nephew Bai, take little Qing back to the ship and wait a moment. Once I've dealt with the trouble before us, we'll set off."
After giving Bai Hengqiu these instructions, Lu Yangong transformed into a streak of black rainbow light and shot into the sky. In the blink of an eye, he had reached outer space.
Bai Hengqiu and Lu Xuanqing did not yet know what had changed and stared blankly in the direction where Lu Yangong had disappeared. A moment later, however, their expressions turned to utter astonishment, one after the other.
They sensed an extraordinarily immense Divine Sense approaching Connors Star at tremendous speed. It soon reached the space beyond the planet's atmosphere. At that moment, Lu Yangong also released his aura in full, blocking the path of that immense Divine Sense.
Without question, anyone capable of confronting Lu Yangong head-on had to be another Nascent Soul Realm cultivator!
Bai Hengqiu was shocked. Could this be the adversary Lu Yangong has been worrying about all along?
Bai Hengqiu was deeply curious, but he knew that when Nascent Soul Realm experts clashed, even the power spilling out from their battle would be far beyond what someone at his Golden Core Stage cultivation could withstand. The safest course was to watch from afar and wait for the outcome.
In fact, there was an unwritten rule governing battles between Nascent Soul Realm experts: both parties had to move into outer space to fight. After all, such experts possessed supernatural powers capable of moving mountains and overturning seas. A battle between them could destroy any ordinary planet. Only the boundless expanse of outer space could accommodate the full exercise of their powers without the risk of unnecessary destruction.
Lu Xuanqing was even more astonished than Bai Hengqiu, for she could tell that this suddenly arriving, powerful Divine Sense belonged to another of her grand martial uncles, Sun Yanbo, known as the "Heavenly Demon Overlord Sword"!
Lu Xuanqing could not see what was happening in outer space, but the auras emanating from both Lu Yangong and Sun Yanbo carried the tension of drawn swords and cocked crossbows. This was nothing like a meeting between fellow disciples. It felt more like mortal enemies coming face-to-face.
Doubt and alarm filled Lu Xuanqing's heart. Are Grand Martial Uncles Sun and Lu going to fight to the death in the space beyond Connors Star?
Naturally, Lu Xuanqing did not fully believe what Lu Yangong had said earlier. But if her two grand martial uncles, Sun and Lu, had turned against each other and become enemies, there was no way the outside world had remained unchanged.
In her heart, Lu Xuanqing leaned a little more toward Sun Yanbo. Yet all she could do now was tensely sense the changes in outer space, judging from their auras whether her two grand martial uncles would actually come to blows.
At that moment, only one person on Connors Star could clearly "see" what was happening in the outer space beyond the planet!
Earlier, Liu Xing had left the hills pretending to be utterly distraught. In truth, once he reached a secluded hollow in the mountains, he sat down cross-legged.
The faint thread of Divine Sense released by the Spirit-Devouring Beast had remained tightly wound around Lu Yangong from beginning to end.
Even with his Nascent Soul Realm cultivation, Lu Yangong could not detect that thread of Divine Sense. This showed that the Spirit-Devouring Beast's skill in controlling Divine Sense could surpass even that of a Nascent Soul Realm cultivator. Its title as the universe's foremost Demon Beast was certainly no empty boast.
Even after Lu Yangong transformed into rainbow light, the Spirit-Devouring Beast's Divine Sense remained locked onto him. Through their shared Divine Sense, Liu Xing seemed to have gained an extra pair of eyes beyond his body, following Lu Yangong closely and seeing everything that happened around him with perfect clarity!
