Background / History
Decline and Tang Revival
In the earlier Human Dao storyline, humanity’s subordination is linked to the Investiture of the Gods war. Suiren Shi states that the conflict broke humanity’s backbone, replacing the Human Emperor with the title “Son of Heaven.” The Human Dao’s prolonged absence left humans vulnerable to manipulation by gods and buddhas, and even the powerful Yin Shang dynasty could not withstand the calamity 298 356.
The Tang Dynasty reverses that decline through cultivation, technology, and resistance to divine intervention. When immortals and gods descend with 300,000 Heavenly Soldiers and Generals, humanity suffers enormous casualties but also inflicts heavy losses. Li Chengqian deploys his hidden cultivator army, while wartime research rapidly strengthens Tang’s equipment 278.
The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors support Li Shimin’s revival of humanity and pledge to fight even at the cost of their lives. Li Haoran subsequently develops technology capable of placing Sage-level offensive force in ordinary human hands 298 328.
Nuwa’s Primordial-Era Creation
Earlier primordial-era passages mention a small population of powerful Innate Humans existing before Nuwa’s creation of humanity. At that stage, humans have little influence over the conflict between the Demon Race and Witch Clan 1016 1017.
The later creation account gives Nuwa a much stronger foundation than in the original history she remembers. Her former creation had consisted largely of ordinary acquired beings, with only 3,000 specially nurtured Innate Humans. This time, using an Innate Divine Object and her understanding of Creation and the Soul, she produces one million Innate Humans with Heavenly Immortal strength 1075.
Nuwa remains for a thousand years while humanity multiplies, cultivates, and develops its culture. She eventually leaves it to grow independently. Population pressure then drives humans beyond their original territory, bringing them to the attention of the Loose Cultivator Alliance and Demon Heavenly Court 1075.
Expansion and War with the Loose Cultivator Alliance
Human expansion initially favors unclaimed land and negotiated exchanges, but unsuccessful negotiations sometimes end with demons being displaced. Suiren Shi offers resources in exchange for territory, recognizing that humanity cannot defeat the Alliance’s numerous Quasi-Saints 1082 1083 1084.
Several Alliance leaders interpret this restraint as weakness and prepare an attack. Bai Ming secretly warns humanity, while Fuxi supplies combat formations and Shennong contributes elixirs. Nuwa observes without immediately intervening, believing humanity needs genuine combat experience 1085 1087 1088.
The resulting war causes severe losses, particularly among acquired humans. Fuxi’s formations allow Great Luo teams to resist Quasi-Saints, but their physical strain and incomplete mastery remain dangerous. Fuxi eventually takes accidental control of every matching array on the battlefield, creating a giant spiritual sword that threatens humans, enemies, and civilians alike 1091 1093 1095 1098.
Yuanfeng ends the war and imposes a settlement favorable to humanity. The Alliance must surrender one-tenth of its stored resources, avoid future disputes with humans, and accept Bai Ming as its sole leader 1101.
Recovery and Independent Power
Houtu establishes the Human Sect and remains among humanity for a thousand years, teaching cultivation and providing support. Human leaders postpone their own breakthroughs to concentrate resources on Fuxi, whose improved formations are considered essential to collective survival 1103.
The Primordial World’s ascension creates far more living space and eases the territorial pressure behind earlier human–demon conflicts. Humanity develops a substantial Quasi-Saint force before Fuxi and Suiren Shi become its first Primordial Origin cultivators 1119 1120.
Bai Ze later leaves the troubled Demon Heavenly Court and asks to join humanity. Suiren Shi accepts his request for a secluded residence, but makes clear that the humans will continue observing him rather than granting immediate trust 1129 1130.
Xia Civilization and Renewed Mobilization
Under the Xia Dynasty, humanity develops more sophisticated livelihoods and political institutions. Suiren Shi reports a population exceeding 500 million, but Nuwa judges its military strength insufficient and criticizes its growing dependence on outside protection 1156 1157.
Nuwa orders a resource-gathering campaign that spares friendly factions and follows Beast Emperor Palace rules. Qi promotes cultivation through dynasty rewards and encourages young humans to seek experience outside their settlements. Human–demon fighting intensifies into a broader racial war 1160 1161 1162.
Racial Traits & Abilities
Soul Aptitude and Comprehension
- Nuwa’s mastery of the Great Way of the Soul gives humans unusually powerful primordial spirits and exceptional comprehension 1076.
- Humanity has the highest race-wide soul aptitude in the Primordial World, although exceptional individuals of other races can surpass individual humans 1088.
- Humans have no innate divine abilities, but readily comprehend learned divine abilities and spells 1077.
- Their aptitude for studying cultivation methods and the Great Dao is described as outstanding even across the Myriad Worlds 1094.
- Human souls also attract predators: demons and other beings can consume them to improve their own deficiencies or potentially gain insight into the Soul Dao 1076 1081.
Innate and Acquired Humans
| Group | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Innate Humans | The million directly created by Nuwa begin as Heavenly Immortals and form humanity’s original defensive foundation. They protect and educate their descendants 1075 1077. |
| Acquired Humans | Later-born humans have no cultivation strength at birth and must develop through practice and resources. They eventually produce Heavenly Immortals, Primordial Unity Golden Immortals, and higher-level cultivators 1081 1102 1168. |
| Long-term potential | Innate Humans are described as lacking certain possibilities because they were directly created; Acquired Humans possess open-ended potential and can adopt new cultivation paths more readily 1168 1170. |
Formations
- Homeland defense: Nuwa secretly supplies arrays capable of resisting Quasi-Saints, but these initially function only inside the Ancestral Land 1082.
- Mobile combat arrays: Fuxi develops formations that distribute and coordinate the strength of numerous cultivators 1087 1093.
- Cross-realm combat: Tens of thousands of Great Luo can empower a representative to fight a Quasi-Saint 1093.
- Limits: Concentrating the power in one person strains the user’s body, limits sustained use, and demands careful control 1093 1095.
- Overload risk: Fuxi’s giant sword possesses enormous raw force, but lacks the Dao principles and laws of genuine Primordial Origin cultivation 1098.
Spells, Divine Abilities, and Treasures
- Human warfare generally favors ranged spells, divine abilities, and Magic Treasures over direct physical combat 1184 1190.
- Humans develop practical aura-detection spells and numerous techniques based on their cultivation methods 1163 1168.
- Coordinated ranged attacks complement one another; isolated close-combat specialists can obstruct this coordination and risk friendly fire 1191.
- Shennong’s research helps humans use demon vital blood and cores for cultivation, and demon bodies and pelts for artifact refinement 1160.
Physique and Body Cultivation
- Human physiques are generally weaker than demon physiques, making close-range combat a persistent vulnerability 1077 1096.
- Body cultivation is possible, but matching demons requires substantially more effort and resources than developing humanity’s stronger magical talents 1190.
- Pursuing both body and primordial-spirit cultivation demands enormous time investment 1095.
- Humanity maintains a secret body-cultivator training program, known to its prefecture lords, to nurture suitable and well-rounded talents 1204.
- Xiping Chuixue challenges the prevailing ranged-combat approach by cultivating his body and pursuing close-range swordsmanship 1184 1204.
Society & Governance
Population and Everyday Life
- Rapid reproduction is one of humanity’s principal advantages, but also creates recurring shortages of territory, food, and cultivation resources 1082 1120.
- Early society consists of scattered tribes whose inhabitants largely wear animal skins. Cloth-making remains uncommon despite Houtu’s guidance and Ziyi Shi’s instruction 1106.
- The Xia Dynasty later governs acquired-human society under King Qi 1154.
- Qi argues that civilization should improve the lives of the many, rather than serve only a minority of powerful cultivators 1157.
- By the later primordial era, humanity’s average lifespan exceeds a hundred years, and cultivation is widespread in the world’s increasingly dense spiritual environment 1190.
Resource Allocation
- Human resources support both top-level defenders and the wider population; leaders regard neglecting the race as a whole as undermining their own foundation 1159.
- Children are expected to undertake tasks and demonstrate their value to earn greater cultivation support 1183.
- Great Luo cultivators receive equal basic allocations. Additional self-acquired resources are not confiscated, while collective reserves prioritize helping Quasi-Saints reach Primordial Origin 1195.
- Low-level body-tempering resources can remain unused because suitable candidates are scarce, whereas high-grade physique-enhancing treasures are limited 1203 1204.
Collective Values
Human solidarity is strongest in its early defensive struggles. Innate Humans mobilize to protect acquired humans, refuse to abandon threatened kin, and accept personal sacrifice as necessary for the race’s survival. Battlefield forces trust the elders’ decision to preserve reserves against enemy Quasi-Saints 1078 1091.
Gratitude does not eliminate caution. Humanity is willing to repay Bai Ze’s protection and accept a reputable demon, but refuses to extend the same welcome to notorious predators. Its defensive resolve can also become ruthless: during the Alliance war, some leaders consider any violence justified if it ensures human survival 1096 1130.
Relationships
- Nuwa — Creator and Holy Mother. She strengthens humanity’s origins, protects it, and offers guidance while resisting dependence on her personal intervention 1075 1082 1155 1156.
- Fuxi — Human Emperor, formation strategist, first human Quasi-Saint, and first human Primordial Origin cultivator 1102 1103 1120.
- Suiren Shi — Patriarch, diplomat, and principal leader; helps negotiate territory, organizes resistance, and follows Fuxi into Primordial Origin 1084 1087 1120.
- Youchao Shi — Human leader whose array-assisted duel demonstrates that coordinated Great Luo can challenge a Quasi-Saint 1093.
- Shennong — Medical specialist whose elixirs and research support cultivation and the use of demon-derived materials 1088 1160.
- Houtu / Human Sect — Teacher and protector. Establishes the sect, supports humanity’s recovery, and contributes insights to Fuxi’s formations 1103 1104.
- Tongtian / Beast Emperor Palace — Overarching patrons and regulators. Their authority deters major attacks, but humans must still obey the Palace’s laws 1101 1119 1160.
- Bai Ming / Qingqiu Fox Clan — Allies established through Bai Ming’s warning before the Alliance invasion. Their leadership-level friendship does not prevent every local clash 1087 1160.
- Bai Ze — Demon outsider accepted into human territory under observation; chooses a border forest residence that also forms part of humanity’s defensive line 1130 1131.
- Zhen Yuanzi — Friendly cultivator who selects forty-one willing humans as attendants and later becomes a Primordial Origin ally 1107 1119.
- Witch Clan — Friendly faction connected through Houtu and the Beast Emperor Palace; does not participate in the later human–demon war 1090 1119 1162.
- Demon Race — Principal competitor and recurring predator. Human souls benefit demons, while demon cores, flesh, and hides benefit humans, reinforcing their conflict 1076 1161.
- Li Haoran, Li Shimin, and Li Chengqian — Leaders of the earlier Tang revival, combining Human Dao support, cultivation initiatives, and technological warfare 243 278 298 328.
Humanity Beyond the Primordial World
| Location | Human Presence |
|---|---|
| Shiva Holy Land Great World | Human Dao power rivals the Heavenly Dao and shows signs of surpassing it 356. |
| Three Great Continents | Each has a Human Emperor at the Primordial Chaos Realm; Human Emperor factions occupy second, fourth, and eighth places in the top-ten Power Ranking 356. |
| Skyreach City | A commonplace coastal cultivator city in Brahma Heaven Province’s Human Emperor Kingdom, with Dao-Unification experts stationed there 356. |
Technology & Military Equipment
- Quantum Annihilation Cannon 2000 — Tang Technology’s breakthrough weapon; 100 cannons collectively demonstrate first-heaven primordial-unity offensive force 328.
- Advanced Battle Armor and Energy Firearms — Reach Primordial Origin-level power and remain deliberately restricted to mortal hands to prevent transmigrator infiltration 593.
- Annihilation Cannons — Used by Quasi-Saints to support the defenders during the later Transmigrator invasion 830.
- Human combat formations — Allow large Great Luo teams to confront stronger opponents, but depend on coordination, endurance, and the controller’s physical capacity 1093 1095.
- Demon-derived Magic Treasures — Crafted from demon hides, fur, flesh, and other materials to compensate for scarce Spirit Treasures 1161.
Military Limits & Threats
- Tang’s advanced equipment initially outstrips that supplied to most other human nations, which receive outdated technology 328.
- Technology suppresses early transmigrator threats, but a second-heaven Dao-Unification attacker later nearly seizes the Human Dao. Earthly Dao reinforcements prevent its capture 593 827.
- Nuwa and the Beast Emperor Palace deter organized attacks, but cannot prevent every covert assault across the vast Primordial World 1155.
- Later human–demon clashes operate under tacit limits against racial extermination and attacks on the powerless 1161.
- On the border battlefield described during Xiping Chuixue’s arc, both races agree that Heavenly Immortals must stay out: the fighting is intended to cultivate stronger survivors rather than annihilate the opponent 1207.
