Son Goku said, "Nothing is impossible. Trunks just never had anyone to guide him. There's nothing wrong with his talent."
This world's Son Goku said, "I never imagined Trunks could reach this level in such a short time. Now I'm really curious-my otherworldly self, what level have you reached?"
Son Goku said, "If you want to know, I'll tell you once your fight with Trunks is over."
Vegeta said, "All right, let me test this kid's strength first."
With that, he let out a shout and transformed straight into Super Saiyan 2.
Now it was Son Goku's turn to be shocked. He hadn't expected Vegeta to be strong enough to transform into Super Saiyan 2.
In fact, Son Goku had overlooked one important factor: time.
This world was twenty years ahead of Son Goku's own, meaning its Son Goku and Vegeta were twenty years older than him. Even without powerful enemies pushing them, their talent for combat made reaching Super Saiyan 2 perfectly possible.
Son Goku lowered his head and thought for a moment before realizing this. Then he sensed Vegeta's energy and found that his strength fell far short of Trunks's.
Vegeta must have only recently learned to transform into Super Saiyan 2. Otherwise, he couldn't be this weak, Son Goku thought.
He also guessed that this world's Son Goku could probably transform into Super Saiyan 2, though he had no idea how far he had progressed with it.
After transforming into Super Saiyan 2, Vegeta flashed in front of Trunks and drove a Black Tiger Steals the Heart punch toward his abdomen, only to hit an afterimage.
Trunks's voice sounded beside his ear. "Father, you'll never hit me moving that slowly."
Vegeta snapped angrily, "Damn it, Trunks! You've really gotten full of yourself, daring to mock your own father!"
Trunks replied, "I wouldn't dare, Father. I've been risking my life on Earth while you've all been training here at your leisure. How could I possibly dare to mock you?"
That left Vegeta speechless. What they had done really hadn't been fair.
When they had been weaker than the Androids, there had been nothing to say. But even after their strength surpassed the Androids, they hadn't thought of going back to destroy them, leaving Trunks and Son Gohan to shoulder the burden.
After Son Gohan died, Trunks had been left to bear it alone. Earlier, Trunks had been so happy to see everyone that it hadn't sunk in. But once it did, how could he not resent them?
Seeing Vegeta remain silent, Trunks knew his father had realized his mistake, so he didn't press the point or pursue it further.
Vegeta said nothing either, thinking, This kid's grown up. He actually dares to complain about me now. I'll have to give him a good beating.
Then he went all out against Trunks, and the two began a chase through the air.
Vegeta was always a step behind Trunks, every blow striking nothing but an afterimage.
This world's Son Goku saw that Vegeta was nowhere near a match for Trunks, who wasn't fighting back out of consideration for his father.
He immediately transformed into Super Saiyan 2 and charged in.
Seeing this, Vegeta roared, "Kakarot, stay out of this! I'm going to teach this kid a lesson today!"
Son Goku said, "Vegeta, stop pretending you're stronger than you are. You can't even touch the hem of Trunks's clothes. Who would believe you could beat him?"
Vegeta's face flushed red, and he shouted angrily, "Kakarot, you're so irritating!"
Trunks said, "Uncle Goku, Father, attack me together. Otherwise, neither of you is a match for me."
Son Goku nodded. "All right, Trunks, I understand. But don't hold back either."
Vegeta said, "You little brat! You dare look down on your own father? Fine, Kakarot, let's teach this kid a lesson together and show him what it means to respect his elders."
Son Goku curled his lip and thought, Who knows who'll be teaching whom a lesson?
Then, ignoring Vegeta, he flashed in front of Trunks and began attacking.
Vegeta also flashed behind Trunks and launched an attack.
Trunks smiled faintly and vanished right before their eyes.
Neither of them managed to stop in time, and each landed a punch on the other.
They both clutched their stomachs, their faces twisting in pain.
Vegeta snapped, "Kakarot, couldn't you have hit a little softer?"
Son Goku said, "I didn't see you pulling your punch either."
After taking a moment to recover, both grew serious.
That single exchange had told them that Trunks was far stronger than either of them. If they weren't careful, they would lose miserably.
They looked around and finally spotted Trunks overhead. He stood with his arms folded, gazing up at the sky. He certainly knew how to show off.
Even Son Goku on King Kai's Planet couldn't help giving him a thumbs-up.
Son Goku and Vegeta both launched themselves at Trunks without a word.
They surrounded Trunks from the front and back, then engaged him in close combat, their punches landing solidly.
Trunks was stronger than both of them. Though he was somewhat lacking in experience, it made no difference.
He held the upper hand, and before long, Son Goku and Vegeta were bruised and battered, while Trunks remained as calm and composed as ever.
Realizing they couldn't beat him in close combat, Vegeta and Son Goku switched to ranged attacks.
They pulled away in opposite directions. Vegeta unleashed a Big Bang Attack, while Son Goku fired a Kamehameha, both striking at Trunks simultaneously.
Trunks let out a shout, and an Energy Shield appeared around him, blocking both attacks completely.
Son Goku and Vegeta increased their output, and the two energy beams instantly grew several times thicker.
Trunks shouted again, his energy surging as his shield rapidly expanded, sending both men flying in an instant.
Son Goku called to Trunks, "Trunks, there's no need to continue. Neither of us is a match for you."
Vegeta said, "Kakarot, that's not like you at all. How can you admit defeat so easily?"
Son Goku asked Trunks, "Even after all that fighting, you probably still haven't used your true strength, have you?"
Trunks nodded. "I've been using about seventy percent of my strength."
Vegeta exclaimed in shock, "What?"
Son Goku said, "Just as I thought."
The three dropped their Super Saiyan 2 transformations, returned to their normal forms, and rejoined everyone on King Kai's Planet.
This world's Son Goku said to Son Goku, "Now you'll let us see your strength, won't you?"
Son Goku replied, "All right, then. I'll show you my true strength."
