Background / History

Angel inheritance and family conflict

Qian Daoliu belongs to the Angel Clan, whose generations have borne responsibility for continuing the Angel God’s divine inheritance. After Qian Xunji failed to receive the Angel God’s recognition despite possessing innate level 20 soul power, Qian Daoliu placed his hopes in his grandchildren 3 4.

During Bibi Dong’s childbirth, he guarded the sanctuary and attacked Qian Xunji when his son tried to approach. Bibi Dong had threatened to die with the unborn children if Qian Xunji came nearer. Qian Daoliu condemned his son’s conduct but acknowledged that he had helped imprison Bibi Dong to preserve Spirit Hall’s righteous image 3.

He promised to mobilize the Elder Hall behind Bibi Dong’s claim to the papal seat if she safely bore children with god-level aptitude and raised them successfully. He subsequently raised the twins, Qian Renhan and Qian Renxue, himself 3.

Raising the twins

At six years old, both grandchildren awakened the Six-Winged Angel with innate level 20 soul power. Qian Renhan also awakened the Glazed Divine Fire Eyes, transforming Qian Daoliu’s initial disappointment into excitement at a possible divinely chosen successor 4.

Qian Daoliu appointed the siblings Spirit Hall’s Saint Son and Saintess. He taught Qian Renhan the Angel Meditation Technique and personally escorted both children into the Star Dou Great Forest to obtain suitable soul rings 5 6.

When Qian Xunji later hunted the pregnant Blue Silver Emperor, Ah Yin, Qian Daoliu refused to participate: he would not attack a pregnant woman for a soul bone. He nevertheless left his son free to conduct the hunt 7.

Before allowing Qian Renhan to leave Spirit City alone, Qian Daoliu required him to carry an Angel Feather capable of summoning him in an emergency. This safeguard allowed his grandson to pursue independent cultivation without an escort 12.

Bibi Dong’s succession and the family tragedy

After Qian Xunji’s death, Qian Daoliu and the entire Elder Hall stayed away from Bibi Dong’s inauguration. Huo Yuhao interpreted the snub as anger over her conspicuous rise so soon after Qian Xunji’s death and the drained condition of his corpse. Qian Daoliu’s guilt toward Bibi Dong and concern for her gifted children had restrained him from killing her 11.

When Bibi Dong attacked Qian Renhan over Yu Xiaogang’s death, Qian Daoliu answered his grandson’s emergency summons but arrived after his body had dissolved. Enraged, he fought Bibi Dong, devastating the surrounding land. Her unusually evil soul power allowed her to escape his Angel Domain, leaving her immediate fate unknown 21 22.

Qian Daoliu appointed Golden Crocodile Douluo as Pope after Bibi Dong and the Saint Son disappeared. He told Qian Renxue that Bibi Dong had killed her brother and that he had killed Bibi Dong, although the preceding account describes her escape. Qian Renxue’s ensuing grief awakened the Angel God’s purest bloodline and raised her soul power from level 40 to 70, briefly restoring his hope 22.

Huo Yuhao later regarded Bibi Dong as dead when arranging Xiao Wu’s future, but no further confrontation establishing how she died is described in that account 29.

Reunion and altered fate

Ten years later, Huo Yuhao returned to the Elder Hall. Qian Daoliu recognized their shared blood and welcomed him despite finding his transformed aura deeply uncomfortable. After hearing his explanation, he disclosed that Qian Renxue had volunteered for the Heaven Dou infiltration mission and remained estranged from him after the reported deaths of her mother and brother 30.

During Huo Yuhao’s absence, Dugu Bo had approached Qian Daoliu about the inner core his grandson had borrowed. Qian Daoliu told him that Qian Renhan was dead, leaving Dugu Bo to accept the apparent loss until Huo Yuhao’s return 30.

Determined to prevent Qian Daoliu’s expected death, Huo Yuhao performed Angel Sacrifice for Qian Renxue. He transferred his power, life force, soul bones, and sacred angel origin to prepare her for the Angel God Trial, taking the sacrificial role that would otherwise fall to his grandfather 30 31.

Before leaving the world, Huo Yuhao also told Qian Daoliu that Tang Chen was the King of Slaughter in Slaughter City. With Tang San dead and no Sea God heir expected to appear, Huo Yuhao believed Bo Saixi would survive while Tang Chen remained fallen, potentially giving his grandfather an opportunity to pursue happiness 31.

The following morning, Qian Renxue discovered the changes to her cultivation, vitality, and martial soul. After forcing Snake Lance Douluo and Porcupinefish Douluo to reveal her brother’s return and sacrifice, she left Heaven Dou Imperial City in tears and flew toward Spirit Hall. Her arrival or a subsequent meeting with Qian Daoliu is not shown in that scene 32.

Alternate dream outcome

Much later, Huo Yuhao entered Zhu Zhuqing’s dream and encountered a ruined Spirit Hall. In this version of events, Qian Renxue had endured her grandfather’s death, her mother’s death, Spirit Hall’s destruction, and the loss of her cultivation. Huo Yuhao initially treated the scene as a dream of another history, then recognized his former palace and realized that it depicted an alternate version of the mission world he had inhabited, where Qian Renhan had instead died at Tang San’s hands 197 198.

Qian Daoliu’s death in this dream belongs to that alternate outcome and does not establish his death in the first mission world where Huo Yuhao sacrificed himself to spare him 31 197 198.

Appearance

Personality

Qian Daoliu treats his grandchildren with open affection, having cared for them since infancy. He playfully welcomes their promises to protect him, but combines that warmth with practical instruction: the safety afforded by his strength is not an example they should imitate while hunting alone 3 5.

His devotion to the Angel God shapes his family expectations. Completing the god’s task takes precedence over other concerns, and Qian Xunji remembers him as a stern father who withdrew attention after learning that his son could not inherit the divine legacy 3 4.

His moral restraint coexists with complicity. He refuses to prey on the pregnant Ah Yin and denounces Qian Xunji’s actions, yet admits helping conceal his son’s wrongdoing through imprisonment to protect Spirit Hall’s reputation 3 7.

He hopes time will ease Qian Renxue’s anger toward him, despite her prolonged absence following the family tragedy. His relief at Qian Renhan’s return also outweighs his discomfort with the grandson’s altered aura 30.

In a later mission, Huo Yuhao reflects that Qian Daoliu had left Bibi Dong alone because she was Qian Renxue’s mother and did not know she was the Rakshasa God’s successor. Drawing on his experience as Qian Daoliu’s grandson, Huo Yuhao believes that learning the truth would have driven him to oppose her divine ascension regardless of the cost, even at the price of his own life. This is Huo Yuhao’s assessment of his resolve rather than an enacted confrontation 233.
