[Host, nobody is perfect,] the system sighed. [Even though I don't have a physical body, I still think this great demon king is so scary. The Male Lead really is better. At least with his protagonist's halo protecting him, he wouldn't be this awful.]
[True.] Though Su Ying thought Xiao Muchen had something wrong with him too, he was far better than a great demon king who killed people at the drop of a hat.
Feng Moyuan's expression darkened again.
Looking at the red, oily broth, he narrowed his violet eyes and imagined it was Su Ying's blood. He scooped up a spoonful and swallowed it straight down, hoping to vent his anger.
The fiery flavor assaulted his taste buds.
In an instant, his face flushed bright red.
Su Ying gaped at Feng Moyuan's actions. [He's ruthless.]
[Hiss... is it spicy?]
[My broth is insanely spicy.]
"Lord Demon Venerable, are you all right?" Su Ying asked cautiously.
The heat had scorched Feng Moyuan's throat until he could barely speak. His eyes half-closed, he said, "Water."
"Oh, water." Su Ying pretended to look for water, taking the opportunity to get her revenge.
"Where's the water?"
"Where's the water?"
His face black as thunder, Feng Moyuan watched her search all over the room for water and nearly died of anger.
As Su Ying turned around, she sensed murderous intent surging toward her. Realizing Feng Moyuan's patience was almost at its limit, she had no choice but to sit back down.
"I can't find any water. Lord Demon Venerable, will fruit wine do?" She took some fruit wine out of her Spatial Ring and cheerfully handed it over.
Feng Moyuan pulled out the cork and gulped down two great mouthfuls.
Su Ying didn't dare laugh aloud, but inwardly, she was blooming with delight. [Haha, did you see him? What a mess.]
[Host, you're in danger,] the system warned.
Su Ying sat up straight, taking in Feng Moyuan's sorry state. [Surely not. It's not my fault he burned his mouth.]
Bang!
Feng Moyuan slammed the wine bottle onto the table.
A crack instantly appeared across the tabletop.
Su Ying shuddered, realizing things had taken a terrible turn. She even had the unnerving impression that Feng Moyuan was about to split her in two, just like the table.
[He's so violent.] Terror filled her heart.
[Agreed,] the system said.
Just as Su Ying was about to say something to placate this great demon king, Feng Moyuan suddenly spoke. "Do you have any more of this fruit wine?"
"Yes! I do."
Surprised, Su Ying took a bottle of fruit wine from her Spatial Ring.
Feng Moyuan said nothing, his expression dissatisfied.
[Not enough?]
Su Ying took out another bottle.
Feng Moyuan still said nothing, his expression unchanged.
Helpless, Su Ying took out several more bottles, one after another. When she checked her Spatial Ring and found only one bottle left, her face fell.
[Damn it! What is this great demon king playing at? He's going to empty all the wine in my Spatial Ring!] She complained incessantly. Although the Spatial Ring could potentially duplicate things endlessly, it still had a limit, and duplication required both a sample and time.
Su Ying couldn't bear to surrender the last bottle. If she did, she wouldn't even have anything left to duplicate.
Feng Moyuan raised an eyebrow. Knowing this was the most she could produce, his expression softened slightly. "Black Shadow."
The moment he spoke, the side hall's doors were pushed open, and Black Shadow flew inside. "Demon Venerable."
"Take these away." Feng Moyuan stood up and walked out of the hall, thoroughly satisfied.
He had kept Su Ying locked up for days, and he had craved this taste for just as long.
Not only was the food she made delicious, but her fruit wine was even more intoxicating than the Demon Realm's finest vintages.
Though Feng Moyuan was in a foul mood, he was very satisfied with all of this.
"Yes, Demon Venerable!" Black Shadow swept all the fruit wine into his pouch. He glanced at the hot pot. He didn't know what it was, but its enticing aroma left him itching to try it.
He was just about to take it away when Su Ying shielded it. "Don't you dare set your sights on my hot pot."
The food's aroma made him itch to taste it. "The Demon Venerable wants this."
"He's already full!" Watching Feng Moyuan's retreating back, Su Ying cursed inwardly. [You eat and drink your fill, then dust off your backside and leave. What a scumbag!]
Feng Moyuan's footsteps faltered. Scumbag?
What new word was that?
But judging by her insulting tone, it certainly wasn't anything good.
Without looking back, Feng Moyuan urged Black Shadow on. "Stop dawdling."
"Yes!" Black Shadow reached for the hot pot. "Hear that? The Demon Venerable wants it."
Su Ying narrowed her eyes. "Why would he want hot pot when he's already full? Don't tell me you're the one who wants to eat it, so you're trying to sneak it away?"
Black Shadow felt an inexplicable embarrassment at being exposed.
"You're nothing like that junior sister of yours. If you learned a thing or two from her, you wouldn't be so unlikable that the Demon Venerable locked you in the dungeon for days and nearly let you starve." He sounded perfectly self-assured as he lectured Su Ying.
The recipient of his lecture rolled her eyes, picked up her chopsticks, and continued fishing out meatballs to eat.
Feeling there weren't enough, she took another plate of meatballs from her Spatial Ring and tipped them into the pot.
The scalding red, oily broth hissed and steamed, the aromas of the food mingling together. Watching from beside her, Black Shadow swallowed, and his stomach inexplicably let out a growl.
Black Shadow's eyes widened, disbelief written all over his face.
This was the first time he had felt hungry since becoming Feng Moyuan's guardian.
"Want some?" Su Ying asked with a smile, having heard that growl.
"How does that taste?" Black Shadow asked cautiously, while reassuring himself that this pot of bloodlike stuff surely couldn't taste good.
Su Ying pointed at the empty plates beside her. "You definitely wouldn't believe me if I told you, but your Lord Demon Venerable ate all of this. Would he have eaten so much if it tasted bad?"
Black Shadow's eyes lit up.
Forget it. He couldn't deceive himself.
"But don't think you're getting any." Su Ying bit into a springy, silky meatball. She certainly knew how to hold a grudge. She still remembered how he had ordered the Demon Realm's soldiers to take her Spatial Ring in the dungeon, leaving her hungry for days.
"That junior sister of mine is understanding and gentle. Her cooking is the best in the Cultivation Sect. If you go and say a few nice things, she might make you a few pastries and delicious dishes."
Su Ying remembered that in the original novel, Ling Xian had won over everyone in the Demon Realm with her cooking, getting them all to acknowledge her, a disciple of the Cultivation Sect, as their most exalted demon queen.
"As if I wanted any anyway." Black Shadow snorted coldly and strode out of the side hall.
Su Ying called after him, "Close the door for me, thanks."
Bang! The door shut.
Su Ying crossed her legs and sat there eating with blissful abandon, not caring how she looked. Feeling the heat, she wanted some fruit wine, but remembered that she needed to save the last bottle for duplication. Left with no choice, she secretly took out a product from the modern world.
-Cola.
The system protested. [Host, you've taken out something that only exists in the modern world again. That's against the rules.]
"What are you worried about? I'm the only one here. Who else could possibly see this bottle of cola?" Su Ying opened it and took a gulp. The burning in her mouth instantly subsided, and the thirst and hunger she had suffered over those days in the dungeon vanished without a trace. Her whole body felt at ease.
She thought no one had seen her, but Feng Moyuan was crouching on her roof again.
