Background / History
Shak Kingdom Prince
Wayne is the eldest son of the King of the Shak Kingdom. His father assigns him an expedition to recover the royal family’s Mage Tower, lost five hundred years earlier, but Wayne is so absorbed in Wind Blade research that he misses the instructions. The king secretly provides a Tier Five assassin, Royal Guards, and ten First-tier mages to protect him 89.
In the Desert, Wayne witnesses An Kai overwhelm the expedition’s attackers. Recognizing the sophistication of his spells, Wayne calls him a true genius and would rather entrust Lazell’s Mage Tower to him than to kingdom officials who intend to kill Wayne. Malken refuses to abandon the kingdom’s recovery mission 96.
Apprenticeship to An Kai
Captured at knifepoint, Wayne remains more interested in identifying An Kai’s ice blade than in saving himself. He offers his research talent—and Malken’s service as a guardian—to secure an apprenticeship. His reduction of Wind Blade’s learning requirement to Lv2 persuades An Kai that he is too valuable to kill 98 99.
Wayne, Malken, and An Kai sign a Contract Scroll establishing the apprenticeship and guardianship. Unknown to Wayne, An Kai’s system erases the contract from his body, allowing him alone to violate it. An Kai then reveals that the mysterious ice blade comes from an extensively developed Freezing Spell and assigns Wayne to make Wind Blade usable by Apprentice Mages 99.
During their five-day journey to Chaos City, Wayne spends four days questioning his teacher about Freezing Spell—561 questions in total. He eventually completes a Lv0 Wind Blade scroll, giving An Kai access to a spell his locked level would otherwise prevent him from learning 101 107.
His Father’s Death
Wayne learns that his father has died when the royal nameplate goes dark. He channels his grief into research and resolves to investigate resurrection; An Kai withholds the knowledge that Dong Lin has turned the king into an undead servant 106.
After An Kai destroys Dong Lin’s avatar, the king regains his freedom and briefly reunites with Wayne. He warns his son against the Spirit Infusion method promoted by Dong Lin and identifies heaven-granted professions as a means of resistance. As his body disintegrates, he drives Wayne away so his son will not witness his final moments 151 152.
The loss redirects Wayne’s research toward extracting lifespan from other races. Much later, when Dong Lin’s Spell True Spirit becomes available to him, Wayne suppresses his desire for revenge because the spirit is needed by the Divine Court Sixth Layer and the Divinity Breeding Center 152 394.
Chief Steward of Goodness Home
Wayne grows from a distracted, unsociable prince into a composed administrator who can comfortably receive public greetings and represent Goodness Home before major continental powers. His responsibilities eventually span Good People Island, the Chaos Sea, the Desire Abyss, and the Fate Abyss 172 201 332.
During one forty-year absence by An Kai, Wayne organizes all 99 Insect Realm Passages under the Desire Abyss into regulated “Lower Realms.” Ascension becomes a controlled privilege, and he accumulates 2.345 billion Abyss Energy Cores for his teacher 304.
As divinities return, Wayne moves Goodness Home underground and supports its concealed expansion. His authority ultimately extends to supervising captured deity spirits, directing intelligence operations, and maintaining the population’s confidence during sieges 320 329 333 373.
Scholar Enlightenment and Divine Court Academy
While sixth-rank divinities threaten Goodness Home, Wayne reflects on An Kai’s claim that strength determines whose judgment prevails. The reflection triggers Spell Organization at Reformation Tier Ten and carries him through three Unity stages. Chris recognizes the exceptional breakthrough and protects him from interruption 374.
After completing Scholar Spell Organization, Wayne receives An Kai’s praise and helps Lei’s Divinity Breeding Center overcome its stalled reproduction project 381.
At the Divine Court Academy, Wayne pretends not to know An Kai and infiltrates Light-Taker’s faction. He becomes its leading lieutenant, recruits Goodness Home’s members under the guise of serving Light-Taker, and later openly reveals his loyalty to An Kai. Within the Academy’s White World, however, he cannot find a route forward and recognizes its advancement rules as a mechanism for producing obedient puppets 405 406 411 412.
Final Years and Death
Wayne repeatedly takes charge whenever An Kai disappears. During a later encirclement, he refuses Chris’s offer to help him escape at others’ expense and has his own tomb prepared, declaring that he will die before abandoning Goodness Home’s inhabitants 464.
When An Kai vanishes into the Divine Court Ninth Layer, Wayne reassures Chris but conceals his fear that the return may take centuries. Exhausted and aging, he hopes to survive long enough to see his teacher again—and finally claim the long vacation An Kai promised him 474.
An Kai spends 409 years trapped in the Ninth Layer. Wayne keeps Goodness Home running throughout that absence, but his lifespan approaches its end, making the need to save him an urgent reason for An Kai to escape. By Chapter 484, Wayne has died despite making meticulous arrangements beforehand 482 484.
Appearance
- Early life: Introduced as a young prince whose unfocused gaze reflects his absorption in research 89 172.
- Middle age: Becomes a composed, middle-aged man after years serving An Kai 172.
- Old age: Has an aged face and, later, a graying beard covering his cheeks 382 474.
- Spell Organization: Floats amid warm, solemn light resembling a sage; two brilliant rays emerge from his eyes when the process ends 381.
Personality
Wayne initially values research above his own life. An unfamiliar spell troubles him more than the blade pressed against his neck, and academic concentration makes him oblivious to royal instructions and immediate danger. He is also a perfectionist: when An Kai suggests reducing Haste only to Lv1 to save time, Wayne insists on pursuing a complete analysis rather than leaving regrets 89 98 107.
His loyalty to An Kai is deeply personal. Praise from his teacher can validate decades of labor or the suffering of seclusion. He refuses to survive by sacrificing Goodness Home’s people, believing that cowardice would disgrace An Kai’s only disciple 304 381 464.
Years of responsibility make him socially capable, controlled, and increasingly ruthless. He manipulates Li Dabao with apparent affinity rewards, disciplines Nurnexius through slow, calculated pressure, and learns to treat gods without reverence. An Kai’s influence changes his moral outlook so substantially that the teacher becomes the final restraint on Wayne’s research fanaticism 172 258 309 325 381.
Despite that severity, Wayne takes the deaths of Goodness Home’s investigators personally and works to preserve morale when he privately fears disaster. His calm public manner often conceals exhaustion, anxiety, and the burden of knowing more than he can safely tell others 350 373 474.
Abilities & Skills
Scholar Profession
Wayne’s Heaven-Bestowed Scholar profession enables him to uncover the principles underlying his subjects of study 99 374.
- Absorbs knowledge across professions rather than restricting himself to mage techniques 205.
- Maintains more than a hundred research projects, most arising from his own interests or Goodness Home’s needs 309.
- During Spell Organization, his questions spread through nearby inhabitants’ minds and prompt them to contemplate making Heaven-Bestowed Professions available to everyone 374.
- The profession is exceptionally rare within An Kai’s organization: Wayne is its only Scholar when the Thirteenth Abyss Layer attempts to recruit him 332.
Spell Analysis
Wayne breaks down spells to remove or reduce their level restrictions, making his work particularly valuable to An Kai 99 107.
| Project | Documented result |
|---|---|
| Wind Blade | Reduces its requirement from Lv5 to Lv2, then to Lv0. The completed version still requires Intelligence 50, Endurance 20, Stamina 30, and Strength 40 99 107. |
| Haste | Takes it on as his next major analysis project and rejects a deliberately shortened Lv1 target 107. |
| Flame Burst | Supplies An Kai with the completed analysis during the campaign against Dong Lin 152. |
| Lightning Strike | Delivers the analyzed scroll after ten years of preparation 169. |
| Spell Fusion | Leads analysis work aimed at grouping spells by type to improve fusion and reduce resource consumption 240. |
| Six foundational spells | Brings Darkness Spell, Touch of Gold, Wood Escape, Water Arrow, Mage’s Will, and Dimensional Cage down to Lv3, close to the Lv1 target 280. |
- Removing a level restriction does not necessarily remove attribute requirements; the Lv0 Wind Blade is of little practical benefit to ordinary mages with qualifying attributes 107.
- Wayne knows the historical dangers of spatial research and warns An Kai that researchers have disappeared or been torn apart by chaotic space 280.
- His understanding is not universal: his knowledge of the Time Spell Element remains superficial 398.
Lifespan and Reproduction Research
Wayne’s biological research becomes a major source of Goodness Home’s resources and population growth.
- Other Races Lifespan Reduction Method: Completes nearly a century of research with Li Dabao’s assistance and Blue Star knowledge. Its Lifespan Pills extend human allies’ lives and delay the need to turn them into undead 260 261.
- Abyss-race reproduction: Improves breeding among goblins, Green Demons, orcs, merfolk, and other races, using player-supplied methods adapted from livestock management and selective pairing 241 258.
- Regenerating skeletons: Studies improved recovery and tests Orc-blood “Holy Water” on Gold-Devouring Skeletons, supporting repeated core harvesting 262.
- Divinity Breeding Center: Helps produce the first divine-blooded goblin and expand production to 2,145 second-generation divinities in one day 381.
- Ten-Life Reincarnation Method: Can maintain Lei’s work while Lei explores the Divine Court’s seventh layer 394.
- Limit: Cannot solve Chris’s inability to have children, even after completing Scholar Spell Organization 382.
Administration and Intelligence
- Coordinates An Kai’s territories, research teams, resource reports, and subordinate forces 272 332.
- Is exceptionally difficult to replace: prospective substitutes cannot manage even one-fifth of his workload 332.
- Locates the God of Wailing and organizes infiltration that turns nearly half of the god’s followers within a month 333.
- Uses public appearances to communicate An Kai’s will; one visit to the Loyalty Training Association draws at least a million followers 443.
- Identifies strategic questions overlooked by others, including whether An Kai can remain continuously within normal time 429.
Persuasion and Deception
- Represents Goodness Home before the Human Race Four Associations and other major powers 201.
- Wins Light-Taker’s confidence within an hour and builds an apparently loyal faction largely composed of An Kai’s people 405.
- Uses spoken “Affinity +1” notices to keep Li Dabao contributing without providing tangible rewards 258.
- Sustains belief in An Kai’s eventual rescue during a life-threatening siege, while privately acknowledging the danger 373.
Equipment / Items
- Spellbooks and mage analyses — Keeps dozens of analyses of Haste for comparative study 107.
- Contract Scroll — Signs the agreement making him An Kai’s apprentice and Malken An Kai’s guardian; An Kai secretly escapes its binding effect 99.
- Thirteenth Abyss Layer lord token — Forcibly bestowed on him by the layer’s Grand Lord despite his refusal 332.
- Ledgers and resource booklets — Uses detailed records to report Goodness Home’s collections, including a ledger over a meter thick for the stockpiles of 311 Chaos Sea territories 272 276.
Relationships
- An Kai — Teacher, ruler, and central object of Wayne’s loyalty. Their bond combines genuine affection with exploitation: An Kai protects him, relies on his labor, and secretly uses his imposed Abyss lordship to complete a trial 99 332 444.
- King of the Shak Kingdom — Father. Protects Wayne’s expedition and later shields him from witnessing his undead body’s final disintegration 89 152.
- Malken — Former personal guard, willing to die for him. Accepts service as An Kai’s guardian at Wayne’s insistence; Wayne later firmly rebukes him for prying into An Kai’s whereabouts 98 99 172.
- Chris — Trusted partner in safeguarding Goodness Home during An Kai’s absences. Protects his Spell Organization breakthrough and offers to help him survive an encirclement 374 432 464.
- Nurnexius — Difficult subordinate whom Wayne disciplines, comforts, and occasionally indulges. Wayne mediates his dispute with An Kai over marriage 381 445 474.
- Li Dabao — Research collaborator and manipulated player. Supplies Blue Star knowledge while believing Wayne’s affinity notices will eventually unlock rewards 258 261 333.
- Dong Lin — Enemy responsible for turning Wayne’s father into an undead. Wayne restrains his revenge when Dong Lin’s True Spirit becomes useful to the breeding center 394.
- Lei — Collaborator in the Divinity Breeding Center; Wayne can take over his reincarnation-related work during his absence 381 394.
- Howling God and God of Anger — Deity-spirit assistants under Wayne’s supervision. An Kai’s threats ensure they avoid harming him despite their vastly greater initial strength 325 329.
- Light-Taker — Target of Wayne’s infiltration at the Divine Court Academy; later a subordinate Wayne rejects and handles without reverence 405 411 429.
Legacy
- Wayne’s stewardship allows Goodness Home to function through An Kai’s prolonged seclusions and disappearances, including an absence lasting more than four centuries 304 320 482.
- His independent advancement earns An Kai’s explicit recognition as one of the few Goodness Home members to improve through his own efforts 381.
- His death exposes the limits of his succession arrangements. Guards accidentally release goblins, Green Demons, and orcs beyond Goodness Home; within less than a year, their enormous reproduction rate makes them the Divine Realm’s three most populous races 484.
