Background / History
Leaving Home and Applying to Shrek
Ning Rongrong comes from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and admits that she ran away from home. When Shrek’s examiner asks whether her family knows she has come, she argues that meeting the admission requirements should be enough to secure entry. Dai Mubai escorts her inside after the examiner accepts her 10 12.
Her soul-power assessment qualifies her to bypass the intermediate entrance tests and proceed directly to the fourth trial. Before facing Zhao Wuji, she identifies his reputation as the Immovable Wisdom King, recalling his escape from sixteen Spirit Hall bishops 11 12.
Zhao Wuji’s Entrance Trial
Under Tang San’s plan, Rongrong supports the other four candidates with strength and speed boosts. When Zhao Wuji attacks the ground, Lin Yang carries her clear of the shock wave, and Tang San’s vine returns her safely to the ground. Watching Lin Yang’s fire technique distracts her enough that her support skill ends unnoticed; she resumes it after he calls for the buffs 12 13.
After Zhao Wuji injures Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing, he declares Rongrong’s attempt a failure. Tang San proposes a renewed trial, and Rongrong refuses to abandon the group, citing her father’s teaching about loyalty to comrades. She takes care of the unconscious Xiao Wu while Tang San and Lin Yang continue fighting 14.
Rongrong is the only candidate left unscathed when the renewed trial ends. She reminds Zhao Wuji that the incense has burned out, prompting him to confirm that everyone has passed. Afterward, she carries Xiao Wu to the students’ accommodations 16 17.
First Day at Shrek
At breakfast, Rongrong invites the others to use her familiar name and asks permission to call Lin Yang “Brother Yang.” Flender subsequently singles her and Oscar out for support-type training 18.
Lin Yang challenges Flender’s emphasis on escape, arguing that combatants must protect the support Soul Masters who enhance them. Rongrong recognizes this as the mutually dependent relationship practiced by her sect. She nevertheless reminds Lin Yang that her father also requires physical exercise. Flender agrees to revise the training plans, then sends her and Oscar to run a lap 19.
Appearance
- Hair: Ear-length hair framing a sweet-looking face 10.
- Clothing: A white dress during registration at Shrek 10.
- Facial features: Large eyes and two dimples visible when she smiles 12 18.
- Voice: Soft and sweet during her initial exchange with the entrance examiner 10.
Personality
Rongrong initially presents herself as ladylike and sweet, but she is willing to assert herself. She challenges the examiner’s hesitation over admitting her and confidently requests an exemption from the intermediate tests. Her sheltered upbringing also leaves her unused to refusal: Lin Yang’s unwillingness to explain his Sharingan immediately irritates her 10 11 12.
She is curious and outgoing, asking about unfamiliar martial souls and quickly adopting friendly forms of address. Her concern for others appears in practical gestures, including caring for Xiao Wu and offering to help the exhausted Lin Yang walk 12 16 17 18.
Her loyalty is explicit during the entrance trial. Rather than accept success at her teammates’ expense, she is prepared to leave Shrek with them if the renewed challenge fails 14.
