Background / History

Chen Nan was resurrected from the Tomb of the Gods after ten thousand years. The gods and demons of his era had perished, leaving him in an unfamiliar world whose common language he could not understand. He left the Gravekeeper and entered a small town, where a passing Taoist sensed an unusual aura from him. 97

Before his death, Chen Nan was the gifted young master of a Martial Artist family. His father, Chen Zhan, taught him to be wary of cultivators and described the Martial Artist path toward the Immortal Martial Realm. Chen Nan's talent later declined severely after he practiced a strange technique passed to him by Tantai Xuan; he lost his innate spiritual sense and endured years of mockery and stalled cultivation. 97 137

He remained burdened by the death of Yu Xin, the person he regretted never telling that he loved. Overwhelmed by grief and a True Qi deviation, he collapsed in the rain at Tian Yuan Town. Gu Da Niang took him into her home, gave him clean clothes and shelter, and invited him to stay while he recovered. 97

Chen Nan met Gu Da Niang's son, Bai He, and spent nearly half a year learning the Tian Yuan Continent's common language from him. The two became close enough to address one another as brothers. Chen Nan joined Bai He's hunting team, bought a courtyard beside Bai He's, and searched local records for information on the God and Devil Cemetery. 98

In gratitude for Gu Da Niang's hospitality and Bai He's friendship, Chen Nan taught Bai He his Family Mystic Skill, later identified as the Summoning Devil Scripture. He accepted Bai He as a disciple on behalf of his father while insisting that they remain friends on equal footing. 98 99

Appearance

Chen Nan is generally described as an ordinary-faced young man. After his resurrection, he is pale and physically weakened; during his time in the Chu Kingdom, he commonly wears brown-yellow clothing. 97 139

  • Ordinary, unremarkable facial features that often cause others to underestimate him. 97 148
  • Brown-yellow attire while accompanying Nalan Ruoshui in Pingyang City. 139
  • Can assume the form of a golden Divine Dragon through Dragon Transformation. 131

Personality

Chen Nan is polite, sincere, and deeply appreciative of kindness. Though isolated by the ten-thousand-year gap between himself and the present era, he repays Gu Da Niang's rescue by treating her home respectfully and later offers Bai He his family's inheritance. 97 98

His past makes him melancholic and prone to dwelling on loss, particularly Yu Xin and Tantai Xuan. However, he is also resolute: when his cultivation fails again, he willingly agrees to have his True Qi dissolved rather than accept a life without progress. 97 137

He becomes fiercely protective of Nalan Ruoshui after learning of her arranged marriage to Sima Lingkong. This resolve pushes him to stop concealing his strength, enter the Dragon Knight competition, and ultimately disrupt the wedding despite the consequences to his reputation. 142 143 150

Abilities & Skills

Family Mystic Skill / Summoning Devil Scripture

Chen Nan's inherited martial art contains a cultivation outline, circulation routes, and numerous powerful martial techniques. Its path emphasizes the joint cultivation of essence, Qi, and spirit toward the Immortal Martial Realm. 98

  • Reached Third Order and gained the ability to release True Qi beyond his body. 143
  • Can produce golden Spear Radiance through a steel spear. 148
  • The scripture is associated with gathering fragmented soul power connected to the Chen bloodline. 99
  • Chen Nan initially lacked the cultivation to demonstrate all of its recorded martial techniques to Bai He. 98

Dragon Transformation

Chen Nan can transform into a golden Divine Dragon, dramatically increasing his combat power. 131

  • Used Dragon Transformation against Chu Han's Dragon Descendant Martial Spirit and defeated him in their martial-arts competition. 131
  • The transformation is considered dangerous because losing control can turn the user into a killing monster. 131

Martial Skill and Combat Talent

Even at First Order, Chen Nan was an exceptional hunter and the most capable member of Bai He's team after Bai He himself. 98

  • Defeated Chu Han to become champion of an imperial martial-arts competition. 131

  • Yu Xin — Deceased love and Chen Nan's lasting regret; he never told her that he loved her. 97

  • Nalan Ruoshui — A woman Chen Nan wishes to protect from her arranged marriage to Sima Lingkong. His feelings for her motivate his return to open cultivation and his disruption of the wedding. 142 149 150
  • Sima Lingkong — Rival and Nalan Ruoshui's intended husband. Chen Nan opposed him in defense of Nalan Ruoshui and defeated him at the wedding. 140 150
