Background / History

Nine Provinces and the Realm of Longevity

Xiao Chen travelled toward Mount Kunlun while being pursued by Zhao Lin'er and other cultivators. Injured after being chased for thousands of miles, he sought refuge in a Black Mountain temple but intended to leave alone rather than endanger its inhabitants. 6

Bai He encountered him at the temple and persistently requested to become his disciple. Xiao Chen initially refused, judging himself insufficiently qualified to teach and warning Bai He that following him would be dangerous. He nevertheless came to accept Bai He's resolve; after both crossed through Lan Nuo's shattered void and arrived on Dragon Island, Xiao Chen formally acknowledged Bai He as his disciple. 7 8

On the island, Xiao Chen gave Bai He food and water, then passed down the incomplete Heavenly Tablet Mystic Skill so his disciple could protect himself. He continued healing the injuries sustained during his flight from Zhao Lin'er while gathering Heaven and Earth Essence each day. 8 9 13

Dragon Island

Xiao Chen and Bai He survived Dragon Island's dangers together, including the arrival of cultivators from the Realm of Longevity, the Eight-Armed Evil Dragon, and struggles over Dragon Eggs. Xiao Chen rejected Bai He's proposal to abandon their shelter merely because unknown ships had approached, arguing that fleeing a secure position over an uncertain threat was irrational. 14

After Bai He was separated from him, Xiao Chen pursued the attackers, killed Wang Zifeng, and later killed Liu Yue in retaliation for Bai He. He reunited with his disciple through Monk Yi Zhen's Tooth Whistle. 41 42

Xiao Chen helped steal Dragon Eggs from the Dragon Race Holy Mountain and fled west with Bai He and their companions to the Snow Mountains. When hundreds of cultivators later demanded the eggs, he absorbed Life Essence from a Black Jade Dragon Egg, achieved an enlightenment-driven breakthrough, and fought the besiegers alone. 64 66 67

Later Developments

At a later point, Xiao Chen integrated the Eight-Armed Evil Dragon Soul within his Inner Heaven and Earth, reaching the peak of the Fourth Order. He subsequently projected Liang Bing and directed her to destroy the Hidden Gods Faction's Luo Tian Grand Ritual, preventing its leader from using the ritual to control the Human Race. 386
