Everyone in the convoy went pale when they heard the Golden Armored Zombie's roar.
They could tell at once that the roar had come from somewhere fairly far away.
Although there was still some distance between them, everyone knew that any Anomalies whose roar could carry that far was no ordinary creature!
There was no doubt about that!
"What the hell is that thing?!" Chu Sheng's expression changed too. He was no longer as reckless as he had been when he rammed the eyeball Anomalies to death.
"Don't panic. We'll be fine." Beside him, Captain Hui looked grim, but his body relaxed a little, though he remained tense.
"Just keep driving forward. Ignore everything else. If anything blocks the road, ram straight through it!"
Chu Sheng looked at him in disbelief, but remembering his Sequence ability, he gritted his teeth and nodded. "All right!"
As a Sequence Adept of the Eight Trigrams, Captain Hui could do more than act as a guide. He could also divine fortune and danger.
The pickup raced down the expressway, its speed already exceeding two hundred kilometers per hour.
The dozen or so vehicles following it were gradually falling behind.
But Zhu Qing's, An Xi's, and Old Man Li's vehicles were still keeping close.
Most vehicle speedometers topped out at 230 or 240, but many foreign-brand vehicles had a default speed limit of 180 kilometers per hour. Some domestic cars lacked that restriction, but their default settings still only allowed them to go a little over 200.
Chu Sheng's pickup, however, had been upgraded entirely by him. Default speed limits simply did not exist in his vehicle.
And because of those limits, the vehicles right behind the pickup began falling back.
In the mountain forest ahead to their right, the Golden Armored Zombie was rapidly closing in on them.
Another Anomalies moving with ghostly agility was near the Golden Armored Zombie, while several more Anomalies were converging from ahead to the left.
The scenery outside the windows flew backward. In the scarlet world Chu Sheng saw, two columns of black energy towering into the sky appeared within a kilometer of him.
Besides those two exceptionally powerful masses of black energy, several others appeared nearby, comparable in strength to the eyeball Anomalies he had rammed away earlier.
The pickup roared wildly. Its body groaned again as though it were about to fall apart, and all four tires turned into pig trotters once more.
Its speed tripled!
Its speed shot straight from 216 to 648 kilometers per hour.
The crushing force pressed them back into their seats again. Captain Hui was pinned firmly against the backrest, unable to make out any of the surrounding scenery.
Even though Captain Hui's body had been strengthened when his Sequence awakened, his eyes could no longer keep up with the scenery hurtling backward. Even the road ahead flashed past the instant he saw it, leaving him no time to react.
The windshield made a series of cracking sounds. Captain Hui noticed that it seemed unable to withstand the tremendous speed and air resistance, and cracks were beginning to form.
Fortunately, there were not many cracks. Although they were still spreading, the glass could hold out a while longer.
His right hand continued making divination gestures, his feet braced firmly in front of him, and his left hand clutched the seat belt across his chest. Turning his head, he took a long look at Chu Sheng, whose eyes were fixed ahead, an eerie red glow radiating from his pupils. Captain Hui trembled all over.
He had only ever experienced this kind of speed on a plane!
648 kilometers per hour. 648 kilometers per hour!
That was 180 meters per second!
Not even a high-speed train could catch him at this speed!
The highest recorded speed for a high-speed train was only 605 kilometers per hour, and even that was experimental data from a noncommercial run.
Chu Sheng kept his eyes locked ahead. By now, the pickup was driving right alongside the expressway's central barrier.
If Human Eyes, Cat Pupils had not greatly improved both his vision and his ability to track moving objects, he would probably have crashed and died by now.
Though the pickup's body and windshield were both groaning, they were still holding together.
Just as Chu Sheng was concentrating on the road ahead, he suddenly saw a streak of golden light flash past beside him.
But before he could get a clear look, the pickup had already left it behind.
The moment Chu Sheng's pickup tires turned into pig trotters, Zhu Qing behind him and An Xi standing on the roof both saw it. They instantly realized that Anomalies had appeared!
An Xi stood on the roof, once again bracing the Black Jade Bone Spear against it for support. In her hand was a single sun marking.
It was a supernatural material dropped by the Anomalies Chu Sheng had rammed to death, which An Xi had retrieved.
"More Anomalies are coming."
An Xi stood on the roof without any intention of getting inside.
The White Tiger Sequence made her fearless against any mental attack, and standing on the roof gave her a better view of their surroundings.
Whenever the convoy fled in the past, she had always protected it from the roof like this.
While she was still looking around, the pickup with pig trotters for tires shot forward. Apparently, Chu Sheng had not held the steering wheel firmly enough, because the vehicle pressed right against the guardrail and sped ahead along it.
In just two or three seconds, the entire pickup had dwindled to a tiny black dot.
At that moment, An Xi also spotted the Golden Armored Zombie bounding through the air toward them, clad in golden armor that gleamed in the sunlight.
With every leap, the Golden Armored Zombie closed the distance by over a hundred meters.
An Xi's expression changed when she saw the Golden Armored Zombie from the roof. She immediately crouched and thrust the Black Jade Bone Spear through the roof into the cabin. Then, gripping the shaft with her left hand, she heaved herself over and swung down into the front passenger seat.
"Quick! Drive as fast as you can!"
An Xi would not have feared an ordinary Anomalies.
But she felt that zombies were best left alone.
When they encountered that Ironclad Zombie before, even she and Zhu Qing together had been unable to pierce its defenses.
Although her weapon back then had only been an ordinary spear, she had still imbued it with the Geng Metal Power of her White Tiger Sequence!
Yet even that had failed to pierce its defenses!
Her weapon had been upgraded now, but she reckoned she probably still could not penetrate a Golden Armored Zombie's defenses.
She had never seen a Golden Armored Zombie, but she had seen an Ironclad Zombie. The creature ahead was clad in golden armor, with a blue-green face and protruding fangs, and moved by hopping. It was clearly a zombie.
And with a zombie looking like that, one glance at its golden armor told her what it was.
A Xin was driving, and her expression changed at An Xi's words.
She had known An Xi for quite some time and understood her personality perfectly. Anything that could make her react like this had to be something they could not handle.
But when she realized the accelerator would not go down any farther, A Xin's entire face turned ashen.
The speedometer read 203.
The car had already reached its limit.
"Xixi, I can't! We're already at top speed!"
An Xi was not surprised. She merely reached out the window, and with a thought, the Black Jade Bone Spear, which had pierced into the cabin with only a short section left above the roof, flew out through the roof and into her hand.
Although she did not want to provoke the Golden Armored Zombie, if a confrontation truly could not be avoided, she would not surrender without a fight.
