"ROAR!! ROAR! ROAR!!!" Up ahead, the Golden Armored Zombie sensed a delicious morsel dart away beneath it and let out several furious roars.
It wanted to turn around and give chase, but sensing the abundant, delectable life energy ahead, it kept leaping forward instead.
Sitting inside the vehicle, Zhu Qing watched the Golden Armored Zombie leap toward him, his expression shifting with alarm. He wore a pair of black Gloves with sharp blades on their backs and both sides, ready to fight at any moment.
The Golden Armored Zombie dropped out of the air and landed squarely on the roof of Zhu Qing's Off-Road Vehicle, smashing a deep dent into it. One foot even punched straight into the cabin.
Seeing this, Zhu Qing rose and braced both hands against the sole of the Golden Armored Zombie's shoe from below. Then he heaved, veins bulging all over his body, and shoved its foot back up.
His immense strength even made the Golden Armored Zombie stagger on the roof, nearly falling off.
Through the hole stomped into the roof, Zhu Qing saw that the Golden Armored Zombie was still up there and said, "Just keep driving. I'll get this damn thing off!"
With that, he started climbing out through the window.
But at that very moment, An Xi, following close behind their vehicle, seized the opening as the Golden Armored Zombie staggered. She leaned halfway out of the window and flung her Spear. Infused with Geng Metal Power, the Black Jade Bone Spear shone with pale golden light as it flew straight toward the Golden Armored Zombie.
Clang!
The tip of the pale-gold Black Jade Bone Spear struck the Golden Armored Zombie's body, producing nothing but the ringing clash of metal before bouncing away.
With another thought from An Xi, the Black Jade Bone Spear flipped over in midair and returned to her hand.
Although the attack had failed to pierce the Golden Armored Zombie's defenses, its force knocked the creature off Zhu Qing's roof and onto the road beside them.
The vehicles were traveling at just over 200 kilometers per hour. That was no match for Chu Sheng's 648 kilometers per hour, but it still amounted to more than fifty meters per second.
As the Golden Armored Zombie fell from the roof, An Xi and Old Man Li's vehicle swept past it. Two more vehicles followed, putting more and more distance between themselves and the creature.
Only after four or five seconds did the Golden Armored Zombie rise eerily from the ground. By then, An Xi and the others were already two or three hundred meters away.
And only then did the vehicles lagging behind happen to pass beside the Golden Armored Zombie.
Seven or eight people were crammed inside one vehicle, with another three or four lying on its roof. Behind it, two people bold enough to trust their skills had tied themselves to the rear with ropes, riding skateboards as the vehicle towed them along.
They had spotted the Golden Armored Zombie from a distance, but there was only one road. They had no choice but to pass it.
None of them dared breathe. They were just about to make it past the Golden Armored Zombie.
Then they saw it stand up.
They began to tremble.
The Golden Armored Zombie roared. Its sightless eyes seemed like abysses as it charged straight into their vehicle.
With a body capable of leaping over a hundred meters in a single bound, its strength needed no explanation.
One charge sent the entire vehicle slamming into the guardrail. The two people tied to its rear were hurled away, only to be yanked back by their ropes after flying a short distance.
The tremendous momentum made their spines crack amid their screams.
Crack!
Their spines snapped, and the force killed them outright. The Golden Armored Zombie's impact sent the vehicle flying off the ground, even tearing a gap through the guardrail.
The people lying on the roof had been secured there with ropes. As the vehicle rolled, the impacts killed them outright, shattering their internal organs.
Their ribs snapped as well, piercing through their skin and protruding from their bodies. Along with the two people tied to the rear, they sprayed blood everywhere.
"ROAR!" Sensing the scent of blood, the Golden Armored Zombie roared excitedly, leaped over to the overturned vehicle, and began to feast.
Everyone in the vehicles behind it trembled at the sight, wishing their cars had a few extra engines.
Fortunately, the Golden Armored Zombie began feeding as soon as it overturned that vehicle, allowing them to pass with a fright but no harm.
As the Golden Armored Zombie grew more distant in their rearview mirrors, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Zhou Dun had given all his food and supplies as payment to get himself and his two younger sisters into the Wu Siblings' vehicle.
"That scared me to death!" Wu Jie patted his chest, gulping down air.
The moment the Golden Armored Zombie stood up, he had instinctively held his breath. Only now, when it became unbearable, did he start breathing again.
Wu Meng drove, every bit as shaken.
They had been in the second vehicle!
God only knew how terrified they had been when the Golden Armored Zombie overturned the vehicle right in front of them!
"We should be safe now, right?" Li Qian asked, her face full of panic.
"We should be safe now, right?" Zhou Dun sounded uncertain. His hands were buried in his pockets, tightly clutching the three supernatural materials he had acquired in this trade.
He had long understood how important strength was in the apocalypse, but he had never known Anomalies could be this powerful.
He had seen all the Anomalies the convoy had encountered before. None had been anywhere near this strong.
Although the Anomalies inside the Supply Points sometimes forced the convoy's Sequence Adepts into grueling battles, none had displayed anything as terrifying as this.
That golden zombie had overturned a speeding vehicle outright! And it had suffered no injuries whatsoever.
How terrifying was that?!
After witnessing the Golden Armored Zombie's terrifying power, Zhou Dun became even more determined to grow stronger.
Surviving the apocalypse came down entirely to luck. This time, they had been lucky, and the Golden Armored Zombie had not rammed their vehicle. Next time, they might not be so fortunate.
Clutching the three supernatural materials, Zhou Dun thought to himself, Even if I haven't awakened a Sequence, a sacrificial item is still good.
At the very least, a sacrificial item would give him a chance to fight back against Anomalies.
That would help him keep himself and his two younger sisters alive in the apocalypse.
They were not the only ones. Everyone in the vehicles following behind them was just as terrified.
Just as they thought it was over, a dark shape burst out of the woods beside the road. The sound of fingertips slicing through steel rang out amid the engines' roar.
One of the seven or eight vehicles traveling together immediately began swerving from side to side.
The people in the vehicle behind it could see everything clearly.
An Anomalies that resembled a cat, yet was not quite a cat, crouched on its roof. A pair of snail-like eyestalks protruded from its eyes, and its fur writhed like tentacles. Blood dripped from its mouth as it gnawed on an utterly fresh heart.
Everyone who had been lying on the roof was dead.
The driver seemed to have panicked. The vehicle kept swerving from side to side before crashing into the guardrail and bouncing back, knocking the two vehicles behind it out of control as well.
Within moments, all three vehicles had crashed, and everyone inside them was dead.
The vehicles farther behind had been moving more slowly and maintained some distance. That was the only reason they escaped.
As they passed, they cast trembling glances at the bodies, all killed when their speeding vehicles came to a crashing halt.
The catlike Anomalies ignored them. It was enjoying the hearts of the corpses on the ground.
Not far behind, the Golden Armored Zombie was kissing their necks one by one.
Four vehicles, at least thirty people. That was the tail.
Without them, the Anomalies would have treated Sequence Adepts like Chu Sheng as their only prey.
With them there, the Anomalies had been held up.
Fortunately, those were the only two powerful Anomalies this time. The others had been left behind before they even caught sight of the convoy.
